End employer based health insurance
Edited on Wed Dec-29-10 08:06 AM by wilt the stilt
if we really want to finally change the system make everyone buy their own insurance. It's the only way that the idiots(repubs) in this country will ever understand how we are getting screwed. They only understand money coming out of their pockets and when they start paying over $1,000 per month for no coverage and getting denied insurance for preexisting conditions will the light bulb go on. I used to buy my insurance as a self employed person so i know

New bonfire but wonder how many will grasp that it is the same as income tax withholding?
Make everyone write a check and you will see spending decrease.

They don't write a check for the full amount of it, nor do they think of the deduction, just like they don't see the taxes taken out before they get it.

I've said for years (RN days) that the only way you're ever going to see true tax and spending reform is to make people pay their taxes like business does--straight out of their pockets like every other bill or check they write.

Once they see just how much of their money is REALLY going to the government, it'll be incredible.

I've heard that same argument over the years and completely agree.  Most people have no clue how much taxes they are really paying because they never see their gross amount of money to begin with.  The deductions are just a line on their pay stub.

They tried this in Houston many years ago.  There was a coalition of business owners who decided to pay their employees gross pay and give them a sheet with the amounts they need to mail to the federal government.

The IRS stepped in and put a stop to it.  They didn't have any law to back them up but they put so much pressure on the business owners they finally stopped after just a few weeks.

The IRS knew what was coming and stomped it out.  It was sad.

Most of the farmers I know have a wife that works to keep health insurance on the family...So, cut out her insurance coverage, run the cost of diesel fuel to $5+ a gallon.....

DUmmies will learn to love grits....or die.

I agree. We should have a consumer based health care system. If this were implemented where you paid your own common medical bills we would see prices dramatically go down. This would also give every covered employee at least $300/month maybe more to pay for those cheaper medical costs.

But that makes far too much sense.
