"Want to end poverty? Get a job!" A bumper-sticker that made me ashamed of myself.

I live in a small northern Minnesota town. I saw this bumper-sticker today.

Think about that sentiment for a minute. "Want to end poverty? Get a job!"

Some manly-man was ramming his enormous truck around the parking lot at the bowling alley where I was waiting to pick up my young son. He was making alot of noise, being physically intimidating and threatening.

The man made no apologies for his hatred. He got out of his truck and swaggered around and into the bowling alley. He was PROUD of his views.

I felt very ashamed. I am ashamed for forgetting who our real enemy is. Ashamed for being so devisive here on DU. I have been treating my fellow liberals (does anyone proudly claim that moniker anymore?) so poorly. I have been an ass.

I promised myself then and there that I would try my hardest to remain focused on the real issue, which is beating these hateful, hate-filled Republican scumbags back into the hole they crawled out of.

I expect this post to sink like a stone, as do all of my posts. But I wanted to post it here, to remind MYSELF that my enemy is not within my own party.

I apologise for being so mean-spirited toward people who, for the most part, want the same things out of this election as I do.

1. Should have gone up to him and said "Want to end World Hunger? Buy a Sandwich!"

And then, while he's thinking of a clever response, kick him in the shins and run.

Such courage  :whatever:

Work hard and you too can have the Amurkan Dream.

They forget to mention that for most people there are other factors besides hard work involved. Therefore when countless people fail to achieve the dream it's chalked up to personal shortcomings.

The self pity over there makes me ashamed that they call themselves Americans.
That is not nor ever what America is about.

Pathetic bunch of losers.

Halliburton will hire you off the streets, with just enough education to fill out your own application. They will give you 3 months on-the-job training for which--if you are willing to endure the hours and fatigue--make $60k a year plus benes which include paying for the laundry service to clean your coveralls.

They are starving for help.

Libs who cry about employment are mis/dis/un-informed.

I just love that part.  Apparently he was supposed to walk over to a complete stranger and apologize for offending the little lib with his bumpersticker.   :loser:

Wow, jobs are hard to find? I put some work on the front side and in my first attempt to look for employment found one in two weeks that met up with my qualifications. I'm certain had I looked even harder, I could have found something with even better pay, but I really just wanted to gage where I was and maybe get my feet wet a little.

My husband just commented the other day at all the help wanted signs in the window. In Ohio, no less with our crappy economy. They aren't union jobs, but as far as unskilled labor goes, there are quite a few and most job I've ever worked has potential to move up if one works hard and can behave like a civilized human being with their customers and clients.

It's not pathetic, DUmmies...It may be simplistic, but combined with a handful of other things, it is good advice. Perhaps more accurate is 'Want to BEGIN to end poverty? Get a job!'

:bs:  This is likely a bouncy anyway.  There's no way a son-of-a-DUmmie could afford to go bowling in this d*mned **** economy.

What exactly was wrong with his bumper sticker?

It implies that maybe poverty is not the sole responsibility of the "wealthy" and something other than mass redistribution of wealth could end living in poverty, on an individual basis.

A statement like that on the bumper of a vehicle could possibly be read by a person presently hypnotized by socialistic propaganda and cause that person to "snap out of it".  That possibility is unacceptable and "hateful" according to socialist fascist such as those who post at Democrat Underground.

Of course, DUmmies' expressions of outrage at such rebellion towards their goals is always phony and dishonest.  They know the United States was founded to eliminate socialism and that ilk from people's lives.  The DUmmies know it is they who are trying to destroy the USA as designed to recreate here what has already failed all over the world.

And, if they can't find their own jobs, sign up with a Temp agency.  Temp agencies have serious motivation to place people in jobs.  That was how I got the job I have now.  I signed up with a temp agency, and a week later they placed me in a three week temp position.  My supervisor was impressed with my work, so she talked to a few people and I got a temp-to-hire position as a paralegal.  I'm still there, and it pays pretty well.  This was with very minimal work experience straight out of college.

That's what is perplexing. What is 'hateful', according to this DUmmie, about telling someone they can lift themselves out of a crappy situation? In fact, all *some* people need who are down is a little encouragement and hope, not a socialist program. Encouragement and hope can be had with kind words and just showing someone that they are cared about. It doesn't have to involved some complicated government handout to give someone encouragement that they are capable of more.

Encouragement and hope, like private charity, is not perpetual.  Socialism is forever (until it fails, and it always fails).

There really is no way to describe in a pithy paragraph, or on a bumper sticker, the depth of socialism's anti-humanitarianism hidden under its thin veneer of phony compassion.  One has to really stop and think to come to the truth that socialists really love poverty.  They desire it for everyone equally, except for themselves, individually.

How do we KNOW he was making it on his own? How do we KNOW that it wasn't his DADDY'S truck because he's too lame to own such an eye catcher himself and he doesn't want to be caught dead at the bowling alley in his shitbox Pinto?

We don't care about the bumpersticker, we care about the sentiment it implies. Sorry it was too subtle for you.

You said "IT IS VERY EASY TO BITCH, COMPLAIN AND PROTEST BUT NOBODY WILL DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT ABOUT THE 6 OR 8 YEAR OLD KID THAT IS RAPED OR EVEN WORSE???????? WHY IS EVERYONE AT THIS TIME OF YEAR FORGETINGING ABOUT THAT"

Is it a special time of year that I didn't know about? Is there something that you are doing with a young child that you need to get off your chest? I'm confused by your statement.

I assure you, I don't own a trucdk nor am I FORGETINGING about anything at this time of the year.

Thanks for your concern though
