Funny this, I picture these outraged citizens finding a black bear trying to get into their house and----OPPS---it is not Black Bear season.Can they legally shoot a bear out of season, best call fish and game about that one, as the bear breaks down your door.
Your ceiling begins to leak, not rain water but urine from a big family of coons living under the eves. Are these unwelcome visitors rabid, flea infested or carrying dear ticks.?
Before you can get a business out to your house that deals with coons in the attic, the ceiling caves in and you have a dozen of them running about the house. Your dogs attack and kill a few---you now go to jail for animal cruelty ???
Strange story here ,a friends 16 year old daughter worked late shift at a burger joint. When she took out the trash one night and threw it into the dumpster a Raccoon jumped out and bit her. She grabbed a piece of 2x4 laying on the ground and beat the beast off her. She ran into the restaurant and they called her family to take her to the hospital. Before her family could get to her 3 cops showed up from cell phones by people witnessing her whacking the Coon with the board.
Her parents got there to find their daughter with blood running down her leg and the police wanting to keep questing her as to why she had attacked this coon. She had in fact knocked the coon in the head so hard the animal was dead. The by standers were not too happy about her killing this cute little fella but the father a hunter insisted the body be sent for rabies tests. After 2 hours the child was taken to the hospital with a chunk of her leg missing.
Those that live in the city or even outskirts have no idea what a person has to go through for shots when exposed to rabies, don't have to be bitten, just their saliva say on a small cut on the bottom of someone bare foot will kill them if they walk barefoot over unnoticed saliva in the grass.
This little girl went through hell with the shots, Yes the coon was rabid and she will never forget the by standers that cared more for a small animal then for her life.

I hate raccoons, they are always at my back porch and in stuff. They're the only reason I wish I had a gun, a friend does and he says he'll get them though.
We're lucky because there is no rabies here (known), but it still concerns me.

I shoot every raccoon I see. I had one attack me a few years ago; bagged it and took it to the vet. He sent it to the County, and it had distemper. :sosad: ::)
It came at me from across the neighbor's yard 3 times. :mental: The fourth time was the charm. The damned thing would not go down, even after 3 long rifles to the head. It dropped 5' from my feet. THAT did increase my heart rate! :p I was ready to use the rifle as a club. :cheersmate:

I had a pet raccoon. Best pet evah! She would run her paws through my hair. Even slept on my headboard at night. She would follow me around the front yard when I was gardening. People would slow down and stare :lmao: bet they thought I was about to get my ass reamed by a coon :lmao:

We had raccoons here. I think there were seven or eight of them. I thought they were cute until they would climb up the tree and take a huge dump on the deck every night. We fed them and a couple of them were somewhat tame. ("Inga" warned me against doing that but I didn't think they would be a problem. I found out that I was very wrong!!) I researched about coons and discovered that their poop contained many nasty "bugs". (Bacteria, tapeworms, and other parasites) I started not feeding them, but with all of the outside cats, it was somewhat problematic. I started chasing them off, only to have them return later that night or the next evening. Ultimately, all but two went away. (this was after almost two months of chasing them away) I laid the trap and placed out a bowl of cat food in a safe shooting lane and sat in a deck chair and waited with my .410 lever action shotgun loaded with slugs. As one of them approached, I waited and slowly raised the shotgun to my shoulder. I took careful aim as to insure a quick kill (heart/lung shot) KaPOW!! One coon dead. One shot, one kill. I tried to chase the remaining coon away a little longer, but to no avail. So, I repeated my "hunt". Each of the coons died very quickly and I felt bad about it, but I didn't want the vermin around. I've done the same with some stray tom cats that came around and caused havoc with the other cats. (Our area is a dumping ground for unwanted animals. Not too far from the city, but out in the county.) We also have coyotes that frequent the area and one was so bold to actually come on the deck. I was going to shoot it and kill it, too, but "Inga" chased it off before I got the chance.
IMO, deer are just large, edible vermin with antlers (sometimes). All too often Hollywood and the city folk have attempted to anthropomorphize wild animals. Many people think they're all cute, cuddly and harmless until they get attacked by them.
As far as the dog/ rabbit thing, I think whoever called the police is a retard. Dogs are going to do what they are going to do. Unless they are VERY WELL trained, they're going to chase down & kill rabbits, birds, and other critters. I had a Springer Spaniel at one point. Even while she was on a tie out cable, she still managed to kill a few birds. It was kind of neat watching her stalk her prey.

You Thor are right on the money.
Dogs, Cats and some wild birds can be trained to live with Humans, even some rabbits can be litter box trained as ferrets and to my great surprise the seeing eye ponies that are becoming popular today, they will alert he owner when they need to defecate outdoors.
However almost every other animal that is born in the wild stays wild even when bottle feed by humans.
A bit of a problem are the Wolfe hi breed that usually has to be 3/4 dog to be house trained. Bob Cat kittens that some misguided people try to tame are a nightmare, I did know a woman that found a baby skunk and raised it and had the scent glands removed, it was litter trained but, it got out of the house one day and with no defence but its claws was eaten all up by a neighbors dog.
We had a pack of Chipmonks that lived in a wood pile that I feed peanuts to, after awhile they would swarm me running up my back to grab a peanut on the top of my head. Funny little fellows, I had them all named and loved to have company come over, sit on the deck drink a cold beer and watch their antics.
One day new neighbors moved in that toughed nothing of allowing their 10 year old son to run the neighborhood with a air beebee gun.
Enough said on that subject, I will never feed any kind of wild animal again.
