I hope to engender some lively conversations here, especially among those who choose the gerbil. :-)
As for me, I love my dogs and my koi give me alot of pleasure watching them swim around the pond, but I love my kitties most for their 'tudes. :whistling:
-
I can't choose between dogs and cats. I love them both. :cheersmate:
-
My dog. Angus is my best friend.
-
I wonder if Ptarmy will vote for wabbits? :whistling:
-
My dog. Angus is my best friend.
Angus is MY best friend also, damn near every weekend when we throw a steak on the grill.
I dunno if I'd name a dog Angus and take him to some overseas countries. :whistling:
BTW, he's a real handsome looking dude. :cheersmate:

I almost put Bunny in the list instead of Rabbit. However, I was afraid SGT SnuggleBunny would think I was singling him out, and maybe sic the ACLU or the SPLC on my ass. :whistling:

I might have voted that way, except for the fact that my stupid dogs love to wake me up around 0300 every morning to go out and pee. I do not have that trouble with the kitties.
That said, I love my dogs, and I miss Dominic something ferocious. :bawl:

I like horses best, but they're expensive to own and a LOT of work.

Hmmm, let me think...What eats pandas?

I am an unabashed bird guy, mostly parrots. We have two at home - a Congo African grey, and a Solomon Islands eclectus - both female.
There is no question that parrots are highly intelligent and social, curious about their environment and how to interact with it.
Mrs E calls me a "bird whisperer" because I understand them and what they're after - especially when they're being a PITA.
Mrs E cannot handle the eclectus safely - the bird is bonded to me and does not tolerate "other women" very well. :rotf: But both birds readily go to me and look to me for that human interaction they're after. Mrs E? Not so much, though the grey tolerates her pretty well.
We also have two dogs, and they are special in their own way - but I'm an unabashed bird guy.

Being an Australian Cattle Dog, I named him after Angus Young. :rocker2:

I am sooooo attached to my four girls....my illegitimate female felines. :-)
I was also quite attached to my Westies - I have had 4, but no dogs for the last 20 years. :( M insists that dogs belong outside, and I insist they belong in the house....at least the kind I would have(Westies or Scotties). Since we cannot come to an agreement, there will be no dogs in the KK household. :(
Got the kids hamsters when the ex took the dogs. Yeah...that was not a real good idea, but it was Christmas..and T wanted them...and since I was feeling guilty enough over getting a divorce....I got two for them from Santa. :banghead: Stinky little suckers that do nothing but eat, sleep and poop a whole bunch. One escaped to the basement and behind the hot water heater....have no clue how it found it's way there. And the other one escaped too...but I think it must have gone outside, since we never found it.
I really detest birds (sorry Euph)...there will never be bird feeders in my yard. Getting one as a pet will never happen.
Have already paid for a half of a quarter horse. I'm sure it was the back end. I won't do that again either. :censored:

here's Mattie, my Aussie (Shepherd) and Randy, the tabby the dog believes will rise up and murder us in our sleep some night!:

I love my cats. Dogs................other peoples but not in this household. They are far too much work.

Time to get an Iron horse.
As to the poll, I opt for Dogs. Indifferent about the rest of the critters.

I know. My dream as a young girl was to own one. Two weeks after I actually got one, I gave up. Of course, I was married with a baby and another on the way, so all that horse shit made me sick, literally. Hubby helped out some, but he did have a job and we had to stable the horse elsewhere.

Dogs do take more work and patience. Cats are mellow guys and gals. And they never stink. :cheersmate:

I hang my head in shame, O Great Queen.
Egbert, shhhhh baby shhh, I know you were in the Potomac for all the tea party rallies in Washington; yes baby I know you also thinned the lib herd when Stewart and his bozos showed up and some of them thought they'd have a little riverside BBQ---they just need to get used to you, is all... Who's a cutey colossal squid?! Who's a cutey colossal squid?! That's right, you are, that's right.
-
Thoth, it's all good.
EGBERT?!!!!!It's not bad enough he looks like that, ya gotta give him a name like that?

I had horses from the time I was 10 until I was 17 and left for the Navy. I liked them. But, like I said, they are expensive to feed and vet bills aren't cheap and lots of grooming a stall cleaning. Then there's loading up bales of hay and stacking them in the barn for winter. I could throw a 40 lb bale 8-10 ft in the air when I was 17 (was stacking them in the barn) and then tote 200 lbs of feed at one time.

Lolz, you need to tell that to our cat Diva. She is rather old............
Her nickname is "Scrubs".

I subtracted my vote,* and went for cats. I truly love both dogs and cats; but, because cats were my first pets as a child and teenager and for no other reason, really, they have a little special place in my heart all their own labeled "cats," whereas dogs and cats have to share the other, main space.
*Look, Eggy, I didn't have one of you as a kid, ok? You're still top cephalapod in my book

I love dogs just as much as cats. I'm too lazy to have one in an apartment with no yard.

Hmm, well, I stand by my statement, in general. Cats do tend to smell better, but of course as they age...or are ill.
Diva said to get back to work cleaning her up. :-)

Trust the dog on this one.
You can always trust a dog and never trust a cat. That's why I luv mah kittehs, they are wicked evil.

I don't think any domestic animal does that. Why do you have a beef with pandas anyway? :???:They can't help being born Chinese.

I'm sending mah kittehs to your house tonight. See how "indifferent" you are then, sir! :rotf:

Oh! Something about the look Macy-face is giving us really tugs at my heart.
Wanna hear a little odd coincidence, Boud? An uncle of mine had a cat named Macy, once.
Boud, about Mrs. Godot--ever hear of menage-a-mullusc?
-
I can't choose between dogs and cats. I love them both. :cheersmate:
I know, I do as well. OTOH, cats cost less money cuz they never need a groomer and they potty train themselves. My daughter's grown mini doxen still pees on her carpet on an almost daily basis. Of course, being in an apartment, she doesn't always take her outdoors, BUT, any time that menace on four legs shows up at my house she takes a dump on my carpets, RIGHT AFTER being brought back inside. Maybe doxens are just overly stupid dogs, cuz I have never encountered another breed like this, refusing to be potty trained. Wasted dog obedience classes, that's for sure.
OK, so I love the little mutt. She's cute, gregarious, loving, but she is going to cost my daughter the money to replace the carpet when she moves out.

I didn't even think of farm animals. :thatsright: OTOH, no one is selecting the gerbil category. Guess I need to track down Richard Gere and have him register here.

Thank you Boudicca! They are both very sweet, although Bailey has always had the proverbial cat attitude. She was a stray who found me, and it has taken 10 years to turn her from wild cat to sweet lap cat :)
Macy is a sweet old lady. She's 15 this year. She's big and lovable. Did you post Jenny's pic? I didn't read the whole thread but am going to now. If not, please do.

I am stoopid when it comes to posting photos. I still get help to download music onto my iPod. :thatsright:
However, I found a website that had a photo that COULD have been my Jenny, complete with the fawn colored markings on the forehead.

I like horses best, but they're expensive to own and a LOT of work.
I voted horses too although I haven't kept any in three years. They are not pets, they are a lifestyle. As a part time farrier I'm around them every other weekend, keeping a small milk run of customers. Never met a horse I didn't like but "horsie people" on the other hand can be a real pain in the ass, hence the part time part.
Surprisingly, being dumped on while shoeing isn't that bad. It's the golden showers I can do without.
-
Beef. It's what's for dinner.
That is all. :-)
-
I voted horse.
Pretty much been around horses all my life. They do, at times, make more sense to me than many people. Like the chores associated with owning them. Raise my own hay and do much of the necessary (and thankfully rare) vet work.

I know snakes gets a bad rap, but many are non venomous AND serve as pest terminators. However, my late beloved Dominic was a terrier who was the bane of any vermin who got into our yard. With, at the time, ten cats in our household, it was Dominic who found and killed no less than eight mice the first summer we had him. He was the mighty hunter. :yahoo:
OTOH, one time one of our cats managed to sneak outside along with the dogs when they went out to do their business, and he came back inside carrying a mouse very gingerly. Set it down on the bedroom floor where it squeaked and otherwise looked scared out of its rodent mind. Well, the rest of the cats came and WATCHED this mouse and did nothing. :fuelfire:Hubby came in and had to dispose of it. Did he kill it? Noooo, he put it back outside. Said if the cats weren't doing their job he wasn't doing it for them. I am certain one of two things happened: either that mouse got the hell out of Dodge while it could OR it was one of Dominic's body count. Ah, Dominic, there will never be another dog like you for me. :cheersmate:
The cats do at least manage to keep our home pest free. They pounce on and kill any stray moth, cockroach, earwig, and the like. They eat anything but a cockroach, so I can always tell when one of those creatures are around. Insert full body shudder here.
My hound dog Casey snatches flies out of the air and disposes of them.
So the Boudicca household does not require the services of a snake. :-)

Sorry, LC, I LOATHE snakes. I've had water moccasins chase me, try to drop on me from trees and even try to get in a boat with me. I'll leave them alone until they try to get on my turf.

I am very glad my cats like the indoor living. I have lost three, two to coyotes (educated guess here) and one got picked up by Animal Control, but someone else wanted him and I said fine, good luck. If a cat wants to be an outdoor cat there's not a heck of alot we can do to dissuade them otherwise.
I do get to see cats kicking ass every day, although it's almost as common for them to pick on one of the dogs. Pretty pathetic that a 12 pound cat can boss around a 60 pound dog. :lmao:
-

Are the grandkids there for the duration? My critters get a breather two weeks out of four. When the grandson isn't around they come out from under the bed. :lmao:Actually it's not so bad-we keep the master bedroom for their use and make the dogs help ride herd on the kid. Since he's two it's like they pay for their liberation from cat tyranny with baby tyranny.
