The show Glee -
This might be a weird post - but hey - who doesn't want to share a good thing.
I'm not sure if this show has been discussed here or not - but when I first heard about it, I thought, ugh, that sounds like a dumb show. But then my 28 yr. old daughter and all her friends (who rarely watch TV) all got addicted to it and made it a point to get together on the night of the week it is shown.
One of the channels this weekend ran a marathon of Glee - so I watched like 5 or 6 shows in a row. I was either nearly in tears or was in tears due to the shear beauty of the writing and the message of the show. I don't know who these marvelously talented writers are, but they have really brought alot of issues to light - and in such a mesmerizing way. Every young person (and older people too) should be watching it.
The story revolves around the only "out" gay guy at the school and all the bullying he has to endure. He makes very profound statements regarding religion and why should he bother when they teach their followers to hate him. The cheerleading coach has a downs syndrom sister that she dearly loves and who remembers how cruel the kids were to her growing up - so she too has disavowed religion. But its all so much more than this. Somehow you get to feel their pain and understand how they're hurt so needlessly. There is a student in a wheelchair, asian students, black students, jocks, cheerleaders, and the last show I watched they brought on a very heavy set girl to join them. The shows obvious message is "total and complete acceptance" of everyone - no matter what color, what nationality, disabled, fat, WHAT EVER. It is such a great example of acceptance - and I truly hope every high school kid in America will tune into this show. AND - the talen - My GOD - the talent - these young kids are just extraordinary. Even without the profoundly deep story lines - the music is totally worth it.
So, if you were like me and thought it would be dumb - I hope you'll give it a chance. And, if you have teenagers at home - definitely tune in with them.
That is all.

4. A lot of issues.
But, of course, poverty will be ignored.
Geeee, what a surprise. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/images/grr.gif:grr:)
What would it take for us to be remembered? What?

8. Sometimes not everything is about you Bobbo
Nor should it be. You are sooooo negative and may be even a little selfcentered, if you'd like to think about that.
There are way too many young kids out there killing themselves because they are gay, or fat, or bullied and picked on. Maybe this show could just be about them. And none of these kids strike me as rich - middle class at best.
Maybe you could sit down and write a great show about poverty that would be "must see" TV.

53. LOL
What you trying to do Bobbo - Publicly try to "shame" me on DU? HA. Actually, my compassion knows no bounds - it is just not limited to poverty. I care about these kids killing themselves too. It is possible to care about numerous issues and people all at the same time. You would do well to expand your own mind and world.

No, it's a DUmbass. It's fitting into the mold quite well. It might be the D Student of DUmmies, but it's a DUmmie nonetheless.

If you can't see that poverty is ignored, then it has to be pointed out to you over and over and over until you get it.

64. Oh FFS. Until DU is 24/7 365,000 threads all about YOU it's not good enough!
Until every show on TV is about YOU, it's not good enough.
Until the President's every single speech is about YOU, it's not good enough.
Until every single outreach effort is directed at YOU, it's not good enough.
Until every celebrity makes YOU their raison d'etre, it's not good enough.
Until every single PSA is about YOU, it's not good enough.
Every billboard..
Every milk-carton..
Every subject, in every school, in every grade..
Every mother's bedtime story to every child..
Unless it's ALL ABOUT YOU - it's worthless, right?

19. Why don't you let them know?
I live in a small, rural community where I used to teach. I am beginning to think I should get back into teaching here.
Homelessness reaches us, too. Like all schools, ours has to face the issue of homeless students.
We used to have a residential hotel in our community. It housed some local people who were older or disabled and did not have enough pension to support themselves. Many of them were subsidized by the community and the township. There was also a waiting list for homeless individuals and families. A lot of people passed through town and found jobs and more permanent housing. But we often had students who were here for only a short time. They were not always accepted or treated well by the other students.
Unfortunately, the place closed. They had never met their expenses, but it seems that they owed thousands of dollars to the city for utilities. Finally, the town shut off their utilities. Now the place just sits there like a big eyesore. And if you think anyone has the money or inclination to do anything about it, think again. Another business here has just closed. People are moving. The tax base is eroding. Homes are being foreclosed. No one has anything.
I have a feeling that Glee could do something with this issue. After all, they do quite a bit with the theme of acceptance. Maybe one of their celebrity guest stars could tackle a role as a homeless student. I'll bet the show could raise awareness and maybe some money and resources for the homeless, especially those with families.

22. You really think they are going to hear ONE PERSON? The reason I keep bringing this up is not to
be put in the role of the poster child.. the only one who is supposed to take action.
ALL of you need to do exactly what you said.
I mean, how difficult is it? Would you please find the address, or the email or the phone, and post it and encourage people to do as you say, and contact them about this?
Yes, teachers take the brunt of the problems of homeless students! THEY are the ones on the front lines, and this show would be a natural for addressing that.
Did you know that there are 1.65 MILLION homeless school children? Not infants and toddler, and not those who have left high school but still teens.... 1.65 million children registered in school who are HOMELESS.
We should be ashamed, yet what is done is vilifying the messenger.

39. Look at the posts below and use the Google.
Apparently the Glee cast and writers ARE using their fame to help others.
Personally, I have given so much to others over the course of a lifetime that I have had to step back. I was suffering from anxiety. I still am.
Like you, I took on some of thankless jobs. I received more criticism than assistance. I was kicked in the teeth one times too many. If I ever, ever start helping others again, there will be firmer boundaries. Be careful, bobbo. You are sounding so angry that you may be driving away the very people who want to be generous. I don't blame you, but take care of YOU first.

41. Yes, we understand that poverty is a huge issue but WHY does THIS show HAVE to take up poverty?
This show is entertainment. Its to entertain and possibly enlighten oneself. But is it Glee's responsibility to actively embrace poverty as its newest cause? If some social issue is deemed extremely important, is it all tv show's responsibility to embrace that social issue?
Its a shame how by forcing poverty down everyone's throats, you have diluted your message to the point of hostility from other readers.
Are you personally allowed to put aside your feelings about poverty to give an opinion of Glee without resorting to using poverty as a crutch to nay or yay the show?
Silly DUmmie, logic is for conservatives.

Christ, I think Bobo could take a kid at Disneyland and have them wanting to suck start a shotgun within the hour.

While I appreciate your understanding, I hope that you understand that you have just now illustrated how people will critize relentlessly all the characteristics of others, even though those criticisms conflict with each other and make it impossible to utter a sound without criticism.

Yep, that's Pammie Dawson, using her new user name "demtenjeep" to brag about her new 2010 vehicle. Suck it, DUmp!
Apparently she got a special dispensation to get a new user name with her "greenbriar" post total after her Top DUmmy fame caused hostility at the DUmp.
Good to see that her inability to properly punctuate or capitalize is unchanged. She's a gifted teacher. The taxpayers and children of Wichita are so lucky.

77. Bypassing your personal attacks, what I am encouraging you to see is that POVERTY is NOT an issue
which is brought to light the way other issues are.
While you choose to castigate me for mentioning this, many other DUers have said the same thing, so many of us see the reality that Poverty is ignored.
Rather than blast me for your own personal reasons, why not do a bit of looking around and noticing that POVERTY is ignored, then figure out ways you can, rather than blasting me for bringing something uncomfortable to your attention, contribute to bringing this issue to light.
Doing so is in your best interest for at least two reasons....
1. All of you claim that you want more votes for Democrats. By being more active in putting poverty in the public view, you will gain the goodwill of poor and homeless people, which will translate into more of their votes.
2. The anger is building, just as it did in Egypt. Ignoring it until it explodes will make things even more uncomfortable for you.
So, you see, you don't even have to have any personal compassion for people who are ALWAYS ignored... just looking our for your OWN interests will suffice.
Now it's threatening them. :lmao:

Bobo the Hobo has her whining about poverty down to a fine art. One of her co dummies keeps asking her about her situation and she is evading their questions. I am figuring she must be using a library computer for internet access, but I thought libraries had rules about that kinda stuff

Any conversation involving Bobbo and Pam Dawson is priceless. They are both so self-involved. Can you imagine a real life conversation between the two of them?
Pam Dawson: Hi Bobbo.
Bobbo: I AM HOMELESS! I LIVE IN POVERTY!
Pam Dawson: I have a new 2010 Jeep.
Bobbo: I have an old Buick. It's where I live because I AM HOMELESS!
Pam Dawson: Take a vacation. I have been on a lot of cruises. They are fun!
Bobbo: Are you not paying attention to me? Only selfish people take vacations. I AM HOMELESS! I live in a Buick.
Pam Dawson: Well, Bobbo, what have you done to take care of your problem?
Bobbo: I protest in front of the library. It's more convenient because that way I can step inside and post on DU.
Pam Dawson: Well, gotta go. More chemotherapy for me for my life-threatening illness.
-
Wow! Bobes will be furious. Obviously the mods at the DUmp don't care about poverty. And she is homeless.
Pam Dawson is way too stupid to care one way or the other about swirling down the memory hole.
(I wonder why the dreaded cbayer didn't lock this thread?)
-
If Bobo the Hobo would get off her lazy ass and open a Cafe Press store, she could be rich in no time and devote all her resources to poverty.
I'm beginning to think she is Skinner's mom.
-
I suspect one day Bobo's access to the DUmp will be derailed when the Admins get tired of those that pay for running the site calling for their own revolution and pull their funding.
-
Never watched Glee. I hate high school drama and always did. As for bobbo, even DU is fed up so I am not surprised.
DUmmies seem to forget we and our children went to high school at one time or another. Was there bullying? Yeah, I suppose, but there were far more of us stickin' up for those that were less fortunate or more oddball than ourselves, than the other way around. To portray this some kind of enlightening drama is not only dishonest, it's downright propaganda!
That show is ridiculous! Every single victim portrayed by the left manages to have a meltdown on a regular basis, if the OP is to be believed, I wouldn't know, I don't watch that shit! High school dilemmas just don't interest me in the least!
The fact that Bobo has lasted this long is a distinction of the left! Even though they know she is a self aggrandizing pain in the ass, they still put up with her! Typical libtard philosophy!
Forget the fact she needs to help herself, make her a victim so you can feel better about yourself rather than tell her to try and do somethin' to improve her lot in life without a handout!
Bobo is living proof liberalism is a mental disease!
-
The DUmp reminds me of Glee, they both use auto-tune, and suck.
