Will Egypt be able to form a Democracy? Will it plunge into complete chaos? Or will a an Islamic Theocracy emerge?

Polling the Egyptian populace doesn't look promising.

A poll recently showed that the majority approved of Sharia laws.
-
Turkey was able to form a secular government with a large Islamic population, why can't Egypt?
Egyptians are highly educated and the majority seek a secular government.
If they do form a Deomocracy, the million dollar question is will they be a stable democracy, or will they have to be propped up....
But only time can tell that one.

Again, you can have your own opinions; you cannot have your own facts, and those facts contradict what is in bold.

Just because they approve of Sharia doesn't mean they wouldn't RATHER have a secular government.
They have a very VERY western military with good American sentiment. The Muslim Brotherhood stated it wasn't going to have candidates int he Presidential election. (Granted that was 4 days ago or so, and I wouldn't be surprised if it changed.)
60 percent of those polled approve of Sharia law. But just because they approve of it doesn't necessarily mean they all approve of it in all of it's glory.
The United States is going to likely have a strong effect on how things turn. Egypt's military is very... American for lack of a better word.

BOY! I say BOY! You work hard at being deaf, dumb and blind. Turkey was secular for 80 years because someone held a club over their heads. If you would read some news (forgot you're blind)... listen to some news (forgot you're deaf)...for the rest of y'all out there...Turkey is slowly returning to it's Islamic ways. Ottoman Empire here we come by way of the Muslim Brotherhood.

No.
Egypt will not become a democracy.
The British were the only people since the pharoahs who did a decent job of running that country, and the ungrateful Egyptians threw them out.
I predict a long-time military dictatorship.

Optimist.

Its still a good example of potential secular democracy. **** it lasted 80 years so far. Thats a miracle for a nation in that region.

Because they're military is pro western, I think the US can deal with a military dictatorship. But the Egypt-Israeli relations might fall apart.

I rarely agree with Donald Trump, whom I find despicable and decadent, but I'm agreeing with him on one thing.
We're going to see the monolithic Arabic world shatter into small pieces, brother against brother, and under such a scenario, we might see some of these pieces actually aligning with Israel, instead of against.

It lasted because in essence it was a dictatorship, not a democracy.

Naguib and Nasser made that happen.
If the British had been running Egypt since 1952, things would be different, all in good ways.

"Their", not "they're".
-
Kind of...they'll have one democratic election, and install a government that thinks Sharia law is the tits, and that will see no reason why it should ever leave power once installed.

...and we would have traded one pro-Western dictator for an authoritative one that is hostile to anything not Muslim.

Given that the Muslim Brotherhood - the same islamofascist group that SPAWNED al Qaeda - is the largest political faction of a hugely factionalized Egyptian populace, there really is only two possible outcomes to the current situation there:
- [1] The military maintains control indefinitely out of self preservation and Egypt devolves into another military dictatorship; or
- [2] "Free Elections" are held, the muslim brotherhood takes control, cleans the "unfaithful" out of the military and joins hands with Iran as another Dhimmi'Rat created Islamofascist Republic.

Democracy does not work when the people do not want it. Most people in Egypt want Sharia Law (two pollsters, Pew and Zogby independently got similar results http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2672357/posts). The Muslim Brotherhood is a major political force and with Mubarak's exit, will grow even more influential there.

They make way to much money from tourism for that to happen.

I'm cynical about these polls. Does anyone know the sample size from them? It's incredibly easy to lie with statistics.

Dude; they match up with polls run by al Jazeera, damn near to the point. The population at large over there looks with a fond eye to the days when they will be living under sharia law. :thatsright:

Asking if Egypt will become democratic is like asking if a conservative will think logically - the answer is a resounding NO !

Yukon, I don't believe anyone here minds a liberal posting if they're willing to discuss things rationally. Blindly throwing around rhetoric isn't going to get you anywhere. If you're an adult, can you please start acting like it? Thanks.
