Well, I've held a kitchen knife  before and guess I chose not to stab somebody with it:

I heard a very interesting comment from a conservative radio guy on DADT
Local station I rarely listen to but tuned in to get local weather and traffic yesterday. They were discussing DADT and I heard 3 callers. All were adamantly opposed and most made grotesque comments not worth repeating here. But the 3rd caller was the most obnoxious and I was surprised to hear the host challenge him. He finally asked the guy "Do you believe that homosexuality is a choice?" And the guy said "Yes, definitely." So the host said "So if YOU wanted to, YOU could choose to be gay?" And the guy said "Well it's not a choice I would ever make but yes, some people do make this choice." Then he went on to quote some bible passage.

The host interrupted him and said "I'm going to ask you again. I don't think you understand what I am getting to here. If it is a choice, as you claim, why have you NEVER faced this as a personal decision? I mean, it seems like if it was indeed a choice, all of us could say well I thought about it but chose not to be gay."

The caller just froze. Didn't say a word. So the host then repeated that if homosexuality is a choice, all of us who have chosen to be straight should be able to claim a moment in our own lives when we faced the gay choice and turned it down. But we never hear these stories,. Instead we claim that those who are gay have made a choice that none of the rest of us ever remember facing.

Really blew me away.

It's hilarious that every time a DUmpmonkey like proud2BDUmb Anne Pritchett reports on the latest outrage from Rush, or Sean, or Beck, they have to put in a disclaimer explaining why they innocently heard the show. To do otherwise is to risk DUmp cred.

It's quite simple, really. I've never had to "choose not" to be a homosexual for the same reasons I've never had to "choose not" to be a rapist, or a child molestor, or engage in bestiality, or rob convenience stores, or kill people for money. It's because I find those pursuits to be morally repugnant and unnatural. If I wasn't guided by moral principles I could very easily choose any licentious behavior I wanted to seek satisfaction. I would become a pure stimulus-response creature who wouldn't care how my genitals were tickled as long as I reached orgasm.

Homosexuals lack that particular moral barrier just like rapists, necrophiliacs, child molestors, etc., lack their own. The only saving grace is that it generally occurs between two consenting adults, and because of that it is tolerated to a great degree. That's not enough for practitioners of homosexuality, though. They want it embraced, saluted, accepted as virtuous. That way, they don't have to dwell on their moral deficiencies or feel guilty.

I hope the DUmpmonkies are planning to attend a lot of funerals since this passed. All I'm saying as that once they come out of the closet they risk reprisals and it's going to give the military a huge black eye because of it. This is what the Dems want and I hope the gays are proud of what they have done and the unintended consequences of this.

I served before DADT.  There were gays serving and we usually knew who they were.  They didn't flaunt it and were left alone for the most part.  Seriously, I didn't and don't see how they were being repressed in any way.  I was approached by a couple of lesbos, but after a bit of discussion I was suddenly no longer very attractive to them.

Now that they can openly swish my concern is for the normal troops.  How much will they be expected to endure?  How will this affect morale and readiness?  How many normal troops will receive punishment or even discharge for following through on their natural instinct to coldcock a guy coming on to him?  Will the 'hate crime' bullshit become a reason for discharge on the DD214?  Will there be gay and normal barracks, mess halls, PT?

This issue was not thought through at all.  It was merely a knee jerk reaction to gay whining, over the top PC and passed by people who will never have to personally deal with the mess it leaves.

I've been saying this all along. They'll replace DADT with FTF, frag the fag. But they had to have it and now they've got it.

Any bets on this evolving into a convenient Get Out of Combat Free card where they get all the perks of enlisting without any of the risks?

Target!  If the terrorists found out that they had captured a ghey American in their actions, said captive would have their head sawed off in a heartbeat.

Are we sure she's not a mole? who the heck disses talk radio so much yet always seems to listen to it? I never listen to NPR nor have I ever listened to Air America, and all my favorite channels are programmed into the radio, so I never accidently pass by those stations.

IMHO, the repeal of DADT is the biggest gift to grifting trail lawyers in our history. I can hear the winding up of hundreds of private jet engines awaiting their class action ticks to file suits in WDC.

Mark my words.

I can see in increase in getting out of deployments for all kinds of reasons. Getting AIDS/HIV and if they get married then sent overseas with thier partners to countries that really do not like gays.

It's amazing that these people cannot keep their talking points sorted out for more than 5 minutes.

Well, that policy is sure to be attacked as homophobic discrimination. Where is the proof that an AIDS-riddled, limp-wristed, tutu-wearing fancy boy can't be effective? Maybe he isn't strong enough load those cannon thingies, but he could do, uh, choreography, or barracks feng shui. Lots of us remember that Corporal Klinger was a fine soldier.

If it was fought by the GLBT crowd they it would require the re-writing of of Status of Forces Agreements with every country where we train fight or garrison troops.

Not that an improbably mammoth task like that wouldn't stop the Rainbow Warriors from trying...as dutch said...this is about destroying the military as we know it.

I'd like to know if the "don't ask" portion has been repealed, or only the "don't tell." I'd bet money it's the latter.

All of it.  Adam can come into the recruiters office and play tonsil hockey with his boyfriend Steve while the recruiter is typing up the paperwork and there's not a damn thing the recruiter can say or do about it.

No Tx, what I meant was that the recruiter isn't likely to ask "are you a homosexual?", or have a form with that question (like in the old days). So "don't ask" hasn't been repealed. They like "don't ask." They just want to be able to "tell" it to anyone they damn well please, as well as do everything you just described.
