....for finding the humor in something I really hope isn't as bad as we're hearing out here in La-La Land.
We'll survive--we always manage to.
Other than that, I'm not too worried. If power goes out, we have a kerosene heater and our hot water is all natural gas. We have lots of food on hand, and Mr Smith made sure to stock up on donuts and other snacks last night. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: We're in good shape. :-)
I know I talk a lot of shit about living out here in the Land Of Silk & Money, but I have a tremendous amount of love and affection for all of you here, and am especially worried about what I'm seeing on the various weather channels.
Please know that despite my bullshit about going to the beach to eat fish tacos, I'll most likely be glued to the TV, praying that all of you in the path of this storm know what needs to be done, and have either already done it, are doing it, or are ready to do it!!! When WGN America refers to this as a "life-threatening" blizzard, I tend to worry about the people I truly care about, online or not.
I know it's an incredibly selfish thing to ask, but for the sake of those of us who care deeply for you (even you bastards that insist upon BS'ing me for the ****ing crocs), try to keep us up to date, ok?
Maybe a storm sticky is in order? Just a thought.
I truly love you people here, and I just wanted to let you all know that. :cheersmate: :yahoo:
May I ask where you are, Mrs. Smith?Hmmmm...I answered this once, and it seems to have disappeared? So if this is a repeat, sorry.
HNC, I'm touched by your OP. As you can see by TVDOC's post, you're not dealing with a buncha DUmmies here. If there was any gang that knew how to batten down the hatches, provide for ourselves, and look out for the neighbors, it's us.
:cheersmate:
Is the real HNC bound, gagged and thrown in a closet somewhere?? Who ARE you? :-)
All quiet on the eastern front here (so far).
Gassed up the Jeep last night and got an extra 10 gallons on top of what I already had (full snowblower, full generator, and one 5-gallon can.) Called a service to plow out the driveway and shovel the roof on Thursday morning after the storm blows through. I just flat-out don't have time right now.
Welcome to New England.
Keep safe, Sparky -- from your description, it sounds like a rough few days for you.
And Hollywood, sorry for the snark -- can't stop myself sometimes. All the ice/snow is tracking north of where I am; we're just going to get majorly soaked by rain. It's nice to know someone worries though . . . :blowkiss:

Stealing the Snowtorious BIG.
And lucky bastard that I am, they pulled the plug on doing any work today, so I'm sitting in my jammies paying bills while the Round 2 starts.
Stealing the Snowtorious BIG.Oh that's good Sparky, have a good day resting!!

I just heard on the news that Oncor is doing 15 minute rolling blackouts here in DFW to save electric. Apparently we are using too much. I don't know how that will affect me as I have electricity through my city. I don't "think" we purchase from Oncor.
You may not "purchase" from ONCOR, but they provide all of the electricity for DFW area and even up here in the "Texas tundra".
Good for you Sparky!
Checking in from NorthCountryLand...it's snowing and blowing and about 10 degrees. Got into work OK, and no power outages. So far so good. We're getting wallopped today with the volume.
NHSparky, I had a good mind to give you a slap after all that whining on page 1 or so. Now you're in your pajamas. I didn't slap ya, though. Enjoy your snow day!
Rev, about HNC's crocs....you have to go the Cryin in my Beer forum and read his Christmas story.
Correction. 5 minutes after I posted that I got the, "Where the **** are YOU?" phonecall.
2 hours to get to work. And worst is yet to come.
FML.
From NW NJ, ice everywhere, still sleeting, hoping it changes to rain this afternoon to melt some of it because it's supposed to go down to the teens tonight. We're going to try to get out of the house this afternoon, I'm going crazy and everything is clean in the house.
You better hope it doesn't, because then you'll have some serious ice issues.
UGH! I was hoping for the opposite, everything melting.
Oh Poor Sparky! Does that suck or what?
njpines, your BIL is close enough to me that we share a congresscritter. :-)
You wanna hear about suck? The minute I posted "so far so good" up there, my husband called. Our furnace has shit the bed.

according to weather Bug it's 7.3 degrees with a wind chill of -8 outside. I just cleaned a little of the driveway and the sidewalk to the house before I came back in. we got maybe 5-6 inches of snow here but it looks like more because of the snowdrifts. No work yesterday or today so I'm stuck here at home. Guess i'm going to have to stay in and watch movies all day.
Mike: You kids these days. I remember when I was in college, I trudged through snow up to my waist to get to class. The winds were blowin something fierce, too. :-)
I was just thinking back to my early childhood. Back then around here in wintertime folks heated basically one large room, the kitchen. No heat in the bedrooms. The bathroom if you were getting a bath and the living room on Sunday if special company was coming.
How many live and could live like that now? With the "cost of energy neccessarily skyrocketing" (Obama) we may have to return to those days.
The house I lived in for 9 years of my childhood, has a gas heating stove situated between the kitchen and living room. The bedrooms were cold in the winter, and blankets were piled high enough to almost immobilize a kid.
This may not look like a helluva lot, but it took me FOUR FREAKIN' HOURS to clean this up.

Mrs. E did this at the front door:

Another shot of the driveway area. Yes, that's the trash can out at the gravel road.

The drifts were about 4 feet. The regular snowfall I measured on the average at 16".
Never, in my life, have I had to clean up this much snow at one time.
My back is thoroughly, completely, totally pissed off at me.
Wow. It looks like like the road has been plowed. Ours still haven't been and we live in the city.
Mike: Are you a Sammie?
Euph....poor back!! get out the ice and the heating pad. You know....we don't get drifts on this side of the state, unlike over there in the Jackson area that does... :whistling:

Ummm, NOW you know how I felt living up in Minnesnowta!! I already had a bad back. Euph, don't you think it's time for a snowblower, two stage??Your back will thank you!! ;)
I've been helping neighbors dig cars out of their own DRIVEWAY for Pete's sake!
