Title: Genesis Laser treatments for the face
Post by: Lacarnut on April 05, 2008, 09:45:06 PM
Anyone had any experience with this type of cosmetic thereaphy. Thinking about having it done for rosacea and scars on my forehead.

I never heard of it, so was interested when you mentioned it. It looks safer from the standpoint that it doesn't harm the skin's surface. I am a little leery of treatments that require you to never see sunlight again. I'm exaggerating, but as a blue-eyed blonde, I take the sun pretty seriously.

I understand the Laser has an Invisible Touch.  :-)

I had a consultation last week and unbenounced to me this gal was a pharma saleswoman doing this part time. Think I need to go get another consulation with a real doctor that is Board Certified. From the many articles I have read on the net, it appears very safe and is very effective. I am pretty sure that my insurance does not cover this.

Insurance never covers the things you REALLY want done.  I want 50 pounds of fat sucked out of me, a tummy tuck, and my boobs put back up on my chest.  Insurance says nooooooooooooooooo. :bird:

I dunno, larcarnut.

Since 1998, I've had to have various growths removed from the face; latent melanoma, one might call it, although I'm sure that's not the exact medical term.

Three different methods have been done; the scapel, laser, and frozen nitrogen.

They all seem to have worked the same, although I prefer frozen nitrogen.

It might have a great deal to do with the texture of your skin.

In my case, I've lucked out--I luck out on a lot of things--in that after all heals, there is no visual evidence of anything having been done.  A expert dermatologist of course can notice, but in this case, apparently only with a magnifying glass.

I think a lot of it depends upon the texture of your skin.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! I totally gave you a H5 for that!

I was wondering if it's done by Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins.

On a serious note, I would check with these guys http://www.aad.org/ and make sure that you understand what the procedure can and cannot do. Lots of claims are made about such things so it's worth it to confirm. And, make sure whatever you do, that you are being treated by someone who is board certified and make sure they do not have any complaints on file. Lots of unqualified people at "spas" use these procedures and devices and not all of them are trained properly or licensed.

I also assume that you're familiar with all of the different treatment protocols for this condition. Have you checked with the Rosacea Foundation?

I had laser treatment on some sun spots both on my face and neck/chest area.  I'm not sure if it is the same laser they would use to treat your rosacea though.  It looked like hell for a couple of weeks then after all the old gross skin flaked off it looked a lot better.  I can still see some of the spots but they are faint and in general it looks so much better.  She said that I need to wear sun screen every day which I do.  If they come back (and they will) I can go back and have more treatments.

I have been to several board certified dermatoligist for my ongoing rosacea. None of them have recommended this. I saw this service being offered at a general practioner's office and was curious. Made an appointment and then found out this gal was a pharma saleswoman and doing it as a sideline. This machine (Genesis) looks like it does a great job with rosacea, scars, acne and wrinkles. I am going to give it a try but don't want some jackleg shooting beams of light around my eyes even though they are protected with goggles.

Does your rosacea burn and itch like crazy some times?  I can't tell if I have psoriasis or rosacea, but I'm using a topical ointment for psoriasis that seems to work.

Hi 5 for knowing that Peter Gabriel was once in Genesis.  :-)

Rosacea burns; don't know anything about psoriasis. I use a topical ointment also.

My daughter has eczema and it itches like heck and burns because she has scratched it to death.

That sounds like psoriasis. It's pretty distinct and I have personal experience with it.  :whatever: Damnable sensitive European skin!

If you decide to get it done, go to a board certified doctor..be careful of spa treatments..thats downright scary
a friend of mine's little boy had a huge port wine birthmark on his face, she had laser treatments for him, and the difference is incredible!

After doing a little digging on the net, the company that makes the Genesis laser machine offers an online technician course for $299; if you make 80% on the test they send you a worthless certificate. I am going to stick with a board certified Doctor. Probably cost more but shooting light beams close to my eyes even with goggles is scary.
