DUmmy Taverner starts a thread to suck up to Skimmer and his flunkies, then it moves on to speculation about a DUmp sale:

Democratic Underground will NEVER, EVER sell out
I know this because I know the integrity of Skinner, Elad and EarlG - and these patriots will never sell this site to a megacorp looking to squelch dissent
Here's to the three! SKINNER! ELAD! EARL G!
A toast to the most!

The DUmp is not for sale at any price!

3. There has to be some way to send them beer....
I'm all for the idea of beer for DU founders!
Suck up, suck up, suck up.

6. Yes but do three people have a price?
That complicates things, as does Democracy
The DUmp is not for sale at any price!

8. After what the founders did to realign DU with the changing political winds
Shows democracy in action
Selling to AOL, Knight Ridder or the Heritage Foundation is not democracy in action
Hence my statement
Hmmm... maybe the homo purge was getting the place tidied up for a sale. Skimmer has to be green with envy for the nutcase Arianna. Look for the DUmp to be renamed "Skimmer Post".

13. Democratic Underground LLC is a business.
I don't know what they'll do. Neither do you.
In fact, I've been in business long enough to know that they don't even know. A business reacts to changing business conditions.
I appreciate the entity they've created, but it's theirs to do with as they see fit.
I think I have integrity too but if someone waved $315 million in front of me to purchase a business I built...
I would bet you could wave something less than $315 million in front of DUmmy lumberjack_jeff and get everything he owns, including a kidney, a lung, and at least one cornea.
DUmmy Lucian eases into comic territory now, with an initial assessment of what a bid for the DUmp might be:

16. If the price was right they would.
Everybody sells out eventually.
If I owned this website, and someone offered me $100+ million for it, I'd take it, and I'm sure you would too.

18. Not always
Sometimes, people make an ethical decision, despite it being very good financially.
Yes, I'd crumble like a card on a bed of rocks.
You might too.
But I don't see the three unanimously agreeing to sell to AOL, Haliburton or KBR...
There is little danger of AOL, Halliburton, or KBR buying the DUmp, even though it's a goldmine. More likely the DUmp would be absorbed by a megacorp like Raw Story or truthout.

20. If the price was right, they would.
You can't tell me three guys wouldn't accept, let's say, $250 million for this site.
Money trumps ethics and values.
That $250 mill could probably be bargained down to, say, a thousand bucks. More important though, these DUmmies are going to really piss off Skimmer if they keep implying he'd need approval from his flunkies Lord Marblehead and The Enigmatic Elad. If some fool offered to buy the DUmp for a few grand, the entire fortune would go straight into Skimmer's pocket, and his flunkies would go back to peddling weed.

AOL stock sheds $315M -- HuffPo price tag
You pay for what you get.
Arianna Huffington and Ken Lerer, co-founders of the Huffington Post, are said to be walking away with a combined $80 million to $100 million from an original $2 million per person investment -- but so far AOL stockholders aren't seeing that kind of return.
Since Feb. 1, the price of AOL shares has dropped from $23.85 to $20.89 at yesterday's close.
With 106.7 million shares outstanding, that means AOL has shed $315 million in value over the last five trading days -- which happens to be exactly the same price AOL agreed to pay to acquire HuffPo.

Imagine how much the stock would drop for some company that bought the DUmp.

I can't wait until we get frank's opine on this one! For the DUmmies to think Skins wouldn't sell out is just ****in' hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine? He wouldn't have to lie to 'em any more about his fundraisers! That in itself is enough reason to let it go!
He'd sell them off like a two dollar pair of shoes at the Dollar Store!!!!!
They are pretty self appointed important, aren't they?
Maybe he could sell 'em off one at a time!
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Now that's funny, I don't care who ya are! If you don't think that's funny, get the hell outa here!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!

Well, I dunno.
My fellow alum does have a wistful attachment to the primitives, much like a 19th-century Presbyterian missionary in the South Seas.
But on the other hand, the primitives have taken their toll on Skins; ten years ago he was a chipper, confident, mellow, laid back, nonchalant sort of guy, in the pink of both physical and mental health, but now he looks nothing more like an embalmed Nancy Reagan.
I think if he got an offer for more than $10 for the real-estate, he should take it.
My fellow alum's done more than his share for the cause of liberalism, and could ride off in the sunset with the assurance that he tackled a big job, and did the very best, and more, of what he could possibly do; I suggest the Dems re-name their annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner the Jefferson-Jackson-Skins Dinner.

Crumble like a card on a bed of rocks?
That asskissery in the opening salvos was embarrassing. That asshat is 40 years old with 2 kids (he volunteered that yesterday). He acts like someone in the vicinity of 13. When he lost his job, he promptly got drunk, posting at the dump the whole time. Looks like he stayed that way.
-
Umm, why this talk of selling? did I miss something?

Probably not, madam, you didn't miss a thing.
It's just that since the Puffington Post was sold to America OnLine, the primitives are just fantasizing what Skins's island would bring, if put up for sale.
By the way, if one checks the stock market, share prices in AOL fell $315 million the other day.....right after AOL had paid $315 million for the Puffington Post. It's exact, down to the last cent.
-
I would offer skinner $5 and a bottle of Mad Dog.

add morphine addict to the list of his attributes . . . what a winner! :whatever:

I am stepping down on Morphine today. This sucks.
It's either kick the pain meds, or kick the cannabis.
Since cannabis has done more for me than ANY opiate has, and the fact that I can grow my own Opium if I have to - I am quitting the Morphine
OMG, I want to die right now. I want to curl into a dark corner, take out a gun and shoot myself in the head. I won't. Trust me on that one.
I'm just trying to explain how much pain I'm in.
I used to be on 90mg of Morphine a day. Today I am only on 60mg.
This ****ing sucks.
In two weeks I'll be on 30mg hopefully.
Did I mention this sucks?
-

Actually, it wouldn't do any good to make an offer for Skins's island to my fellow alum.
One has to approach the actual owner, in this case the Democrat Leadership Council.
-
Newsweak went for a single dollar.
Hufpo goes for $315 million and AOL the next day drops by $320 million. Indicating that the market thinks that hufpo is worth MINUS 5 million dollars (on a neutral day).
I think the DUmp could fetch something between these two numbers.

Speaking of the dlc I thought they were on the ropes so to speak? One wonders how that changes the value of Dummy Land, you know the esoteric value of "good will" and all that.

The DUmmies were cheering the disbanding of the DLC a couple of days ago.
-
Umm, why this talk of selling? did I miss something?
It's only talk of selling, with a handful of DUmbasses dreaming that their presence in the loony bin somehow gives it value. There is no talk, zero, of buying.
-
The DUmmies were cheering the disbanding of the DLC a couple of days ago.
Man, that's news to me. I must've missed it.
Without the Democrat Leadership Council, which consists of establishment professional Democrats concerned for the well-being and future of the Democrat party, who's going to take care of things now?
One can't trust the primitives to.
-

How the heck did I miss that?
BTW, I'll chip in if any of you want to pool our money and buy DU.

Do ya have change for a quarter?
-
Do ya have change for a quarter?
I was thinking of buying it and changing it into a Goth webcam porn site.
It is due for an upgrade in class and social usefullness. :rotf:
-
The DLC is no more. It was announced they were out of money. Maybe Skinner can share some of his with them, or perhaps that is why he's been doing all of those fundraisers.
I was glad to do my part to give Skinner $20 under one of my moles' names.
-
So if the founding group of the DUmp is defunct then by default the DUmmies ARE now the DLC right? :fuelfire:

Oh geez, I think yer right!!! Well now we know who has all the weight to sling around, don't we? And I do mean that literally!
Has Skins made a comment about his benefactors goin' "tits up"?

Tut, tut, AlloRus, hasn't Toots told you the politically correct term is Tango Umbrella? :hammer: :-)
ETA: a few more moles an we can organize a hostile takeover. :rotf:
-

Whoa. Wait. What?
You gave twenty bucks to my fellow alum?
Twenty bucks?
The usual standard is five dollars, and I've heard one can remain in Skins's good graces even for a paltry one dollar.
You should've given the other fifteen to a charity or a panhandler or something madam.
-
The DLC is no more.
That's bad news for the Dems and by extension, the primitives.
Without the bosses, the pros, the lifers, the experts, running the Democrat party, the next election for the other side's going to be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Coach, I'd cut her some slack. After all, she was just trying to see your fellow alum be able to feed his . . . family vacation fund.

As long as you keep the furries out of it it'll make money. Then again anything relating to porn rakes in bucks.

"Toots" never served and neither did I. We both have reletives who have, but it was a "fer piece back", as she would say. I have to speak in language she understands. Otherwise, I run the risk of her not understandin' what I meant, and ya just don't want to make "Toots" mad! She can hit quarters from around 30 feet with the magnum, so I try to make myself clear 100% of the time! hehehehehehehe!!!

Zeit, I always remembered it as "Tango Uniform." :???: :???: :???:

I'll stick with "tits up", keeps me safe and since "Toots" is well endowed in that particular department, there's no misunderstanding!

Skinner wont sell ? Pfft - for the right price, he will dump the island as a pimp would dump a dead hooker in a landfill - without a second thought, or a twinge of moral clarity. Done and done....

The Heritage Foundation? Yeah like that would ever happen.
