Khephra the legend.
Today's DU Homepage has screen captures of the DU homepage from the last 10 years---from 2001 to today.

I clicked on Jan. 24th, 2002 page and immediately let out a chuckle...for there, on the right side of the page, under Late Breaking News, was Khephra in all his glory.

The Man was a posting machine.... and DU will never ever have one like him again.

I remember looking at his post counts and marveling at how many posts he had compared to everyone else. ---it was like everyone had 1000---he had 20,000....I'm convinced that if he were alive today he's be closing in on a million.

AND---he didn't just post crap--- he posted interesting and important stories from every source on the nets.... so you know the dude had to read what he posted before he posted.

If there was a nomination for the Top DU'er for the 10th anniversary--- I'd have to nominate Khep... for sure.

Fixed.

What a sad life.  The dude died on one of his keyboards, weighing in around 500 lbs.  His mother found him, for goodness sake.  He needed to get a life, and obviously didn't.

EDIT - Just to add, some of you weren't around when Khephra was posting.  The dude had something like four computers going at once, posting "Latest Breaking News" from the usual suspects....Raw Story/Truthout/TalkingPointsMemo/AfterDowningStreet/MediaMatters.  He was the Kpete of DU at the time.  And all of this made him a "legend" at a website?  You people sure pick strange heroes. :mental:

Oh yeah, he was a "legend" at the time I joined.  Whatever that means.  :-)

I remember when that happened.

It was right in the middle of one of P-J Comix's most-excellent DUmmie FUnnies; whatever the topic had been, it had been of great interest, but then whoops, in the middle of it the primitive keeled over, and his mother, reaching over the body, informed Skins's island (as her son's account was still logged on, and it was obvious what he had been doing) before she did anything else.

Everybody on the DUmmie FUnnies immediately forgot all about the DUmmie FUnnies and commented on that instead.

In the hours and days to follow, Fat Che then launched a "movement" to get primitives to attend the memorial service (in Indianapolis, if I recall correctly), probably hoping to make some bucks hiring a charter bus and charging primitives windfall fares.  My fellow alum Skins got involved, and there were some primitives who actually went to Indianapolis for the farewell.

And this is his mom posting under his account, presumably with the body still at the keyboard..

Khephra's Funeral Arrangements
Scott Anthony Lowery, 37, Indianapolis, Indiana died Saturday, Janurary 8, 2005. He is survived by his mother Nancy, uncles, Michael and Tad, aunts, Mary and Mona, cousins, Elizabeth, Amanda, and Sarah. He graduated from North Central High School, Indianapolis and attended I.U.P.U.I. While at I.U. he was senior editor for the writer's magazine, Genusis, Spring of 2000.

He was a well-loved and respected contributor to The Democraticunder-
ground, a web site, posting late breaking news for them. He belonged to Americans United. He was an advocate for Howard Dean and was passionate about politics. The Broadripple Masonic Lodge will do a memorial for him on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 3p.m. Hopefully his friends that can make it will say something about their friend. Calling will be from 1-3p.m at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Home, 325 Carmel Drive, Carmel, Indiana.

At this time, we still don't know the cause of death. We may know the preliminary cause in a few days, but the final determination may take weeks, if not months.

The one thing I told hippiechick is that Scott always said he wanted to be rich enough some day to have a hugh pyramid (sp)and his body placed in it. Well, he never got rich. But I was thinking if any of you are good at woodworking you could make a small one with the
symbol that he loved on it to place his ashes. That would surely give him a laugh. As he told all of you, he loved Egyptology! I would love seeing him surrounded by something he love,...as he lived.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I have sat at his computer for the three nights reading each and every one of your posts. I hope he knows how he was loved and respected. That would mean more to him than I could tell you.

Thanks.

Heck, all these years Systematic Chaos has been lookin' for a job, when there's been a long term vacancy right at Skin's Island of Misfits.  He'd could slide into Kephra's spot no problem, although Jeannette might cavil at swapping out her luxurious Vegas digs for a Cheetos infested basement.  Could be worse though; Stinky's basement is currently occupied.

Oh, by the way, for those who really knew and missed Kephra, believe it or not, I do feel sorry for your pain.  All politics aside, losing a loved one is never easy and of course I speak from experience.

OK, back to the political arena. :hammer:

The deal is, Khephra was a little bit more intelligent than the gigantic primitive, more intellectual.

Such as a primitive can be.

I repeat, such as a primitive can be.

Khephra had some education in him, the gigantic primitive barely got out of high school, if that.

To Khephra, "current events" were things such as the Wars for the Liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq; for the gigantic primitive, "current events" is whether or not the refrigerator's empty.

Both were, are, losers, but one was smarter than the other.

Fixed that for ya Ralph! All he did all day and all night was post at the DUmp! It finally ended up bein' toxic I guess, as one mornin' his Ma found him dead as a doornail with his fingers still on the keys! I found it amazing Ma removed his fingers long enough to post to the DUmp that he had kicked the bucket before takin' care of his corpse!

I can't IMAGINE a non-DUmmie mom being able to post over the dead body of her child. :puke:  If it really happened that way, I can't begin to comprehend the WHY of it all.

I'm thinking DU probably contributed to his death.  Sitting so long at his computer probably caused blood clots in the legs or whatever it is they warn people about sitting on long plane flights.

That's probably exactly what happened.

Unemployed, sitting in basement all day (he really was; this is no joke) subsisting on social security disability, and grossly overweight.

Wasn't the DUmp still "on screen" when she walked in and posted she had just found him and he had no pulse?

IIRC, a clot is what killed him.  It's mind boggling that a mother could find her son lifeless and immediately post about it.  Then again, DUmmies are always rushing to post about a life crisis that any sensible person would be getting actual help for.

You may recall the CalPig posting at the DUmp to let the DUmmies know that Mr. CalPig was in the thoes of a heart attack,  Only after posting did she tend to the crisis. The whole ordeal is immortalized in her classic "Blink, Blink, Blink, Blink" opus. Mr. CalPig survived, which is good, I guess.

He was an entertainer and fed the hungry, what a guy.

Well, his miserable existence was sort of entertaining, but otherwise he was like the brainless DUmmy kpete - a DUmpmonkey who never did anything but copy-and-paste links. The best DUmbasses are the ones who allow their twisted thoughts to flow down through their fingertips and on through space, to collide with our funny bones. This dead basement lardass never did that, I think mainly because he was a genetic accident like Pam. Unlike Pam, though, his brain didn't generate enough electical activity to allow his thoughts to be passed on.

Probably a large reason why he died was due to the inactivity that would allow him to be a 'posting machine', not to mention the stress someone that invested in politics likely creates for themselves by being angry all the time, deliberately angry. The sad reality is had Khepra instead concentrated on his health and left the computer and got some movement in the years leading up to his death, he may have been alive today.
