Title: Heads Up! Question for the Membership - Christmas Banner
Post by: Doc on December 18, 2010, 01:06:02 PM
The Admins have posted a "Merry Christmas" (and Happy Hanukkah) banners in the forums to honor the Holidays, as is quite apparent.......however, it appears that not all  are happy with it.

The following email message was sent to the Admins (anonymously).  It should be noted that this email can easily come from a non-member, simply by clicking on the "email the Administrator" link on the Home Page......in short, anyone could have sent it, not necessarily a member:

Hi,

The banner at the top of your forum is offensive and should thus read "Happy Holidays from the Conservative Cave". This is less offensive and more inclusive to those who don't celebrate Christmas. The only other option I can see if putting a banner up for every single holiday, however this would be a waste of time thus you should use Happy Holidays instead.

Please think of others over this holiday season.

Happy Holidays

Considering the season, and the "Spirit" thereof, I thought that y'all might want to weigh in on the issue.  Let us know what you think

Since Christmas is an official American holiday as well as being a religious one, I am sure the complaint comes from a DUmmie of some ilk.  Perhaps even the one that was banned twice recently.

I think it is a very nice banner and fits the season.

As far as I'm concerned whoever wrote and sent that email needs to take the stick out of their ass!! They can kiss my lily white ass, too!! While I don't mind recognizing certain holidays or groups, their complaint is beyond ridiculous. Don't like it?? Don't come here. :bigbird:

Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukkah !!!

Now, bugger off.....

Too bad.

I like it.

If you don't want to see "Merry Christmas", come back after Christmas.

You would think that Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas would just about cover it for a judeo-christian nation ...

you would think.

I don't celebrate Christmas and I think it's fine. I'd be fine if it was the only one here, though thanks Thor!

As for the person who wrote that message: How bout a nice big glass of shut the **** up.

As for the admins: leave it as it is.

Judging from the email address, the person that sent the email is not even a member here. Were they a member, I MIGHT take into consideration their complaint. However...... would I do anything about it?? Doubtful. One must bear in mind that some 75-80% of this country are Christians. Another smaller percentage are Jewish. After that, it would be too tedious to address every particular belief. I don't think that we're so petty & closed minded that we can't accommodate a majority here. IF any member has a complaint, feel free to address it either via PM or here. BTW, Mjolnir is Asatru, so consider that for a moment....  :loser:

Keep them both.  I only know for certain that one of my friends on Facebook celebrates Hanukkah, and I always wish her a Happy Hanukkah, and she does the same with Christmas for me.

I dropped the ball on Hanukkah.  :(  It's over and done with already. Next year, it more coincides with the Christmas Holidays.

2010:   December 1-9

2011:   December 20-28

2012:   December 8-16

2013:   November 27-December 5

2014:   December 16-24

2015:   December 6-14

Don't fret it. From what I've heard it even caught some of our Jewish friends off-guard. When it first arrived I saw a Happy Hanukkah ad on FOXNews and said to myself "Isn't it a bit early?"

I don't understand the whole notion a being offended by other people celebrating whatever they want to. Other ethnicities doing their thing don't offend me. I go and join in some of them! I say to the person who wrote it. If you are offended by freedom you are in the wrong country so get the hell out!  :bigbird:

My best friend's boyfriend is Jewish, and she was freaking out around Thanksgiving about how little time she had to go shopping for Hannukah.

I will get upset if CC starts acknowledging Muslim holidays.  Until then, carry on.

I celebrate Christmas, and therefore say Merry Christmas to everyone, as I believe the season should be merry.   If someone said Happy Hanukkah to me I would not be offended.

Seriously need to find something else to complain about.

This happens every time of year
I don't know what to do
When I'm feelin all cheery
And I wanna give a greeting
Cuz I'm in the holiday mood

And I go scrambling in my brain
Tryin to guess what they celebrate
Then I give it all up and I cover my bases
And this is what I say, well I say

Merry Krishne
Merry Krishne
Happy Chrismakwanzakah

As for the letter that TVDOC cites, said individual can always go to another site.  I'm all for Merry Christmas.

I don't think this season should be about scorn and contempt, but this idiot started it.

**** you, sir or madam,

You're a panty waist. A lower life form in my estimation that feels you need to have your hands in the various regulation cookie jars at all times. You didn't even include your name when sending "It offends me!" message to our admins. A cowardly act so as not to take responsibility for your actions, or recieve any kind of reply back/recognition at all. Eat the peanuts out of my shit you namby pamby, kumbayaa, inbreeding mother ****er.

Alright...I'm over it now. I say keep the banners.
