In what has to be the ultimate irony or simply bad timing, the United States is in the midst of revisiting the creation of an internet kill switch to defend against cyber warfare just as Egypt on Friday moved to block internet access to stem free speech
The legislation, which is being led by US Republican Senator Susan Collins, is ostensibly designed to create presidential powers to shut off the internet to protect against significant cyber crime threats to national security.

BULLSHIT it's about "defending against cyber attacks." It's about control of the American people more than anything, and it sucks.
I'm now a bit more firm in my belief that we are headed towards Egypt like protests if things don't change very freaking rapidly. This administration is out of control, and increasing amounts of citizens are coming to that realization.

I hope your constituents never forget, bitch.

Her constituents are the stupidest state in America. I hear tell they have to be coached to breathe regularly.
By the way, the Federal Gub'mint has had it's meat hooks into the telecommunications companies literally for decades now. When one of those intelligence agencies is given a warrant to wiretap a given phone line, they don't send Sooper Spy techinicians to the local trunk station to install the wire tap; they hit a switch, and every damned thing they want to hear starts pouring into their tape recorders. Same thing applies to the "kill switch": If you don't know in your gut that the circuit to kill a free innerwebz isn't already in place, then you must be an escapee from Maine.
It's mis-direction people. It's "get 'em worked up over what the right hand is doing, so they don't notice what the left hand is up to".

To watch this administration want the MB in Egypt and yet take away our freedoms here says everything doesn't it? :fuelfire:

Speaks almost as many volumes as the Internal Revenue Code.

Before I look or learn any more about this bill....in other words while I'm totally ignorant, I'm going to say this....I bet this bill isn't 2,600 pages long....probably more like one sentence...."The president shall have sole authority to blah-blah-blah"...End of dicussion.

Apparently killing the cell phones and internet is a 'Violation of basic human rights' when Mu-barak does it, and a necessary measure when Barak-O wants to do it.

Of course it is. That should have worded in the ballot sheet in '08 when everyone was going out to vote. "If something appears wrong or indecent, it probably is. Unless Barack H. Obama does it..."
