Straight or gay? U.S. court says Web site can't ask

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A roommate-finding site cannot require users to disclose their sexual orientation, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Thursday, in the latest skirmish over whether anti-discrimination rules apply to the Web.

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said Roommates.com, which obliges users to list their sexual orientation, was different than Internet sites where people can volunteer or withhold personal information.

To inquire electronically about sexual orientation would not be different from asking people in person or by telephone if they were black or Jewish before conducting business, the panel said in an 8-3 ruling that partly overturns a lower federal court decision.

More special protection for "special people".   :whatever:

That right there is stupid enough to get this overturned.  Unless they were talking about Stevie Wonder.

Oh FFS!!!!!

I'm sure the blacks and the jews (the ones that aren't liberals) would be highly offended.

Rooming is a pretty intimate living arrangement where you will be exposed to someone's habits and norms(good or bad) day to day. Given the potential for disruption in someone's life it would seem prudent that any relevant detail you could get on someone should be gotten before the individuals agree to share expenses and living space. Someone's sexual habits while not relevent when applying for employment seem very relevent when the person is applying to share living space with another individual. We are talking about someone's living situation here, not access to work.  :whatever:

And to be quite frank about it, seeing gay guys touch and kiss makes me physically ill.  I would not want to be constantly sick to my stomach in my own house.

But would you feel the same if they were lesbians?

I'm not really interested in seeing it either as a female who would like to continue to envision men in their heterosexual capacity.  :-)

Depends, which type of lesbians are you referring to? Jenna Jamison and Brianna Banks-type lesbians? Or these (NSFW):

Well, for myself neither but I CAN tell you my husband would pick the former.
