Kramer: AIDS is a plague allowed to happen
Sorry, Blue Bear. You didn't add any thought or comment to the article, so no quote. It's mostly just kvetching that the poor oppressed gays aren't allowed to force their perversion on the rest of us, yet.

1. Try to find a copy of the movie *And The Band Played On* and you'll see the politics
There's a special place in hell for Ronald Reagan AND the Red Cross cabal that fought tooth and nail NOT to test the blood supply until it was too damned late.
There is an age old response to infectious plagues that have no cure DUmmies. It starts with "q" and ends in "uarantine". The only way to stop AIDS in a given area such as a country is to round up all known infected individuals and test everyone else and quarantining anyone else who is infected until the disease is eliminated. Reagan knew this. You think he wasn't friends with any gay people? The man made a living in Hollywood for god's sake! Of course he did. Do you think that he may have dragged his feet because he understood the only logical answer and thought it might not spread so far? I'll let you ponder that.
The telling thing is not that Reagan did or did not do anything. The telling thing is that now, thirty years after the onset of a viral disease, with vectors and prevention being well understood, it continues to spread wildly within the gay and intravenous drug using communities. Here is a clue. Take some ****ing responsibility.
The other thing is you dipshits thought going out and giving blood you knew to be infected was a good idea, but instead of causing widespread infections in straight people, you killed a generation of hemophiliacs. Yet, you don't mention their blood that is on your hands. I wonder why that is?

Considering how readily available condoms are, and the amount of money we have spent educating people on the prevention of AIDS, there is no excuse for the number of people (mainly homosexuals) contracting HIV today. The only thing that the government could have done to eliminate AIDS would have been the complete quarantine of those infected, and that would have been met with absolute fury.
Really, I would really like somebody to tell me exactly what should have been done differently, and I would like them to explain how the disease continues to spread considering that we know exactly how to prevent it.

Because sometimes ignorance is bliss

DUmmies and liberals in general can't handle harsh realities. If a quarantine is the most reasonable way to deal with AIDS they will have none of it. It might cause (gasp) some inconvenience.
Thus the liberal drumbeat goes on, good intentions, disastrous results.

I've often wondered about this.
If you asked people, "Suppose you knew that someone had tested HIV+. Would you have casual, passing sex with that person using a condom or would you wait and find someone else?" how would they answer?

Oh but there is. And the reason why will shock the hell out of you.
The quotations and first-person accounts by HIV Negative men in these studies suggest that while an HIV Positive test result was originally looked upon as a calamity, this is no longer always the case. This is partly because some PWAs are learning how to take care of themselves and are living longer, and partly because a growing number of gay men see HIV infection and subsequent AIDS not as something that can or should be avoided, but as, in Johnston's words, something "fundamentally linked to gay identity". Certainly it has been represented to them that way. Heterosexuals and lesbians are told, "AIDS doesn't discriminate!" But gay men have come to perceive it as an inextricable part of their "community", their "identity", and their future. One female-to-male transsexual told his therapist that his transformation to a gay man would only be complete when he had contracted HIV! I have heard gay men repeat the homophobic joke: "GAY stands for Got AIDS Yet?".

Kind of like an arrest record gives street cred among those who claim "the man" is keeping them down.

Hetero people would likely avoid sex with any partner with any STD, but teh gheys don't seem to care.

So, basically, there are a number of gay men with deep rooted mental problems. Awesome.
I believe in helping those who are either unable to change their circumstances or those who are working hard to help themselves. I have no sympathy for anybody who purposely contracts a fatal disease, and it really bothers me that tax money is going to be spent to care for these men. There are children dying of cancer in our country, and we are wasting money trying to find a cure for a disease that people contracted on purpose. Sickening.
There are thousands of women and children in Africa who have contracted HIV/AIDS through no fault of their own, and rather than allowing us to focus our efforts there, gay men are being selfish enough to fight against its eradication the United States.

Years ago, I read Rolling Stone. I know... :hammer: One of the reporters went to one of those "bug catching" parties to try and get a scoop/clue. Came away utterly flummoxed at the mindset of it all. Same results with a Furry party. I absolutely believe it's all about identity. The joy of being a victim.

I've also read too that because of the medicines today...the younger Gay society doesn't see AIDS as the death sentence that the older generation did. Hence the resurgence of gay bath houses in SF and what I posted earlier.

Then they must be in heaven.

Bug catching parties? Good God, that is just sick. You don't see straight people trying to catch the clap on purpose. :mental:

I was actually living in the Bay Area at the time being a liberal college student. My best friend escaped the plague (he's never been promiscuous) but I lost about 5 friends in rapid succession, like a row of dominoes being knocked down. In some ways it was very surreal. At the VERY beginning no one knew what caused it but after a while researchers figured out it was transmitted through sexual activity. Ground zero were the bath houses near Polk Street and the Castro District. A few of the advocacy groups in the area wanted to close them down, at least for a while but bath houses are huge money makers in the gay community. As a compromise they wanted to be able to pass out fliers at the Gay Freedom Day Parade warning parade goers to be careful and not engage in indiscriminate sex. Again, gay business owners objected, as did most of the "gay rights" groups. They were afraid it would set back all the progress they'd made. Liberal foresight is an oxymoron. Back then, June (when the parade was held) was like Mardi Gras in New Orleans...almost a years worth of profits could be made in just a few days. So men coming from all over the country had no warning, no information...not even warnings to wear a condom.
When it started spreading across the country the powers that be blamed Reagan. And like good little sheep liberals (gay and straight) believed them as they always do. Whether it was because they would have to reexamine their values or that they simply couldn't face the fact that those who claimed to be looking out for them betrayed them in the most horrific way imaginable, they believed what they were told. And the bath houses were closed anyway. To this day they still refuse to acknowledge what really happened. It's one of the few topics my BFF and I don't talk about because I don't know that he can ever accept his own community was responsible and our friendship is more important than trying to beat him up with the truth. If he needs to believe that, so be it. But it was probably the first time it really hit me that liberalism was a self-serving lie. Granted, it wasn't an immediate epiphany...I had voted for Reagan over Carter in the previous election but mostly because I hated my history teacher and he had all kinds of "vote for Carter" crap on his office door. But the left was perfectly willing to let people die for their cause. If that's not twisted and evil I don't know what is.

Interesting story, Cindie.

Another example is DDT and malaria.

I just can't wrap my mind around the idea of "wanting to contract any kind of VD!
I had a case of the clap when I was in high school! I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy! I was fortunate and and a nurse friend at Fitzimmons Army hospital in Denver that gave me a shot of penicillin so I didn't have to tell my parents or go to the family doc!
I was extremely careful after that and got married for life! Best way I know to stay away from that shit!

I graduated high school in 1963....two fellows in my class moved to San Fransico that summer and went to work in the post office. I had no idea they were gay or that that was the reason for their move. They both died in the mid 80's from AIDS.

Amen. Furthermore, with the existence of human reason and willpower, there is no reason that any STD, including AIDS, should be so widespread. All it takes is abstinence - self-control. But that's what the Left doesn't understand, especially since the "sexual revolution", when it was publicized that unrestrained, unbridled, irresponsible sex is a God-given right.
But as long as gays continue to define themselves primarily by their sexual preferences (ie, just the fact that they call themselves "gay") and continue to believe that it's OK for one man to act like a another man's rectum is an acceptable substitute for a woman's vagina just because he happens to find it personally appealing, AIDS will continue to be a problem until a cure is discovered.
