Why is outright quackery still so popular?
I watched a show on History International the other night, and there were two ads that ran several times.
"Colon Flow" (Not "Colon Blow.") :-)
Take this pill and it'll act like Drain-O on your shit.
Some sort of bracelet that "improves energy."
Drugstores, especially the big chains, have lots of quack products in them.
Every time, and I do mean *EVERY ****ING TIME* these products are tested under proper scientific protocols, they fail.
So why are they still available? Are people that stupid that they buy this shit?

The same could be said about liberalism. Every time and I mean every time liberalism is tested it fails. So why is it still believed in? Are people that stupid that they buy this garbage?

1. To answer your last question:
Yes.
Though technically I'd say it's not so much stupidity as it is being unable to smell bullshit.
2008 election proves that.

2. We also believe politicians when they tell us they will change things
and make everything better.
Members of congress tell us this every two (or six) years, and we believe them, providing them with a nice career. We vote for the 'name you know' time after time, because that name tells us what we want to hear.
Snake oil, strings and mirrors.
That's right every election cycle you goons march down to your polling place and pull the lever for every D on the ballot. Then the next 2 years you bitch and moan how they sold you out only, to repeat the next election.

5. A few reasons...
First, wishful thinking. People want to believe there's a simple, affordable solution to their problems. Hope and change
Second, a distrust (often reasonable) of the mainstream pharmaceutical industry that leads people to seek other alternatives. If only you goons could distrust the govt like you do drug companies
Finally, and probably most importantly, there seems to be a lack of critical thinking overall in this country as of late. Examples of this are all over the place. Once again the 2008 election.

36. Because people really are that stupid ...
I'm reminded of that fact daily, when I read some of the crap that gets posted here.
Sid
Hell I have been saying that since 2001 about DUmmyland.

51. same reason people keep buying "hope & change." seriously.
But he allowed gays to openly serve in the military so I thought Obama was in good favor at DUmmyland again.
Oh well, Hannah Bell will vote for him cheerfully in 2012 anyway.

Why is outright quackery still so popular?
Because we're a capitalist economy, and I'm free to sell you ****ing idiots anything legal, as long as your dumbasses continue to buy it.
Case in point: Are you sure it's the DNC selling those ridiculous refrigerator magnets???? I'm just sayin...
As stupid a question as any I've heard coming out of the DUmp.

Biggest quack product to date?
"An Inconvenient Truth", and all the global warming bullshit that came along with it.

If that's the biggest, then Gub'mint run HellCare comes in a - too damned - close ****in' second. :fuelfire:

Global Warming really was a quack product, and I'm surprised the DUmmies don't see it, for all their rabid wealth-hating. A handful of people got obscenely wealthy off the scam. That has the smell of hoax all over it. Almost reads like a Grisham novel, with the evil back-room scheming and plotting, and a coupla guys coming out filthy rich.
Doesn't Al Gore bother them in the least...late at night, deep inside?

Yep the failed policies of collectivism keep getting recycled when they have always, ALWAYS, failed. Not just failed but has been directly responsible for the murder of hundreds of millions of people and the suffering of billions. In the near future historians are going to look at how the USA was silently taken over by the communist democrats and the most prosperous country in the history of mankind became a third world shit hole. Leftist will not see it as their failed ideology but as failing due to stupid mean old people that made it fail, again.

People like to believe in that stuff because it's an easy solution and it also thwarts facing real issues if there are any. Really it is as simple as that...take a pill and voila, your hopes and dreams all come true. Never mind that say losing weight for example involves a lot of blood, sweat, and tears...even more so if you actually want to get your body into toned shape and not just skinny and droopy. The hardest and best thing you can ever realize in some things is that sometimes the harder way has more rewards. IE with weight loss, the loss is only the first of the rewards...improved health, better emotional health and balance, and more energy are also rewards that don't get nearly their due and once you lose weight they become much more important then the weight loss anyway. I continue to workout because it makes me feel my best and keeps my moods, especially during a difficult time, balanced. It keeps me more optimistic and gives me more endurance to face challenges both physically and mentally.
In regards to my second point, people would rather believe that they can have a simple colon cleanse to beat constant fatigue instead of finding out that perhaps they have a more serious chronic condition. The two kind of go hand in hand--both are easier to deal with both on a physical and mental level then the reality of the changes or diagnosis potentially to be made in the other.
I hope that made sense.
I kinda laugh at the dummies talking about quackery though. Aren't these the same people who send healing white light and burning pine needles wrapped in a bunch to ward off ill health and boost their chakras?

I'm picturing spice jars with steel wool, and laughing at DUmmies complaining about quackery.

That's the thing the I was thinking about, but couldn't remember the name.

it was the "Oregone accumulator", but someone else will have to come up with the picture.

Global warming is an enormous international industry that is just getting cranked up. It's a major sector of the overall environmental wacko business. It started as just another attack on American capitalism, but has blossomed into a gigantic international wealth redistribution scam. But what about those cute baby polar bears?

Doesn't Al Gore bother them in the least...late at night, deep inside?
yeah, he's so worried about ocean's rising that he bought a multi-million dollar mansion on, wait for it, THE COAST.
He's a snakeoil salesman and the DUmmies prove how intellectually inferior they are by supporting him.
