A previous owner put that crappy aftermarket tint on my car's windows and I would like to get rid of it. A few car forums recommend soaking the window in ammonia and covering it with plastic sheeting like a garbage bag and letting it soak during the day when it's warm outside. Windex has ammonia in it and I've got plenty of that, but I'm looking for something stronger that will do this more effectively (and quicker).
Do they sell ammonia in bottles at the grocery store the same way they sell vinegar?

You could try an engineering office that has a wide blueprint printer. They usually have some pretty strong amonia in them... and they change it often and would probably be glad to give you the used stuff to get rid of it.

Yep...it's in the cleaning aisle. Should be with the bathroom cleaner stuff.

I'd like to do this as soon as possible. Driving at night is nearly impossible... I can't see shit with this stupid tint. Almost got hit by a pickup because I couldn't see him. Seriously, window tint that dark is illegal for a reason.
I found the amonia. I can try it out at work tomorrow.

HA! The amonia worked perfectly. I wet the window down with half amonia, half water and covered it with a plastic garbage bag for a few hours. It came right off except for a couple small pieces in the corner. Good news, now I don't have a giant blind spot over my right shoulder.
I'll do the rest of the car this weekend. :)

That reminds me, I gotta get mine tinted next week. I drive to and from work in uniform. Don't want everyone and their mother seeing the uniform and following me home or slashing my tires during a stop at Walmart.

I've never had to deal with a car with tinted windows. These were so dark, you might as well not even put windows on the damn car. I couldn't see anything driving home last night... probably would have gotten a ticket, too. I guess I'm okay since I had a cop riding my bumper all the way to work this morning and he didn't do anything.
I don't go for crappy aftermarket accessories and that includes dark window tint. I like my car the way it came from the factory or I wouldn't have bought it.

Do you stop at Walmart on your way home? If so, it will be pretty obvious you are a police officer when you step out of the car. :whatever:
But seriously, that is pretty lame. People I mean, and how they treat the police. Hell, if I saw you driving and you were in uniform, I wouldn't make eye contact. NEVER make eye contact. EVER! :-) I most certainly wouldn't follow you home, or slash your tires, or even beat up your mailbox.

LOL, I KNOW where you work. Keep an eye out for that 0bama sticker on your car..... you never KNOW when it may appear :evillaugh: :-)

What ARE the rules for window tint in Texas, anyways?? MN had some messed up rules.
