Suburban district here is considering freezing salaries for veteran teachers (10 years plus) so they can pay new teachers more.

Good grief.

No link. Just saw this on my local news.

This is getting insane folks.

6. So teachers with one year making $30K

need a raise more than teachers with 10 years making $40K??

The more they play these games with our salaries, the more the seniority system makes sense.

I'll bet there is a larger pay difference than $10 for those ten years. Also the younger teachers may have families to support while those old crones like p2blk are dried and withered and should just retire, anyway.

So quit.  I'm sure someone with your talents will find a wildly successful career in the dynamic fast-food industry, or perhaps scraping the spunk off the walls of a porno theater booth.

I gotta assume she's full of shit, it must be a temporary pay freeze.  If that were truly the case, I'd change careers in a hurry.

You don't become the #1 DUmmy without lying a lot.

She needs to retire and make way for one of those 100,000+ new teachers Obama was talking about, but I have a feeling the current crop of liberals will fight tooth and nail before that happens.  They gots to get theirs, you know.

Well, even though the Die alte Sau is assured a comfortable pension and can start collecting it tomorrow if she wanted, she's hanging on because she's worried about having to shell out a few bucks for medical coverage.

In the meantime, Kansas City has all these younger teachers, many with families, working in a convenience store because old biddies like her won't get out, making room for them.

She says "suburban," so it's reasonable to assume the Die alte Sau, who teaches "urban," isn't going to suffer.

Yeah, and then they have the temerity, the gall, the chutzpah, to bitch about petroleum and pharmaceutical corporations getting all they can, too.

It's the same thing.

I don't know what she's bitchin' about. I'm sure she had cobwebs between her legs when Nixon froze everyone's wages back in the 70's. And we sure as hell weren't payin' 40+ thou a year for a nine month job back then!

The only ones who will suffer are the kids she's supposed to teach.

Well, if you went into teaching to make money, you have serious problems.  I mean, it isn't like you could have missed the fact that teachers have been underpaid for a looong time.

Starting pay in Kansas is 31K for new teachers (before taxes). I know because I am finally retiring and going back to teach those little ****heads.

Didn't Pammy admit to making over 60k?  I'm sure Anne is making a comparable, if not higher, salary.

Well, $31K isn't a huge salary, but it's entry level, and in most districts, it also includes an outstanding benefits package.

Until fairly recently, teaching school was always considered to be a second income for traditional families. In my memory, elementary and high school teachers were almost without exception either married women, or very young women just out of college.

Women's groups and unions have worked hard to change all that, and the huge success of modern public education is evidence of their efforts.

I am working on my introductory speech.

"Good Morning. My name is Mr. Dutch and I am your new teacher. For the last 28 years I have been blowing #@%$ up and killing people in defense of this great country. I have served in five conflicts across the globe, been shot and blown up by people who want to kill you because we live in a free society. I will now focus all that training, experience, and modivation on teaching you.

What are your questions at this time?"

I guess I am confused as those new teachers are not tenured, and as such are not voting members of the union -- the union is agreeing to this?

Does anyone know what part of Kansas she is from so I can find an article on this?   I am betting that the district wants to restructure their pay scales, and this halfwit doesn't have a clue as to what that means so she just makes stuff up.

The Die alte Sau teaches for the Kansas City, Missouri, public school system.

The Die alte Sau however actually lives on the Kansas side of Kansas City, one of the suburbs.

The article obviously pertains to a non-Kansas City school, but one of the suburbs.

I have a degree in education. My dad, wise man that he is, constantly told me I'd never make enough to pay for my education. He was right, but I was all, "Oh dad, I'm not doing it for the money, blah, blah, blah." I made it 5 years and realized that money actually did make me happy.  My starting salary was 21k in 1991, and I think I would've capped out at 40k. I got tired of not having a lot of money to play with, so I went a different direction. I'm so glad I did.  Even though I think my degree is a joke, my work as a teacher actually helped me in various careers where I had to patiently talk to clients and explain things in ways that made sense.

I was lucky. I taught in a middle/upper middle class neighborhood in TX where parents expected their kids to behave and make good grades. They weren't perfect, but they were pretty good kids and I had fun for awhile.  I'm sure a few teachers were part of a union, but that wasn't a popular topic, and I don't know anyone personally who was a member. I would've left sooner if I had to put up with that.

What's confusing me is why she's upset.  I thought, being a DUmmie, especially Top Dog, she'd be happy to sacrifice for the good of the all.  DUmmies are always talking about how anyone who bitches about the deficit and taxes should be giving their refunds back.  Why doesn't p2 feel all warm and fuzzy inside that she's helping out her fellows and giving them their chance?
Could it be that she's a selfish bitch?  My goodness!

I did too.

That's what truly shocks me, that the Die alte Sau isn't happy about giving up the surplus she has, so as to ameliorate the deficits of others.

Isn't that what being a Democrat, liberal, and primitive is supposed to mean, for the greater good?

Just think of it as a tax or redistribution of wealth. Hell libs advocate taking from one person and giving to another and here we have this happening and she is bitching. Quit being so damn greedy and allow the new teachers to have higher pay and level the playing field.

Good luck Dutch.  A lot of guys get out and go through state programs designed to supply inner city schools with teachers, then they find out just how ****ed up the families are and how corrupt the school district is and chuck it after a year in disgust.

If you can do it in a way that lets you pick a district that isn't populated by kids too stupid and unmotivated to qualify for gang membership, and that isn't blowing all the tax money on two extended "Study" or "Training" trips abroad for the $250K+ Superintendant and his inner circle every year with district-owned cars for all of them, you'll have a much better experience with it.

Or find a decent private/Catholic (if you're inclined) school. The pay is worse, but the kids are easier because the parents are motivated.

Let's tear into this. $30k for about seven months of work. Great health care insurance with no premium participation or deductibles.  In kalifornia the teachers do not pay into SS or Medicare.

Amortize for typical work year:
$30k*12/7=$51.4K if working the whole year.

Amortize for not paying FICA and Medicare (7.65% and 1.45% respectively):
$51.4K/.91=$56.48K
*Also these people do not help keep the all important SS and medicare solvent...what greedy bastards.

Cadillac health care insurance adder to private industry:
Estimate that at $400/month = $4800/year I think this is a severe underestimation.

Total amortized compensation: $61.3K

That is one hell of a starting salary in the private sector.

Remember that when a teacher cries about how little they make. They chose to have more free time versus more hours and more money.
