Rep. Moran (D-VA): GOP won in 2010 because 'a lot of people' don't want black president

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/virginiapolitics/2011/...

Moran said that Democratic losses in the 2010 elections ...

... happened because of the same reason the Civil War happened in the United States. The Civil War happened because the Southern states, particularly the slaveholding states, didn't want to see a president who was opposed to slavery. In this case a lot of people in this country, I believe, don't want to be governed by an African American, particularly one who is inclusive, who is liberal, who wants to spend money on everyone and who wants to reach out to include everyone in our society. That's a basic philosophical clash.

The full interview with Alhurra, which appeared to take place after Tuesday night's State of the Union address, can be viewed here, with the passage in question coming after the 3-minute mark. As Rubin points out in her post, the "slaveholding states" Moran references include his home state of Virginia.

"With nearly 1,000 identified hate groups in the U.S. and recent studies showing a majority of Americans believe racism is still widespread against African Americans, it is no secret that our country has and continues to struggle with racial equality," said Moran spokeswoman Anne Hughes in a statement. "The Congressman was expressing his frustration with this problem and the role it played in the last election."

"Rather than ignore this issue or pretend it isn't there, the Congressman believes we are better off discussing it in order to overcome it," Hughes said. "Rep. Moran believes that despite these pervasive problems, President Obama has the ability to make this a more unified, diverse, and stronger country."

Maybe the guy in that famous 'moran" picture was referring to this guy.

1. While there is a lot of truth in that statement, that isn't the reason for the losses

low-voter turnout was the reason. Period. If the younger bunch that were so successful in getting Obama elected in the first place had turned out, this discussion would be moot, though still true.

3. So much easier to explain losses

If you can blame it on some external factor.

You avoid doing uncomfortable things like examining what could WE have done, had not done, or have done differently to change the outcome.

President Obama didn't change from 2008 to 2010, so just maybe it was something to do with the party.

Nah it couldn't be. It just has to be that teabaggers hate black people.  :whatever:

5. This makes no sense.

If the majority didn't want a black president, the majority would not have elected a black president.

Shhhh don't ruin a perfectly good talking point the left has used since well forever.

People are getting tired of hearing about how we hate obama because of his race. Race has nothing to do with it. I would have voted for Condi if she ran. I dislike obama because he's a socialist, heathen democrat.

If Herman Cain were to get the nomination we would see racism from the left like you wouldn't believe.

Surprisingly, the thread at the DUmp is not jumping on Moran's bandwagon.  They think it's stupid, and make democrats look stupid.  That being the case, this congresscreep should seriously consider withdrawing this remark and pleading temporary insanity.

Yep. Funny. Obama's only black side is from his Kenyan father, who had NO legitimate gripes with white Americans. What the hell is Obama pissed about? None of his family were ever slaves, yet he seems to think he can play the victim card here, although he grew up in an upper middle class family and attended some of the most expensive schools in the country. He also seems to detest this country and everything it stands for.

Cain, however, was raised by parents who used to be sharecroppers. He attended Morehouse College, probably the most recognized black college in the country. His grandparents were slaves. Yet, while understanding the dark spots of our history, he has nothing negative to say about this country and speaks about it's exceptionalism on a daily basis. A man who could have legitimate gripes has made it and loves this country deeply.

Funny how that works out. Then again, one is a freedom-loving Capitalist conservative while the other is a left-wing Marxist.

Oh, and unlike white, guilt-ridden moonbat liberals, I'll be voting for Herman Cain because he's qualified and has an impeccable resume and track record of building businesses. Obama had absolutely NO qualifications other than just meeting the basic requirements to run for President...which is still up in the air. The ONLY reason to vote for Obama was the color of his skin. He was the least qualified candidate on a Democratic ticket that included Hillary Clinton.

Indeed. Obama isn't even "Black"; having a White parent means the child cannot possibly be Black.

But without that race card to play, how would he get anywhere? If he were a White liberal, there wouldn't be anything specially marketable about him. The Left can't get anywhere without race-hustling, and Obama gives them a fine opportunity to play the race card and use it to push their agenda by pushing someone who touts it.

Every time he refers to himself as "Black" or someone else does it, a lie is being told because half of his heritage is being deliberately ignored (usually by those who think Whites are devils). I thought we on the Right were the purveyors of the "Big Lie" strategy ::)

Mr Cain worked hard and made something of himself. He didn't choose the path of many black leaders like Sharpton, Jackson, etc who made fortunes blaming whitey for everything. He has done more for his race then all of the so called civil rights advocates combined, he showed everyone that a black man can make it. If he was a hero to the black community instead of Jackson and Sharpton are, I believe race relations would be different. But, it's easier to sit around crying that you are oppressed and wait to have your hand filled than it is to go out and work hard.
I believe MLK would be ashamed of where some of his people are today, and proud of people like Cain.

This was also stated by that moron Moran:

Quote
"... because we have been guided by a Republican administration who believes in the simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it and they have an antipathy towards means of redistributing wealth."

You just have to change "wealth" to "stuff". DUmbass democrats know they'll never have wealth, but they sure do want our stuff.

Also, the Republicans picked up seven House seats in New York.  I didn't realize that we were Southern all of a sudden! :o ::)

One only has to travel into the inner city to find the answer. Liberal Demons have done there best to keep blacks on the plantation. They care no more for them than they do any other minority. Their voting block means nothing more to them than power! Power to keep them where they are!!!!!!!!!

Maybe if this self appointed asshole put a little time educating Gangstas that preying on society is not the way to long life and the American Dream, instead of race baiting, he would have somethin' to say. You want to hear a racist? Talk to the Crips, Bloods, and MS 13!

I've dealt with these dregs of society on a first name basis! The racial slurs outa their mouths have nothin' on the Caucasian populace!

Amen. I too have dealt with them, lived near them, worked with them (yes, some few actually have jobs), observed them over the course of many years. If you want racism, go no further than inner-city America and if you want terrorism and hate groups, look no further than Black and Hispanic street gangs.

The Surenos, the Trinitarios, the Bloods, the Crips, the Latin Kings - they and their ilk prove where hate in America really is to be found.

Genetically speaking, he isn't even half black -- IIRC he is something like 6.25% Black - the remainder being Arabic and White.

Can't speak for anyone else, but this person (me) is sick and nigh on weary to death of racism being thrown up as an excuse for criticism of this execrable and piss poor excuse of a President.  Libs never had any trouble comparing Bush to a monkey but you can't even say Mechelle has a huge ****ing ass without it being a racist comment.
I haven't figured out who I hate the worst:  stupid "well meaning" retards who still get tears in their eyes over the first black President, cynical manipulators of those same retards, or Obama himself along with his minions.

Living here in the pacific NW I always thought they were a myth even though plenty of people around me thought it was real. Then I saw Michelle and realized I'd been wrong all these years. Next thing you know we'll find out Xenu really did send thetans to infest our bodies and if we don't embrace Scientology we're doomed.
