Now that DADT is going the way of the dodo can we finally get to coed housing in the military?

Like in Starship Troopers.

Why we cling to these puritanical beliefs is vexing. We need to eliminate the taboo of female/male nudity. Both sexes, and all gender identities should be able to cohabitate.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x44381

One of the many problem areas that have been brought up and discussed regarding transition to a post-DADT military is whether or not to segregate. Straight men don't want to be in a position where those with possible sexual attraction to them are able to ogle their goods freely with prurient interest, whether those interests are acted on or not. Most men and women would not want to be in that position out of pure modesty, let alone the natural disgust one might feel toward being exposed to a sexual pervert.

DUmmies of course have all along been pooh-poohing those concerns derisively with statements that straights should just "get over it" and that "not everyone wants your body". Well, the natural extension to that would be to enact what the OP is talking about. If it's just some irrational, puritanical phobia that drives straights to want privacy, one that straights just need to get past, then why not extend things to include desegregation of opposite-sex service members? It would seem only logical by DU standards. Only DU standards have a certain flexibility one normally does not encounter in the real world.

Sounds like something someone would say arguing about DADT. Sorry, but that is nuts.

Turning it back on them. Like I said, Ginto is slick.

There is, in reality--not theory, a rampant problem of rape and sexual abuse in the military now.

It is not about a generalization of "hereto men" not being trustworthy. It is a reality that the military has allowed an environment that has lead to this problem. Cohabitation would likely exacerbate it.

Segregation isn't just about rape, you dumbass. It's about privacy and modesty.

27. No. Cohabitation would lead to understanding and decrease problems. As unity and understanding

always does. It's amazing how it works that way.

That's what the DUmmies have been saying, isn't it?

51. Race and gender are not the same issues.

Like I said, the culture in the military has lead to a serious problem of men raping women. That needs to be addressed before they are put in even closer proximity of each other. You claim that cohabitation will work to solve that problem. I am asking you to prove that.

B-b-but, you have been saying race and sexuality are the same when it comes to co-habitating. That military authority should force the issue until everyone gets over it and everything will be okey-dokey, right?

That was something I could not understand about the left's hatred of BSA. The BSA did not want to have freewheeling homos as scout masters. They also did not want hetero men being scout leaders for the Girl Scouts of America. No leftist has ever been able to explain the difference without calling me names.

Private: "Hey Doc. While I was taking a shower this morning, I noticed this ugly growth on my pecker. I'd like for you o take a look at it."

Corpsman: "Yeah, yeah, blah-blah-blah you've been to town and caught something."

Private: "No Doc. I just got transferred here last week and I haven't been off base since arriving."

Corpsman: "Well, let me have a look at ....OH MY GOD...that's an ugly one alright."

Private: "What is it Doc?"

Corpsman: "Well private, what you have there is the worst case of "Spontaneous San Francisco leech" I've ever seen."

Private: "Can you do something with it Doc?"

Corpsman: "Oh sure...we can either try to pull it off or we can try to burn it off with a torch.....but that might hurt a little bit."

Private: "What do you think is the best thing to do with it?"

Corpsman: "Burn it off....otherwise it'll just latch onto the next pecker it sees....which might be yours again."

Private: "OK, burn it off....and while you're doing that tell me how I caught it."

Corpsman: "You baited the hook with a nice worm....that's how."

Private: "Seriously Doc, How'd I get it?"

Corpsman: "Seriously private, just like I said. Every since they repealed DADT we've been plagued with what we call "San Francisco leeches". They're much worse than either bedbugs or body lice and it'll take an act of congress to get rid of them."

Private: "Doc, Any sure fire ways to prevent this from happening in the future?"

Corpsman: "Well, there's several things you can do like don't wear any form fitting clothes,...never wear anything colorful or fashionable.....and if that don't do it....don't ever shower again.

And maybe in 17 years you'll get your wish. Start appealing to the masses who are feeling less than the rest of society because of gender divided barracks. Funny, I never seem to hear about this "injustice" except on message boards with posts about DADT.

As an aside, the only people who seem to be calling for something similar are those who want to cowardly criticize the DADT repeal. They can join the pantheon of those on the right who love to make slippery slope arguments that never seem to play out.

Well, if everyone had to live all mixed together in platoon open bays with no walls, even in the shitters, it probably would cut out abuse because everything would be in front of everyone all the time, so there wouldn't be any 'One said this, one said that,' but I don't think anyone in their right mind wants to go there...so someone on DU probably would think it's a good idea.

UGH, you're bringing back memories of Advanced Camp at Ft. Riley, KS, some 33 years ago.  We girls (I was 19-junior year in college so yeah I was still a girl) had to live for those 9 weeks in a totally open bay barracks built during WWII I think and still being used then.  It was damn stressful to sit on a toilet in front of other girls.  I can't even begin to imagine how awful it would be to live like that in the real military.
Only a sick person would find this a palatable alternative, so I'm guessing lotsa DUmmies and other libs will be signing up soon for the "new Army" where they can "be anything they want to be" or something like that.  This whole subject is giving me the squicks.

Yep, I knew of two resident advisers at my college who were accused of rape.  One was removed from his position, but no other action was taken.  Another became a case of he said, she said. His accuser was another resident adviser, and the school said that the only thing the could do was make sure that they weren't in the same building.  I worked with both the guys  :thatsright:

But, lets be honest here, do we really want to give any young guys who may have a propensity towards that sort of thing the extra encouragement of naked women?  This is the same reason that I oppose co-ed bathrooms.  Most guys aren't going to do anything more than perhaps stare (which would be awkward), but it would be like laying a feast out for the criminally inclined.
