Black Mother Jailed For Sending Kids to White School District
24 Jan 2011
by James Quin
An Ohio mother of two was sentenced to 10 days in jail and placed on three years probation after sending her kids to a school district in which they did not live. Kelly Williams-Bolar was sentenced by Judge Patricia Cosgrove on Tuesday and will begin serving her sentence immediately.
The jury deliberated for seven hours and the courtroom was packed as the sentence was handed down. She was convicted on two counts of tampering with court records after registering her two girls as living with Williams Bolar’s father when they actually lived with her. The family lived in the housing projects in Akron, Ohio, and the father’s address was in nearby Copley Township.
Additionally, Williams-Bolar’s father, Edward L. Williams, was charged with a fourth-degree felony of grand theft, in which he and his daughter are charged with defrauding the school system for two years of educational services for their girls. The court determined that sending their children to the wrong school was worth $30,500 in tuition.
.......it’s interesting how courts find it convenient to make someone into an example when they happen to be poor and black. I’d love to see how they prosecute wealthy white women who commit the same offense. Oh, I forgot: Most wealthy white women don’t have to send their kids to the schools located near the projects.

The thread is rather large.
In it is much hand-wringing about how the mother would never have suffered this fate if she were white/rich and to a certain extent I'm inclined to agree.
Several DUmabsses note that her crime, which they--and I--claim is not really a crime, centers on depriving the school district wherein the children do reside of roughly $7,500 per year per child. Again, I am inclined to agree.
So what is missing?
Isn't it curious that none of the usual suspects who bang the gong against vouchers or firing bad teachers has reared their ugly--and I do mean ugly--heads.
The fact is the black kids were relegated to a shit school. They have been segregated and given no standards. The adults above them get no more money than the white school but they do Dog only knows what with it. Graft, corruption and incompetence seem to abound. That mother had every right to take whatever matters were required to ensure the well-being of her children. She is entitled to every action she took.
But those who demand their power do so at the expense of that family's misery. They simply will not tolerate runaway slaves.

I don't know about the jail time, but I would all be for the parent(s) to pay back the $30,500 for the kids tuition.
-
Bobo is what's missing from this thread. That money could have gone for a new Buick with leather. Did Pam or number one teacher DUmmie show up?
-

Pay it back to whom?
The public school system?
The money was going to the public school system it just went to a different school.
I would hasten to add, any law that traps children in a failing school--particularly on the basis of race--is odious and ought to be ignored. I know the school's student body reflects its immediate neighborhood but it would be naive to claim laws, social programs etc weren't crafted to create impose a soft segregation in the name of the "black community".
To my mind, this woman ought to be the next Rosa Parks if she could get proper reporting on her plight; although her oppressors would more likely be teacher's unions, guilty white liberals and persons of similar melanin content who understand where their checks come from every month.
-
I would be willing to bet the "Tuition" costs at the innercity school is much more than the "white" school. Either way this story pisses me off. Instead of embracing the thug innercity crime and poverty lifestyle she wants something better for her kids. It is a load of crap to kick her in the head for having a sense of pride and wanting her kids to grow up educated.
-

Sure, that and the court costs. Did the kids take a school bus to school? Who paid for the pick up and drop off the kids? (The gas and the school bus driver) Did they buy lunches at the school? (I'm not being facious, just need more details. If money was spent to educate her kids, someone paid for it. The mother didn't. The parents of the other children in that school and community did I assume.)
She did lie about their residency.

The father in this bull shit must be a real piece of work! If I had a kid goin' to a school in the projects, I'd swear on a stack of Bibles they lived with me at least half the time! Both parents must be a product of the same school they tried keepin' their kids out of! It's not that hard to cover your tracks in this situation.
I'm sure the DUmmies are all up in arms about Rahm Emanuelle having to put up with much the same rules though, wanna bet?
I don't know about the jail time, but I would all be for the parent(s) to pay back the $30,500 for the kids tuition.
BS for that one True! What exactly was the school out, if they weren't in their school what do the parents owe? The other school got the money? Is that your reasoning? Well, Damn it, the other school educated them! The one in the projects did zilch! What exactly are they owed?????????

They were in the PROJECTS! Anyone you know pay property taxes in the PROJECTS????? If the father owns property in his neighborhood, he's payin' for other kids to go to school! Again I ask, what was the original school out? Sure as hell don't sound like momma was payin property tax! We were payin' it! And if they weren't there, we weren't payin'!!!!!!
-
She did lie about their residency.
And my father lied about his age to join the navy during the Korean War.
She should have had a voucher to send her kids to whatever school she felt was best.
Yet the unions demand the money for themselves and the liberals create "black communities" to maintain their captive constituencies.

I have no problem at all with her wanting a better education and life for her child. What parent wouldn't? But, she got caught.

How compassionate of you! What would you do for your children in this circumstance? What risk would you take?

Like I said Rus, what parent wouldn't want the best for their child. I would as well. I'm not slamming the woman, she got caught.
-
I think parent's should be able to chose which school district they want their children to attend without being penalized/jailed.
The court took this woman away from her children for 10 days because she wanted to give them a better education. ::)
Let me know how taking a mother away from her children for a week and a half is a GOOD thing?
-

You also said she should pay a school district for her kids not gettin' an education in that school! Sorry, if the kids weren't there, she don't owe them a Damn dime! This is nothin' more than a district wantin sumpin' for nuttin'!
They are gettin' subsidized/student! What have they lost? You have to lose somethin' before you can claim a loss!
-

My bad! I just re-read that sentence in the OP Rus. I don't think she should pay. I thought that they ordered her to pay the school that the kids went to, not the school that they were supposed to go to. I misread it. :hammer: :hammer:
I apologize guys. My bad. She should not pay. That's not right at all. BS away. lol

Yep. If she'd figured out some way to send them to a Christian school, their opinions would be exactly opposite.
Personally, I am all for people being allowed to send their kids wherever, especially if they don't expect the school to come get them every day, but take them to school or to a regular bus stop. I think it's crazy to file a law suit over it, especially when a family member actually does live there.

All is forgiven, I gave ya a ^5 to balance it out. We all misread occasionally. Specially me after a few "Johnny's"! heh!
Couldn't get my mind around why a school who didn't have the expense of education is still owed for children that weren't even ****in' there! It is the Projects, however, and they believe they should get a hand out no matter what! Any bets on how much of that money ever makes it to the kids?
-
You know what I don't understand about this is that Dad lives in that district. If he pays rents, he is technically paying taxes for that school district. This really makes no sense at all. There has to be a great deal of information missing here.

It's not the childrens' father, it's their grandfather, their mother's dad.
-
Ah ok -- read it quickly. I see now.
-
I am surprised this is posted at DU. I think people should have a right to go whatever school they want, not where they are zoned at.
-

I missed that, but what exactly difference does that make? Ya mean to tell me they can't stay at grampa's durin' the week in order to go school and make it legal? I'll bet gramps is payin' property taxes!
-
How compassionate of you! What would you do for your children in this circumstance? What risk would you take?
I paid $2K per kid (25 years ago) to keep mine out of SD 189. And that was after deductions for 'volunteering' to be Bingo treasurer. All public schools in that city were shit and still are. (They've had sewage flooding them for years!) I don't blame her one bit. But Jeez Louise- it ain't rocket science.

I would think a simple custody agreement would have made it all legal. From the sounds of their neighborhood, they should all have lived with Grandpa.

I love it when guilt ridden white liberals have to confront the oppressed minority they like to use....when that minority invades their fantasy world. Maybe some day they will realize that when some of us with experience in these matters say something they don't want to hear, we're being truthful, not racist.
-
So, is it a white school? Or a school in an upper scale suburban area? Are there any blacks already in the school? Having lived in the South, and from those suburban areas, I've yet to see an "all-white" school".
BTW, I'm all for vouchers and competition-based schooling as seen in many European countries. Not all kids are cut out for Trig, etc., and we need to start capitalizing on what kids are good at. We have two magnet High Schools in Augusta, Ga., A.R. Johnson and Davison Fine Arts. Both are some of the best in the state and both are competition-based and diverse in the inner-city. They're making hovercrafts for science fairs while other students are making play-dough volcanoes.

Lots of different viewpoints coming out of this story to me. Yeah, you feel for her and what she wanted to do for her kids, but she lied and did break the law in order to do it, so no excuse for doing that. You also have to wonder just how many times she's voted for the very party and people who not only relegated her to where she is for their own political purposes, but created the laws that keep her from sending her kids to a better school. Will this cause her to wake up to who's really oppressing her and those like her, and why? Probably not.

It is actually like you say. The problem is, because of her masters in the DemoncRat party, what chance has she of gettin' the hell out any more? On the other hand, it looks to me like she found a way for her children to have an escape route. No way can I fault her for that! I know where the blame should be laid, problem is, given that the schools that she more than likely dropped out of, likely didn't educate her on the long term repercussions of DemoncRat hand outs, she's locked into a never ending hell.
I salute her for finally realizing, from either bein' a criminal or a victim, she understands now her life is not the answer and tried her damnedest to give her kids a chance to break the chain!
She needs a damn medal, not 10 days in jail and $30,500 fine!!!!!!!!!! Ya think the criminal justice system ever considered the kids in this money grab?
ETA:
Tell me what options she really had! The system is rigged in these blue controlled hell holes and if ya try to buck the system, this is what happens! Would ya rather she committed armed robbery in order to afford a private school?
-

Agreed about public school, but fraud is fraud and the law in OH on schools is the same as it was when I lived there.

Again, I sympathize her situation, but she went about it the wrong way. I feel the same way about someone who steals from a grocery store because their kids are hungry. I'm sorry their kids are hungry, but stealing is still immoral. I understand why people from Mexico want to cross the border to get paid better in America, but it's still entering the country illegally. Let's just hope something good can eventually come out of this, because the solutions of the left will not make it better.

The accounting in the whole thing is somewhat questionable. While no doubt accountants can make the case for it, it's just logically unappealing to say that it could cost one district 30 grand to provide the kids from another district education, and also cost the district they were supposed to go to another 30 grand ($7,500 X 2 kids X 2 years) for them NOT to go to the school they were supposed to attend, all at the same time.

Thanks bud. :cheersmate: I read it quickly and jumped the shark, so to speak. :hammer: :hammer:
No way should the mother pay, in my opinion.

American Apartheid

Even though American schools were desegregated following Brown v. Board doesn’t mean there isn’t still widespread apartheid cloaked in classicism, though its roots are still racial.
She was convicted on two counts of tampering with court records after registering her two girls as living with Williams Bolar's father when they actually lived with her. The family lived in the housing projects in Akron, Ohio, and the father's address was in nearby Copley Township.
Williams-Bolar is poor, black, and she was attempting to send her children to a better school outside of the district where they live. It’s not as though she resided near a great school, and chose to forgo that option out of some kind of stubbornness or hatred for the law. Quite literally, if she wanted to send her kids to a good school, she had no other options available. It was stay trapped, or escape, and she chose to escape.

And yet, while the left demands redistribution schemes to lock-in black constituencies and "black studies" programs to reinforce stereotypes of both whites and blacks and investing in the "black community" whatever that means somehow the hands-off/self-reliance philosophy of conservativism will be blamed.

Not it's not ya stooooopid DUmb****! Nowadays it's more geographical than anything else!!!!!
Your messiah, the community organizer, ACORN, HUD and the DemoncRat party have segregated the population with free or subsidized housing! Ya go to school in your neighborhood! This woman just got ****ed tryin' to get her kids out of the hell you people created for her!
What the **** did ya think was goin' to happen when you created a welfare dependency voter base, where no one gives a rusty **** about their neighborhood because they don't have to ****in' pay for it????
