Was Jack Kervorkian ahead of his time? Is it the time now? (Serious question)
This topic may squick some people, but my intent in raising it is serious.
There can be no doubt that a part of the financial crisis will be health care, quality of life, and the cost to care for the elderly. These costs will increase rapidly staring in the next year or three as Boomers age. Speaking as a Boomer, there is also the matter of quality of life. As we are able to live longer even while being sicker, what will be the quality of life we'll face in our later years?
When you start to conflate the cost of an aging population with the quality of life issues, it makes sense to let some of us make the choice to check out at a time and place of our own choosing, and to do so with dignity. Maybe now, with the recent mean streak this country's political leadership in both parties has exhibited, the time is right to put such matters to a public hearing.
There has always been a case for enlightened suicide, I think. I am not sure at all how I might make that choice, but, as for so many other things, it ought to be a matter of one's rights to free choice. That's one discussion, and it took place while Dr. Kervorkian was in the news. Today's discussion is about whether or not the political climate is right to open the discussions again.

I was at the pharmacy today and was talking to a woman about DNRs (Do Not Rescusitate). I said I'm getting the letters 'KMN' tatooed on my forehead before I have to go into a hospital.....KILL ME NOW!

Why the hell would we take you to the hospital if we're under orders to terminate you immediately? In fact, why wait for the pain and infirmity of disease to set in? We should just off you right now.
Conservatives believe in families and resisting death at every turn while only liberals get abortions and ask to be snuffed when they are old and infirm.

1950...yeah, that was when old people were allowed to die at home in their own bed. Back then when they got down and couldn't go any more, family took care of them at home. Soon bedsores and pneumonia took its course and they died at home surrounded by family. No suicide doctor was required, no lawyer with paperwork, nothing, just let nature take it course....
BUT THEN
Some bleeding heart liberal came along and said, "Oh how horrible. All these old people are dying...at home...they should be in the hospital where they could get treatment and extend their lives." .....when in reality what they were thinking was, "I'm tired of wiping his butt and changing the bed. Let the government pay someone else to do it....I have a life to live." So along came some evil capitalist that devised a way to relieve the touchy-feely liberals of any pangs of conscience and relieve the touchy-feely liberal of his moral duties to his elders. These places were/are called nursing homes where the touchy-feely liberal can scoot through once a year for 5 minutes or less and say "Please don't unplug momma! I just can't stand the thoughts of parting with her.....and I'll see y'all here again next year....OK?... bye now."

You walk into a hospital with that stenciled to your forehead, you'll be admitted alright. Fortunately for society the hospital you will be admitted to will have padded walls and one 1' square safety glass window. After the staff snaps on your plastic safety helmet, fills your sippy cup with Kool-Aid, and pumps you full of Thorazine, you will be left alone to spend your remaining days licking the window in wonderment.

Here we see a DUmmy promoting the idea of death panels. Something they all derided a year ago. When private insurance paid for elderly care, no one was concerned. But now Stinky will be paying for it, and he's ready to off the elderly using fancy words like "quality of life." Sure he intones patients choosing to die, but you know it will not happen that way. 62 year old grandma checks in for a broken bone, gets an injection, goes into a medically induced coma and dies three days later. That's how it will work.
The consistent thing I see with liberals promoting suicide, its always for other people, never the elite.

In National Socialist Germany, before the Holocaust got started, the elderly were euthanized because they were perceived a burden on the arbitrary concept of 'the common good.' Can we talk moles?
I find the concept interesting. I know little about them. Some, I am led to believe, can have 30 ingredients. I tend to cook far more elemental things, although, from time to time, I like a long slow braise. But with respect to moles, and Mexican cuisine apart from that in our Southwest border area, I am uninitiated.
Who knows moles? Can they be sweet as well as savory?
