I did my taxes last night, and it's a good thing I was using name brand software,

because otherwise I wouldn't believe the size of my refund. Three kids in college gave us a hell of a tax credit for tuition!

THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA!

I don't even wanna respond to this crap.  :whatever: New bonfire.

If that software is stolen, there's a place on the net to report it.

You know he didn't buy it and make a capitalist richer.

I dunno, Turbo Tax sends me a new copy every year and I've never given 'em a dime. Never used 'em either! I pay a guy to do that shit!

The tuition tax credit has been in place for at least ten years, maybe longer, if your income is low enough....whoa, maybe it's Bush's fault. It may have flown under the DUmp democrats' radar, though, because you're disqualified by a felony drug conviction.

More Porkulus bullshit.  Same as the old Hope tax credit but with higher income limits.  Then again, it's not like the DUmmies are paying for it, now are they?  Oh, and this year we're looking at forking over $18 BILLION for this.

Then again, if the kids got Pell Grants, scholarships or grants, or mommy and daddy are fronting the money from a 529, they have to have at least $4K over that in order to claim the credit.

I still don't understand people who think it is such a great thing to get a tax "refund".  It is your money that the government kept from you and is generously paying you back interest free.

0bama/Bush/Clinton, doesn't matter who the President is, DUmmy.  Your employer is withholding too much of your money.

Reminds me of a commercial;

"It's my money and I need it NOW!"

I think it's for J. G. Wentworth but it works for U. S. Treasury as well.

Personally, I have always been dead set against tax software and efiling. 1) Why do I want to make it easier for the IRS to ferret out errors and cross check? Any crosschecking on a paper filing has to be done by someone actually examining the provenance of claims made for any particular line and keying that info into a computer; efiling allows software to do that for them, 2) I WANT the IRS' job to be more difficult; the more paper they have to handle, the less time they have to **** with us, and as the current level of taxation is flat-out theft and punitive confiscation, anyway, I consider it, not just in my benefit to file on paper, but, to borrow a certain someone's phrase, "a moral imperative." MORE than a moral imperative--I'd say it's every American's DUTY as an American to make life as difficult as possible for the IRS.

I'm not in such a hurry to get my refund that I'd cede 1 and 2, not for a refund a couple of months earlier.

Not that I have anything against the IRS as people--I've spoken to a few on the phone and they're really mainly nice people. But their mission stinks--at least at these insane percentages--and should be thwarted as much as possible.

I've spent countless work hours on the phone with folks from the IRS.  You are correct, for the most part they are very cordial, courteous and helpful people doing an absolutely thankless job.

I agree on your first point as well in principle.

They'll just outsource the majority of it to foreign companies to do the drudgework like they've been doing since 2008.  The IRS is not going to let themselves be inconvenienced by non-electronic filing... they'll just pack them all into a box and ship it off to India.  Meanwhile, the bureaucrats will continue to make dealing with the IRS as arduous and difficult as possible.

Because I am about as good with our money as a pot smoking DUmmie with a cheetos habit I view our tax return as a interest free bonus every year.

Shoot. Can't a guy have a few illusions, Chris?

And, may I add: Darn.

I Efile every year so if there's a mistake on how much I owe them, it gives me an opportunity to come up with the cash before April 15th.

Good for you, DUmmie.  And because I popped a kid out, I get a $500 "tax credit".  Can't wait to send her to college and get rich off of my tax return.  ::)

I was gonna say, does $500 even cover diapers in the first year?  And $2500 for college?  Not even clown college is that cheap.

$500 doesn't even cover a month of daycare.

Hell my sister, and her husband, neither of whom work, get a fat "tax refund" every year.
They live off my folks and get medicaid, meanwhile I work and have crappy insurance and don't get squat back from the IRS.
Seems backwards if you ask me.

I feel for ya Freep! I've never got one of those "Earned" Income Credits! Just who the hell came up with that name anyway? It's exactly the opposite! The more I "earned", the less I got from the feds in credits!

I'm convinced that politicians think that Orwell's 198 was a textbook. Seems every thing the Govt does is the opposite of the name.

Bouncy. Even a DUmbass doesn't need software to fill out a 1040-EZ.

We are discusing DUmmies here.  The hog probably bought the software from Best Buy for $59.95 not realizing the online version is FREE until you pay $9.95 to file.  A $50 bargain see?

And why pay that much?  Hell, I think my Tax Cut software was $30 and included free e-filing.  Yes, state is extra, but it's nice living in a state that doesn't HAVE an income tax.
