Britain's winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives.
Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain's culture, as warmer winters - which scientists are attributing to global climate change - produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries.
The first two months of 2000 were virtually free of significant snowfall in much of lowland Britain, and December brought only moderate snowfall in the South-east. It is the continuation of a trend that has been increasingly visible in the past 15 years: in the south of England, for instance, from 1970 to 1995 snow and sleet fell for an average of 3.7 days, while from 1988 to 1995 the average was 0.7 days. London's last substantial snowfall was in February 1991.

Depends where you are. In the big towns and cities, it's not too bad to get around, but deliveries are interrupted. In smaller places and in the country it's still rough. Even where it hasn't snowed again the temperatures are so low it hasn't really dispersed. Long distance travel have been hit and miss with both trains and planes disrupted and I was planning to visit relatives over Christmas but although I could get there it would be hit and miss so I'll wait until the New Year. Thankfully I am well stocked up and live within walking distance of shops. Some people have run into trouble because they order their groceries over the internet and the supermarket delivery services have cancelled a lot of runs; I don't have groceries delivered and am very glad I'm not in the position of hanging on for essentials to be delivered.

That's good. In your case, I wouldn't mind being holed up somewhere. Kind of a nice change of pace. I would hate to be halfway where I am supposed to and get stuck though.

Frankfurt shut down operations today. Brussels had to stop flights because they ran out of de-icing fluid for the planes. My flight back to Afghanistan has been delayed two days because of all of this "disappearing" snow.
The more these idiots cling to their disproven lie about man made global warming the more Mother Nature makes them look like fools.

Dear Abby,
I just read an article from 2000 that said we were going to stop seeing snow. I'm kind of worried because I haven't seen snow in a looooong time.
Is this something I should get involved in? How can we fix this??
Signed,
Deep South Texas

Mother Nature has a good sense of humor.

Everything is. Those bozo scientist hiding the decline and suppressing data is all caused by Global Warming(TM). Or was that the THC?
