Title: Greetings :)
Post by: Varokhâr on January 04, 2011, 04:05:11 PM
Long-time conservative, first-time poster.

I'm a refugee from the east coast, having lived all but the last four years of my life there (28+ in NJ, 2ish in Massachusetts), and life there really helped to cement conservative values and perspectives in my mind. Though I miss home, I'm happy to live where I don't have to jump through near so many government hoops in order to own a gun to protect myself and where the welfare state is a bit smaller (even though as an unemployed man the government would like me to think otherwise, heh).

I won't drone on, but it's nice to be here :)

Hi!
Did you bring beer?   :cheersmate:

I think there are a few left downstairs.

Welcome. What does your screen name mean?

It means "wolf heart" and is from a Lord of the Rings-based short story I wrote a few years ago.

Welcome.  Time to lose the accent.

KC

Thanks. Never did have much of one, anyway. Didn't live far enough north to pick up that grating faux-NYC accent, Thank God.

Somebody also keeps asking about peach cobbler....

My wife makes a killer one, but I'm more for apple cobbler. Peaches shouldn't ever get hot, bleh.

Will probably take me forever, at this rate.

Hiya and thanks for the beer!   :cheersmate:

Where are you now?

Gillet, Wisconsin. For now, anyway.

It's nice up here, but the job market SUCKS. I haven't been out of work this long since I was 13.

Welcome!

Thank ya!

Welcome from another New Jerseyite!

Thanks; where are you mired in NJ? I'm a native Trentonian (Princeton is my adopted hometown, tho'; yes, liberals an' all).

Welcome to CC.

I grew up in Janesville, WI and had to see where Gillet was located.  Way up by Green Bay.  Such a small town too.  No wonder why the job market isn't too hot up there.  Hope you find a job soon.  I am also unemployed.

Heh, I have to look up Janesville to see where it was located.

Yeah, I've gone as far as Appleton and Oshkosk for work. Still, nothing. I swear I must be unmarketable out here or somethin' ;)

Good luck finding work for you, too! 26 months and counting...

NW part of the State, Morris County.

Not bad; one of the more Republican-leaning counties, if I recall rightly. Never visited, though.

It's between Madison, WI and Rockford, IL.  My parent's home is only 10-15 minutes from the Illinois state line.

Thankfully yes, but we've had an influx of Democrats over the years, but we're still considered heavily Republican.

Thanks; love the avatar :)

Ugh... Illinois... it's like the New Jersey of the midwest (to me).

I'm half-surprised any county back home leans Republican at all. Praise be you guys have managed to hold out as long as you did :)

I remember back in late '04, when I had a job driving a truck for a printing press in Lawrenceville. I ran up to North Bergen at least once a day, five days a week, and I had found an American flag in the Isuzu I drove most of the time. I hung it up behind the seats in the cab, would listen to Rush and Hannity loud and with the windows down, and used to smirk, wondering how many Democrats might have heard me and bristled at it.

I still smirk about that. Good times.

Nice to have you here - welcome!  :cheersmate:

Thanks! South Jersey is nice; been ages since I was further south than Bordentown (OK, Camden when I drove trucks).

As far as something to drink is concerned, a cuppa joe would be nice about now....

Camden's a war zone, simply put; I don't see it getting better anytime soon.

I grew up in a tiny town in Burlington County on the Delaware River, next to Palmyra, left for college, came back and lived in Collingswood for awhile, and have been here on the edge of Atlantic county for the last 20 years.  Do you miss the Shore out there in cheese country?  That's one of the biggest reasons I'm still here.  Bet ya don't see O.T.C crackers out there either!

Dunkin' Donuts coffee is something I miss out here. I can get it at stores, but there aren't any Dunkin' Donuts shops out in WI. Wisconsiners are nuts.

Yeah, I'd like to see the shore again; it's been over 20 years since I've been to it. But Princeton is where it's at for me. Got addicted to it when I worked with my father delivering produce in the area and it still thrills me no end.

At least the Packers play the Eagles on Sunday, so either way I've got a team going forward in the playoffs :)

Welcome aboard, my friend!!!!  :cheersmate:

Love your take on Meatwad, although I'm not sure Master Shake and Frylock would appreciate the slight...  :-)

I'm more of a Phil Ken Sebben kinda guy, myself.

Thanks! Always nice to find someone who appreciates an ATHF reference :)

I found Meatwad holding an AR online; it took some Photoshop trickery to extract him from his background. I made a second flag with an AK; whichever I ultimately go with depends on which rifle I eventually choose to go with for SHTF/ deer drives:

Had to make that one from scratch; you can see that Meatwad's arms are different in each.

Harvey Birdman? That's been awhile for me. Still a good one, though.
