From a blog (Don Surber) :
I do not want civil discourse
For a decade, from the election of Bush 43 forward, the Left has lied and cheated as it tried to return to power. Al Gore made a mockery out of the American electoral system by being a spoilsport over Florida, which Bush indeed won by 537 votes. Dan Rather forged a document to try to derail Bush’s re-election. Twice Democrats stole U.S. senators from the Republicans. After voting to support the war to get by the 2002 election, many Democrats quickly soured on the war. The profane protests were cheered by liberals who misattributed “dissent is the highest form of patriotismâ€to Thomas Jefferson; the words belong to the late historian Howard Zinn.
Once in power, liberals were the opposite of gracious.
For two years now, I have been called ignorant, racist, angry and violent by the left. The very foul-mouthed protesters of Bush dare to now label my words as “hate speech.â€
Last week, the left quickly blamed the right for the national tragedy of a shooting spree by a madman who never watched Fox News, never listened to Rush Limbaugh and likely did not know who Sarah Palin is.
Fortunately, the American public rejected out of hand that idiotic notion that the right was responsible.
Rather than apologize, the left wants to change the tone of the political debate.
The left suddenly wants civil discourse.
Bite me.
The left wants to play games of semantics.
Bite me.
The left wants us to be civil — after being so uncivil for a decade.
Bite me.
There is grown-up work to do now. Liberals ran up the federal credit card, destroyed the American medical system and undermined the rule of law — which is the foundation of capitalism — with a bunch of unconstitutional fiats from the president and his bureaucracy.
The economy is a mess. The president “inherited†a 7.6% unemployment rate. It’s now 9.4% — after we spent a record $787 billion on a stimulus.
I was not consulted on that stimulus. I had a very good argument against it. I said the money supply was too large and printing more money would fail. I said let the economic downturn run its course.
Lefties were too busy celebrating the 2008 election to listen.
When people protested lefties made vulgar remarks about tea-bagging and giggled.
So screw you and your civil discourse.
I don’t want to hear it.
I have been screamed at for 10 years.
It’s my turn now. I am not going to scream back. But I refuse to allow anyone to dictate what I say or how I say it. I refuse to allow the same foul-mouthed, foul-spirited foul people who dumped on me to now try to tell me what I may or may not say.
My free speech matters more than the feelings of anyone on the left. You don’t like what I say? Tough.
I will not allow people to label my words Hate Speech or try to lecture me on civility. I saw the lefty signs. The left’s definition of civil discourse is surreal.
We have a terribly unfit president who has expanded government control beyond not only what is constitutional but what is healthy for our freedom.
Indeed, this call for civil discourse is itself a direct threat to my free speech.
So screw you.
You don’t like my words? You don’t like my tone? You feel threatened?
Too bad.
No.
Actually, that is what I want. I want the lefties to feel bad. I want them to feel hurt. I want them to cry to their mommies.
That way the field will be cleared so we grown-ups can fix the nation and the economy. If you can’t put up with a little excrement, get the hell out of the barn.

This is exactly how I feel. However, his dates are off. This really started after the 2006 elections. 2008 elections only made it worse.

I agree 100% with the author. Eff liberals and their lectures on "civility." It's all a ploy to restrict our freedom of speech. As far as I'm concerned, "civil discourse" is liberal code for "If you're a conservative, shut up."

Uh, I beg to differ about when it started to happen.
I'm old enough to remember politics pre-1980, and post-1980.
Before the elections of 1980, it seemed that political affiliation made no more difference to most people, than that one person had brown eyes and the other person had blue eyes. There were disagreements and arguments, but it wasn't as if politics was a good enough reason for people not to be friends.
For the record, I was in college about this time.
After November 1980, I suddenly noticed politics had started to "count;" that they were a determinant, a criteria, in establishing and maintaining associations and friendships.
Which bothered me at the time, but I figured it would pass.
It never did.
The Democrat loss in 1980, and of such epic proportions, seemed to have permanently embittered the losers, and 1980 was a very long time ago now, more than a generation.
The blame for excessively divisive partisanship lies squarely on the shoulders of the other side; I am not aware of a single case where a Republican or a conservative has been unwilling to extend the hand of friendship to a Democrat or liberal--because after all, they each may have 10,000 characteristics, only 1 of which is that they differ on politics, and the other 9,999 might be beneficial, of use, to both.
I am aware however of far too many cases where the hand of friendship has been bitten by the other side.
This phenomenon has been noted by others than just myself, and even in books.
The blame lies on the other side, and until they grow up, their bitterness is always going to discourage association and friendship on matters other than politics.

It goes back far longer then people realize.
Back to the very begining of the USA really.

I have no desire to play games of semantics with liberals, and I didn't vote for my representatives to do the same, either.
It's one thing to not resort to foul language, ad hominems, cite lies or make lies up - such as that is what is truly uncivil and what truly has no place in politics. Then again, we on the Right don't need to resort to such things in order to defeat our opposition - all we have to do is be what we are and that's enough.
It's always the Left that makes these big, dramatic pleas for civility and whatnot whenever they lose. I understand - losing stinks, and no one wants to lose. But, the Left just doesn't understand that they are not the vanguards of progress and morality, so when they lose, they are angry that no one else saw them as they see themselves. Then, the BS-ery starts and they make demands for civility - except when they're in power, then they're as uncivil as it gets.
Aside from base language and behavior, the Left should get no such "civility" - because that, to them, means that conservatives shut up, don't push for our goals, and stay in the back of the bus and let them run the show. To hell with that and to hell with them.

Frank, you may be right, but I don't recall the hate & venom being spewed by the Left in the 80s on forward until about the time that GWB took office. I really didn't pay a whole lot of attention to politics all that much.

WOW!

I think the availability of the internet has helped more people become aware of the hatred from the left. It sure has given them a more open forum for spreading their lies and hatred, anyway.

The venom was there. Mainly cracks about Reagan...same stuff they are saying about him today. The whole Ray Gun Ronnie stuff...revulsion of him referring to Russia as the Evil Empire.
Only problem was that we never heard about most of it because back then the MSM still had all the control when it came to the media.
The could dictate what we knew and what version we learned.

That and as for me I was busy being a Sailor with deployments, long hours, etc. When I wasn't actually "on duty", I had a myriad of hobbies filling my life. There just wasn't a lot of time for politics for me through around 2000. (some, just not a lot)

I don't know, maybe it was 30+ years ago, but I used to watch
one and half hours of national news in the winter time. ABC, NBC and CBS news came on here at diffent times. So I was changing channels and watching reports of the same thing with 3 different points of view....all leftist but 3 different angles by 3 different boardcasting companies. You know what? You could get a fair picture of what "REALLY" happened....then they all went to coming on at the same time.

Politics is a dog eat dog world. Frank is right, the venom has been there in the 1980s. However as Thor pointed out, it was more obvious when George W. Bush was in office.
Well, the truth is, it always has been there as along as humanity existed. It will exist in the future.
The Democratic Party did change in 1980. Prior to 1980 it was a very different part. Democrat back than was the party of the South and Northern cities.

DUmmies blame Sarah Palin for the Ides of March.
-
I don't care when it started. They are playing games with the economy, the defense of this country and with peoples lives all so that they can get in and keep the power they have once in. Once they start to ignore the will of the people then they should be voted out or removed from office.

Yep! I didn't really start payin' attention until I was semi retired. There was always another mall to build, blue prints to pour over and in my off time fish to catch and game to load the freezer with.
Nowadays I'm acutely aware of the "I didn't win so I'm takin' my ball home and tellin' my dad you guys cheated" bullshit from the left!
Liberals can't win an election with facts so they frame their arguments out of screamin' "racist" or "lies" without a single fact to back it up!
They need to be taken to the woodshed just like my dad did with me every time he caught me in a lie! Tellin' him he was the one at fault would have got me 10 extra swats!

Don't worry. All their new-found taste for 'Civil discourse' will evaporate like spit on a griddle as soon as something happens that they can actually pin on someone who claims to be a TEA Partier.

They STILL haven't unwound from Loughner regardless of any FACTS thrown in their faces. Civil?? My ass...

The Left are masters of projection, which is when sombody clames you are doing what they do. They accuse us of incivilty when the are the masters of it, the latest example being this shooting. They claimed that the Right tampered with the votes in Florida? It think they were shocked that they had not won after massive vote fraud. It think Miami Dade quit the recount even though Gore wanted them to keep going, becuase it was getting so high profile the they were afraid of their fraud being exposed.
When the Left accuses us of Hate Speech, what it really means is that they hate your speech, and are not respecting your 1st Amenedment Right to have it.

Great article, but I'm especially amused by this part:

I just love how they accused us of voter tamperin' when all the districts they were behind in were run by DemoncRats! Boy, don't that sound reasonable! Idiots!
If that weren't enough, they tried like hell to keep our military vote from countin'! Yeah, you's guys are always on the up and up, aren't ya? ****in' thieves!
I'd like to shove an ACORN down yer throat!

Just remember, every bitch and moan the left has is a projection. ...and you can take that to the bank. They say we hate the Constitution, yet they're the ones trying to take away the 2nd Amendment and Rush, et al's 1st Amendment. They're in between fascists and communists....which, in terms of OUR politics, both lie on the leftist plane of politics. True conservatives want limited government.
