Title: The DU is not a political website.
Post by: Godot showed up on February 03, 2011, 07:21:26 PM
Why would you say I write that? Not, I mean, what is my reason for posting. That's the same as for all posting; vanity.

I mean, what's my justification for make an assertion seemingly so contrary to reality?

I think I may call this the rhetorical question game. Or I might eat some fish; I'd say it's a coin toss between those two right now.

I like cheese.

Do you like cheese?

Have some cheese.

Here, I'll cut the cheese for you.

...

Where did you go?

To sleep. I like leaving these things overnight. But thanks for the cheese, went well with the fish.

Nothing profound here, I guess. I was just thinking that, primarily, what the DU and sites like it really are, are websites for venting hatred. It’s a site that pretty much hangs out a shingle reading “give me your hate-filled, your vicious, your misanthropes.” Politics is just the freight truck, the vehicle carrying the real payload; the cargo is hatred. They—DU and similar sites—are the Id of the Internet.

You hit the bull's-eye inside the bull's-eye, sir.

Well thank you, Frank. Last night it seemed like some sort of unusual insight; this morning I wondered if awareness of this wasn't fairly common (and I wasn't drunk, which is usually what causes late-night "great-ideas" to occur, such as, for example, making beer pie).

I started out thinking about the unbelievable venomous hatred of the Left, and how they're incapable of expressing a political opinion without that hatred--that's nothing new to us. I was thinking, "isn't it strange that they seem to never be able to express an opinion without spitting hate," or at least there are so few posts of that kind (unburdened by hate) that we might as well say "never." The more I thought about it, the more odd that fact seemed to me. Then something gelled in my head (possibly my brain), and it occurred to me that giving expression to the hatred is the raison d'etre for their little online clubs, not the politics. Had they not been immersed in politics, they're the kind of people who would have found some other social outlet to shout their hatred of some enemy or other.

My sense is that DU is full of histrionic, narcissistic, and paranoid people there. Histrionic in the sense that they are dramatic and want to be center of attention. Narcissistic because everything revolves around them and feel entitled. Paranoid because they feel they are being persecuted/

Except, can they be considered paranoid if we really do want to round up the lot of 'em and curb stomp their heads into gutter goo?  :fuelfire:

I would be more than happy if they all just left the country and moved to one of their so-called socialist paradises .

Except: even they can't find a socialist worker's paradise that wants to accept another boatload or six of lazy, shiftless deadbeats who believe that the state owes them a living.

I wish they would move to North Korea. They want their jobs? They can work in the gulag. They want 'free' healthcare? They can have eugenics and forced abortions. They need to see the results of collectivism.

I need the recipe for beer pie.

I have a bunch of cowboys coming to stay at my place during a trade show and that sounds like something they'd like besides my biscuits and sausage gravy and green chili on everything.

Just because they're out to get you doesn't mean you're not paranoid.

You nailed it.  Everybody on DU has such a persecution complex.  That is the only reasoning I can find for the way they compare themselves to every downtrodden person in the world, equating their comfortable, American life with shelter, TV, and computer to whatever atrocities others are facing.
