Title: Band of Holes
Post by: Thor on January 07, 2011, 12:12:16 AM
Are they naturally occurring or made by man or some other entity?? Discuss....

I am going to say naturally occuring.  Looks like some kind of erosion.

Well.....I'm too lethargic today to look up where those actual coordinates are, but they look manmade to me.

Years ago, geologists used small explosive charges detonated in bands such as those and utilized a seismometer to make echo measurements in the quest for mineral deposits.

Rather than "holes" they look pretty much like small craters created by shallowly buried explosive charges, buried at precise intervals, with no overlap.  Without better imaging I'd say their symmetry rules out a natural event/events.

YMMV

Looks natural, like wasps nests do. Bee hive style holes.

Well.....judging from the fact that it appears to be a "Google Earth" photo (coordinates at bottom), and looking at the surrounding terrain, were it a bee or wasp, they would have to be the size of a Cessna.......

Those holes have been there for close to a Millennium or more. They're approx 3 meters apart, 6-7 feet deep. With them that old, it's tough to say that they're man-made, because we didn't have that kind of technology back then. I'm sure that erosion has taken its effect on the holes. I also doubt that they are naturally occurring.

So, I was kinda right?  Like maybe, just maybe some of that Science Channel stuff I have to watch I retained???????

Let me restate that so a NON-Native Texan can understand.......  :fuelfire:

It appears that erosion has taken its toll on the ORIGINAL holes.....

Just kinda.  Mr. Grumpy Pants.

Now, back to the topic.  This is the Science Club, and I read the rules.

Where is this?

It appears that there are more mysteries in this area...or more to this mystery than just the "road."

http://www.nazcamystery.com/pisco_valley.htm

Scroll down on this page to the "The Complete Pisco Road."  You can scroll the pic to see the "face" near the top of the road, and the 2 larger craters at the other end.  It also makes the length somewhat more obvious.

There are also pics of other crater sites in that area.  Totally  :???: :???: :???: :???:

A bunch of kids in a juvenile detention camp did it.  Didn't you see the movie?

People do goofy shit when they're bored.  I'm betting they did similar goofy shit when they were bored a millennia ago too.  Actually, I read something or saw something about this within the past month, whether it was done by man or nature, it's still pretty interesting.

I thought this was going to be a Eupher thread. :p

It said "band of Holes" , not "band of A Holes".

Well, it wasn't at the start but it's never to late to make it a Eupher thread.

Actually, I was thinking sorta the same thing - a bunch of bands named Hole - that would mean that Courtney Love would have to be cloned a few times.

hell, I'm game. Bitches can rock just as well as dudes can, dammit.
