There is a popular saying that goes "Kids should be seen and not heard."
Some Singapore restaurants, not just the fine-dining eateries, aren't taking the chance that the little tykes will comply and are banning young children from their premises.
PS. Cafe at Ang Siang Hill boldly states on a sign at its front entrance that it's "adults and teenagers only" at its newest branch. However families with young children are welcomed to dine at their other three outlets.
According to a report by The Straits Times, the restaurant only allows patrons aged 13 years and above to dine there. The report goes on to quote the chain's business development manager, Mr Edward Lee as saying that while it was a difficult decision, it was implemented from a practical and safety point of view.
PS. Cafe isn't alone. There are a number of other restaurants that aren't afraid to state their preference for diners of a certain age group.

Controversial but I'm sure there's a market for child free dining, I hate it when a nice meal out is ruined by someone's ill disciplined brat but on the other hand it is good to see families eating out together and the generations mixing.

I usually have less problem with the ill-disciplined brats UNDER the age of majority that the ill-disciplined brats OVER the age of majority. And usually, when I see a minor-aged ill-disciplined brat behaving like an ill-disciplined brat, they're usually being encouraged and egged on by at least one of the ill-disciplined brats of consenting age.

Some of the worst jackasses I've encountered while dining out were adults. However, that doesn't negate the annoying occasions when we've gone to a fine dining establishment and had our hundred dollar meal ruined by someone refusing to remove their recalcitrant toddler. Same for church services. There is NOTHING attractive in allowing kids to run down the aisles while the minister is preaching. :p
Parents really ought to have a good idea of how well behaved, or not, their kids are. We would take our daughter anywhere and expect she would be a good, quiet child. We used to get the fisheye from patrons and staff at German gasthauses, where people were more apt to frequent with a dog than a kid, but by the end of the evening Aimee would be being passed from table to table and back to meet the chef, etc. And she was only one and two!
Our son on the other hand, once he was born we were housebound unless we could line up a sitter. That was a rare occasion since the nearest grandparents were always at least 1000 miles away and even teenagers in need of spending money seemed difficult to come by.

I like it !! There are far too many times that we've gone out for dinner and had our dinner interrupted by kids banging on the booths, infants and toddlers screaming and the parents don't do a damned thing about it. It ruins the complete experience. I can't tell you how many times my dinner was interrupted as a child because I wouldn't behave. Many times I was sent out to the car to wait on my mom & grandma to get done with dinner. I've considered whether or not that would go over well here. Good on the Singapore restaurants!!

I like it !! I hate that when dinner is ruined by some kid screaming. I have that problem at movie theaters too or any public place.

Sigh, I reminisce (sp?) almost every day about Europe. Wouldn't want to live there permanently, but I sure do miss the experiences we had.
Were were you at? We lived in Frankfurt 3 years, Stuttgart for 3 years and the final 3 in Augsburg. One 3-year stateside tour inbetween each posting.

I was in Schweinfurt as a little girl and then when I was married I was in Mannheim. I miss it as well my daughter was made there

Ah, Mannheim was just down the road from us when we were in FRankfurt and one of my husband's brothers was stationed there at the same time.
My daughter was made in Charleston, London, or Frankfurt. No sure as my dear husband managed to impregnate me on our honeymoon and we were in all three locales. She was definitely delivered in Frankfurt and I wish the stork had had a smoother landing, that foul bird. :hammer:

I got pregnant with my daughter sometime the last week we were there. I wanted to stay in Germany and I would go back in a New York second if I had the money

I think it's great that parents want to take their kids out to dinner. There are lots of "kid friendly" restaurants.
If they want to take them to a non kid friendly one, don't do it on Friday or Saturday night because that is just flat out inconsiderate to everyone else!! If I couldn't find the money for a babysitter, in order to go out on a weekend night, we didn't go out, or we took the kids to ChuckyCheese. I was not about to risk ruining someone else's evening out, with my kids presence. They did know how to behave too, I just don't think that kids, under the age of about 11 or 12, belong in a nice (expensive) restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night. At least by 11 or 12, these days, they are playing a game on their phones and being quiet. :whatever:
