Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Texas, said on Tuesday afternoon that repealing the national health care law would violate the Constitution.
Arguing that the Commerce Clause provides the constitutional basis for ObamaCare, Jackson Lee said repealing the law by passing Republicans' H.R. 2 violates both the Fifth Amendment's right to due process and the Fourteenth Amendment's equal protection clause.
“The Fifth Amendment speaks specifically to denying someone their life and liberty without due process," she said in a speech on the House floor moments ago. "That is what H.R. 2 does and I rise in opposition to it. And I rise in opposition because it is important that we preserve lives and we recognize that 40 million-plus are uninsured.
She continued, "Can you tell me what’s more unconstitutional than taking away from the people of America their Fifth Amendment rights, their Fourteenth Amendment rights, and the right to equal protection under the law?â€

Hmmmm...seems to me that the taxes (and the left has called them taxes) to be levied is in fact a deprivation of property (my earnings) for the sole purpose of giving it to another without due process of law.

That was my main point, although I'd love to be a fly on the wall and see precisely what these "subcommittees" do regarding these aspects of American life. How much of what they do is utter bullshit and how much is legitimate?
I tend to think much of that stuff is questionable at best.

I tend to think they get added pay and staffers for being on the committees and they require very little actual additional work from the members.

And the louder they scream and more shit they talk, the more likely they are to get the black vote and a seat in power. Don't believe me, just look and listen to the Al Sharptons, Charlie Rangels(sp), Jesse Jacksons, Ray Nagins out there.
The smart blacks, the conservative ones, capable of holding a position of power aren't going to be elected unless they come from a majority white district.

I thought we had her last year with the scholarship scandal. South Dallas may be a crap hole, but they know how to get out the vote. The good news is that Clancy dang near took out Watkins. I knew Clancy when he was on the bench and had the pleasure to speak with him at a fundraiser last year. I was pulling hard for him, but since I vote in Denton County, all I could really do was talk him up.

I'm having to put this as delicately as I can.....if you know south Dallas, you know that they are more willing to vote for someone who looks like them rather than someone who has their best interest at heart.

Well, it comes as no surprise to anybody that those who have had their hand out and had it filled their entire lives by those who use that practice as a method of keeping those same folks in line tend to think that those who continue to fill that hand have "best interests at heart."

I know, that was a shocker. I was amazed, probably shouldn't have been, but I was that she got reelected. I voted Clancy. I am interested to see what is going to happen in the mayor's race. I wonder if Leppert is going to run for KBH's seat. He said he would never run against her. I am glad I don't live in the city though.
