Republican-leaning states all across the South and West will gain congressional seats based on the results of the 2010 Census, according to population counts released Tuesday, a shift that will likely result in a change of strategy by political groups hoping to maximize in 2012.

The Census Bureau announced that eight states will gain a total of 12 seats, while 10 states -- mostly in the Northeast and Midwest -- will lose seats. The population shift sets the stage for potential GOP gains in Congress in 2012, while changing the political landscape ahead of a presidential race which in some respects is already starting.

"The 2010 Census will serve as a backbone for our political and economic system for years to come," Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said.

The Census Bureau unveiled the first package of results from the 2010 head count during a press conference in Washington. Director Robert Groves used the ceremony to announce the official U.S. population count as of April 2010 -- 308,745,538. The number marks a 9.7 percent increase from a decade earlier, a slower growth rate than recorded in previous counts. The population in 2000 was 281.4 million.

But the regional population shifts are what matter to lawmakers looking to boost their party's numbers in Washington. The Census is used to shape state legislative seats and allocate the 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. With growth in the South and West averaging about 14 percent, states in those regions are set to gain the most additional representation in Congress.

Wouldn't it be re-gerrymandering to fix what has been done by liberals?

No, this would be gerrymandering to amplify and magnify the cluster**** caused by the last round of gerrymandering, orchestrated by the traitors progressives and aided and abetted by limp-dicked RINOs who are stupid enough to buy into the liberal argument that "the minorities need proper representation in the new districts, too".  :banghead:

We in MO will be losing a seat, and with a largely-Dem State government at the moment in this swing state, it may well end up being a GOP loss.

Damn, you mean that Mrs E and I moving here in 2007 didn't stop the hemmorhage? Oh, the horrors!

Seriously, it's not surprising at all given the exodus of peeps from small town America....

I don't follow the balance of power in the legislature all that closely, my sense is we have the upper hand there, but the Dems do have the upper hand in the executive branch for the time being.

I've not tracked Nixon all that much, but I don't recall reading anything about him that was especially egregious.

Actually, the GOP had control over both sides of the General Assembly, even before Nov 2.  They took a pretty good thumping, too.  The State Senate will be 8D/26R  (formerly 11D/23R), and the Legislature will be 57D/106R (formerly 74D/88R and a vacany).

My humble suggestion is MO-3 get absorbed into MO-9, MO-8, or a combination of the two.   :whistling:

Texas had 20% gain in population; DFW, Austin and Houston. Guess who moved in? The libtards are all wee-wee'd up thinking they'll gain districts and ready to use their tattered race cards. How soon they forget.

This is a reflection of the flight from liberal bastions that tax the folks to death and after death require homage. Just one more indication of the brilliance of our founding fathers and their understanding of the need for competition among the states!

Yeah, that is the one thing that sucks about Texas being such a great place to have your business.  Businesses keep moving down here.  And they bring their employees.   :(

MO-3 does seem to be the slow wildebeest in the herd, from all I've heard about it so far.  Hopefully we'll have one less crooked Carnahan on the public trough when the smoke clears.
