Could we start a DU expat commune in, say, Vancouver?
Just reading the latest post titles here has me ready to pack up my dogs cats and raincoat and head north.
The Rule of the Rich, Michele Bachmann's "Hero of Hydrocephalus" award, Rick Scott (former head of the "health care" outfit guilty of the biggest Medicare fraud in history) actually the ELECTED governor of Florida....I could go on and on.
Vancouver has nice water views and health care.
Sigh.

3. One simple request of anyone who leaves the country for selfish reasons...
Edited on Mon Feb-07-11 10:58 AM by slackmaster
...Please don't come back, ever.

4. That's a good message, Slack.
You probably should send it to all the "American" corporations who've walked away with our jobs and our money.
Talk to the politicians, environmentalists and unions that drove them out first.

5. We need you here for your votes, and for the taxes and insurance premiums you pay

If you leave to save your own bacon, you'd be hurting everyone who stays, and you wouldn't deserve to live here ever again.
Is slackmaster being sarcastic? DUmmies don't pay taxes.

20. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from going to another country for what they believe...

...would be a better life.
Go ahead and move to Canada if you think that will be best for your family.
Just don't come back when things get better here (and I do believe they will). The new, improved USA will happen in spite of your lack of support. Anyone who doesn't stay and fight will not deserve the fruits of the victory.
slackmaster must believe that conservatives will regain power and keep it for some time to come.

22. My bacon is in reasonable shape. It doesn't need to be saved.
It's my conscience that hurts, you see. My beloved country can't seem to muster enough energy to pay to educate its children, comfort the poor, care for the sick. Even our President, of whom I am very proud, doesn't seem to be able to stand up effectively to the cult of Every Man for Himself. (No, make that Every RICH Man for Himself.) I guess the final straw for me today was reading the post heading that said Obama was planning to cut major urban programs for the poor.
I've worked as a volunteer in politics most of my life, and worked very hard at it, by the way. And I am happy and proud to be able to pay taxes. I would happily pay more if it could insure that everyone here gets a decent chance at a decent life.
Put very simply, I don't want to be a rich person in a poor country.
And as to those who say we must stay and fight....much as I sympathize with that sentiment, I keep thinking about how we could barely manage a chorus of lifted eyebrows when the Presidential election was flat out stolen in 2000.
WTF?

27. You'd tap into a health care system that Canadians have been paying into their whole lives
Then bail out when it's convenient for you.
Hell, they probably haven't paid into our system either. Let them screw some socialist country out of their money.

Canada has restrictions on who they let in, you must be employable in a field that needs those employees.

I think most of them are planning on sneaking across the border and growing pot.

Lets send them to Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and see how they like it.

Canada is jonesing big time for Greyhounds full of DUmp deadbeats. If they go to Canada, DUmmies would fit in much better on the other coast, with the Trailer Park Boys in Halifax.

They would love the NDP government we have going on here. FYI they'd never fit in on the east coat, the only chance they'd have would be in one of the big cities in central Canada.

Well, I think of the DUmp every time I watch Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles. Their lives revolve around alcohol, marijuana, and grifting, just like the DUmmies.

I guess you're right, were just not all like that:) I've met the three of them.

Good luck in Canada. :)

Bon voyage, forget to write!

There's lots of vacant land in the great northwest of Canada. They'll never know you're there.
-
You have to have a minimum of $10,000 per person in the bank to emigrate to Canada unless you have a job lined up already. Good luck with that DUmmies.

$10,000 Canadian, or real money?
:-)

Bailing out is not the answer, however stayng the course and try to make your country a better one is. The grass is not always greener on the other side

But, in line with the idea of making the country better, I am 100% in favor of them leaving. No sane and non-cannibalistic country would take them, of course...

Thanks to ObeyWon, the two are closer than ever.

Yeah I struggle from time to time..., but I went to school and tried to do something with my life. Yeah working at Walmart isn't the best of jobs, but It is something. I have a profit sharing, 401k, medical insurance, three weeks vacation and I am working on my business. But dang, I refuse to ask for a handout!!!! I will sacrafice other things first!!

My jaw dropped at this comment! We spend more than any other country on schoolin' our young skulls full 'o mush, and still the little bastards can't learn a damn thing other than how to put condoms on cucumbers! Well that, and it's okay for johnny to have 2 dads or 2 moms.
Mostly because we pay our teachers more than any other country and can't get rid of the slackers due to union pricks, teaching Marx is not exactly the way to get ahead in a capitalist society.

Not only that, but the DUmb**** leaving would make the grass greener on our side.

When did I hear this before? Hmmm, I say 2002. Slackmaster, where the **** were you when one DUmmie said he was moving to Venezuela because of Bush?

Back in the 70's the Canadian dollar was worth more than the U.S. dollar.
$1 Canadian was worth $1.25 U.S.....they were buying the hell out of US heavy equipment and farm machinery.

Ah, but still the Canucks come here to buy high end goods and take them back home. The reason, taxes! It's cheaper to pay the duty goin' across the border than it is to buy it in their home town.
For instance, sheet rock runs around $7 here. North of the border the price is $15! I think they can take as much as $2000 over duty free, every trip! So by the time ya figure gas money, as long as ya don't live in the Tundra, you're way ahead!
Same goes for Doors, Windows, Hardwood Flooring, etc, etc, etc........ Most Canucks I see load their cars, trucks, and trailers to the ceiling before they head back home! Yeah that universal healthcare they got is free!
( wink, wink )
