Shock: Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson favors marijuana legalization

"We're locking up people that have taken a couple puffs of marijuana and next thing you know they've got 10 years with mandatory sentences," Robertson continued. "These judges just say, they throw up their hands and say nothing we can do with these mandatory sentences. We've got to take a look at what we're considering crimes and that's one of 'em.

"I'm ... I'm not exactly for the use of drugs, don't get me wrong, but I just believe that criminalizing marijuana, criminalizing the possession of a few ounces of pot, that kinda thing it's just, it's costing us a fortune and it's ruining young people. Young people go into prisons, they go in as youths and come out as hardened criminals. That's not a good thing."

That can't be right! They like getting stoned, and support decriminalization/legalization, and hate everything that conservatives stand for.

So conservatives MUST be in favor of stiff criminal penalties - because they are against them! Never mind that many, even most, conservatives are against the nanny state having excessive control and power, and spending FAR too much money, on a futile exercise.

Nope! There must be some sinister, greedy motive for such a statement:

17. yeah, he's got "chuck colson" style groups
ready to take the YOUR tax dollars to help treat marijuana users into soldiers for christ

If his motivation is not money, it must be to protect someone then:

8. a friend, relative or someone else connected probably got busted
Because Pat just thinks laws only apply to other people...

Either that, or he's just talking crazy to get in the news again...

Now if only conservatives and libertarians could empathize with others:

13. well
George Schultz came out for marijuana legalization after his wife died of cancer. I'm thinking it must have helped the late Mrs. Schultz. If the Repubs walked in other people's shoes a bit more, they'd be less mean.

If I caught someone's athlete's foot, I think I would be a bit more mean. But perhaps that's just me.

Well, if you can't stand to join 'em, switch sides:

It's still illegal as hell EVERYWHERE. The "medical marijuana" business does not trump federal drug law.

That was the first thing I noticed about this.  I'm still amazed that the DUmp allows that site to be even referenced.

That reminds me of a Deep Thought by Jack Handy - "Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you'll be a mile away from them and you'll have their shoes."
