WTF? Why was there a need to give it some name? Wasn't calling it a memorial service good enough? I'm surprised that Obama doesn't have an opening band like he did at so many of his campaign rallies.
-
Did you all see this...?
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2011/01/what-president-obama-should-sa.html
What President Obama should say
President Obama is scheduled to speak in Arizona Wednesday evening. The speech will come four days after a gunman, identified by police as Jared Lee Loughner, killed six people and wounded 14 during a shooting rampage in front of a Tucson supermarket. Among the dead: a nine-year old girl who aspired to enter politics and a federal judge. Among the wounded: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the apparent target.
Analysts and commentators around the web are giving the president advice regarding what he should (and should not) say to the American people. We've collected analysis that we have found to be interesting (with a special nod to the Post's Chris Cillizza), but professional analysts don't own the discussion.
Emphasis mine. ANYONE ELSE HEAR SHE WANTED TO ENTER POLITICS?
-
I'm predicting failure for ObeyWon tonight. I've seen enough of his speeches. I have yet to see any evidence of his ability to show empathy or even sympathy for people. The only emotion I've seen him demonstrate is anger. That is not what is needed.
-
Is it a memorial or an Obama rally? Souvenir t-shirts emblazoned with the logo for the 'Together We Thrive' gathering at the University of Arizona were placed on chairs at the arena ahead of the memorial.
It's odd for a memorial to a mass murder to have a logo, but it's crass to hand out souvenir t-shirts.

Attend a memorial service, get a free t-shirt!
Does anyone else think this is crass and cheap?

I shit you not...they've "branded" a memorial service, the shameless ****s.

How long after the service will they wait until they issue a presser triumphantly RE-announcing they are proceeding with their lawsuit against AZ and investigation of Sheriff Arpaio?

Thist is not about the dead, but the political goals of the living. Formal dress implies reverence to the dead. Informal dress implies that we have moved passed the dead to our normal lives. The goal is to make this the first political rally of 2011 for the Mocha Messiah.

He is going to say...
"The president will devote a significant portion of his remarks to the memory of the victims," Gibbs said. "He'll also reflect on how all of us might best honor their memory in our own lives." eat a bowl of **** obie.
-
Where do you all think those T-shirts where made? USA..union or China?

Will that be before or after he visits the concession stands, which are now open, by the way. Not kidding.

What I'd like to know is which ****ing union had the connections to get a stadium full of t-shirts made on such short notice...

The democrat fund-raiser who has a sweatshop filled with illegals making $2.15/hour.
BTW - maybe I'm paranoid but why is Jan Brewer the only name on the list with a party affiliation listed?

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
OMG.... i want to puke...
politicizing the deaths of Americans for his own personal gain... Bush had the fortitude to be reverent... this POS has not ethical bone in his body..
-
I am so glad I missed Obeythewon Kooknobi's speech tonight.
-
Remember when President Bush handed out free t-shirts after Virginia Tech?
Yeah, me neither.

SEIU

I thought it was supposed to be a memorial, but each time I flipped over I saw alot of whooping and hollering. I guess The One used it as a political rally.
-
Remember when President Bush handed out free t-shirts after Virginia Tech?
Yeah, me neither.
But what about when Clinton handed them out at the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial Service?
http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/wjcoklahomabombingspeech.htm
Oh yeah. :thatsright: None there either.
Even Slick Willy knew when to act like a President.

I don't know when or why it started but blacks have been making and wearing T-shirts to funerals for several years now. They usually have a picture of the deceased on the front/back or both sides with the line "In loving memomery of ___________." and the dates of birth and death.

I wonder if that has to do with so many children be gunned down by gangbangers.
-
According to Fox News, it was the university that made 20,000 tshirts and handed them out.
I finally saw the whole thing early this morning on Fox News. The Native American who opened the event...is a family practice doctor and attended the university. Maybe the organizers of it, thought that having a Native American do the opening was most appropriate for the people of Arizona.
Napolitano did a reading from the Book of Isiah in the Old Testament.
Obama did not have TOTUS, he read from his notes.
Personally, I thought it was a good speech. A bit long, but basically apolitical. I thought one of the best things he said was in regard to how Christina felt about our country... "I want America to be as good as she imagined it ..."
Regardless, of what anyone thinks of Obama, whether they think he's a hero or a zero (God knows, I personally think he's a terrible president)...his speech last night was good. Whoever wrote it did a good job, and he did a better than decent job of delivery.
If any of you who haven't listened to the entire speech, and are highly critical of it....then you are acting no differently than the DUmmies who take things out of context and critcize us.

I've noticed that as well.
I plan on going to the memorial for Debbie Flores Narvaez (the woman brutally killed by her ex boyfriend in Las Vegas) tonight. I highly doubt anyone will be cheering.

I heard Clinton was trying to give him empathy lessons. Biting the lower lip, the sad wrinkles in your face, shedding a fake tear, etc...

I finally listened to Obama, and I will say that he wasn't bad. However the cheering and clapping was disconcerting to say the least.

I read someplace the Arizona State is a huge lib bastion.
Most universities are sadly.
And minor correction: the "memorial" was held at University of Arizona, not Arizona State.

Michelle Malkin has compared the tones of last night's "memorial" and the Virginia Tech memorial. Stark contrast.
I'm embarrassed for the U of A and Tucson. The whole thing was a spectacle when what it should have been was a somber, reflective service.

The women are hotter at ASU.

To be fair, ASU did deny Obama an honorary degree. So they have that going for them. LOL. But otherwise, no, same shit, different city. :-)

I'm told ASU parties harder too. But I know nothing about that. :whistling:

I know, right? :censored:
A memorial? That was inappropriate with all the clapping and cheering going on. Last time I went to a funeral, we didn't hold a pep rally.
OH! I forgot. We didn't bus in SEIU thugs neither. Disgusting.

Obama has kicked off his 2012 campaign on the backs of the deceased... :argh:

If we had to elect a black man as a President then why couldn't it have been this guy.
