The changes in guidelines for nighttime raids, made in consultation with the White House, are intended to expand protections for civilians and increase coordination with higher-level Afghan government officials—without putting new obstacles in the way of the Special Operations units that carry out the raids, according to officials who have reviewed the new order.

WASHINGTON—The U.S. military command in Afghanistan has revised secret guidelines for nighttime raids, placing additional safeguards on kill-or-capture missions that are cited in a new White House strategic review as an effective tool in countering the Taliban. A senior U.S. official said the new directive by Gen. David Petraeus, commander of coalition forces, was done "out of necessity" to ease tensions with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The nighttime raids, which can imperil civilians, have been a sore point with Afghan leaders.

In a word, no. Only endangers our troops.

In a word, no. Only endangers our troops.
That's exactly what I thought. I don't understand.
We should endanger the ENEMY, not our troops. Sickening.

Only endangers our troops.
Maybe if we pulled out of this "war" then no one would be endangered.

Get it thru your thick skull, the civilized world has been endangered for 1,400 years by these Muslim idiots.

You mean pull out of your Lord and Master's "war?" - Lord Zero's war?
You do realize you libs own that war now? It isn't Bush's war, it's yours. Zero made all sorts of grandiose promises to end this and end that, but he decided to hang onto this particular war. Care to speculate why that is? Carefully think about your response before you do.
Regarding this comment from the article here:
In the directive, Gen. Petraeus underlined the importance of coordinating the operations with the Afghans, making it harder for Mr. Karzai and others to argue they weren't involved in the decision-making, officials said.
A senior Obama administration official said the changes made by Gen. Petraeus were "a way of responding to Karzai's concerns" about the raids without giving into his demands to end the operations outright, but said the issue was likely to remain a sore point in relations.
First of all, I have sincere doubts that the directive was entirely Gen. Petraeus's. There is no doubt in my mind that the armchair warriors in the Oval Orifice had their hand in it too. Oh, Petraeus surely came up with a draft, but then the hacks in Washington got their shithooks in it.
When you implement directives that require your people to "coordinate", you hamper them from doing their jobs. Pure and simple. Petraeus knows that.
When are the ROE going to change to also reflect this new "directive?"
I've got a bad feeling about this.

Well we certainly haven't accomplished much in regards to the Muslim extremists anyway. Stay over there won't help things.

Funny, I seem to recall that most of al Quaida has been eradicated.
Here's one of your Lord and Master's Secrets, as touted by the All Barack Channel just a little over a year ago:
All Barack Channel (http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/president-obamas-secret-100-al-qaeda-now-afghanistan/story?id=9227861)
Are you saying he's a liar?
Furthermore, it's pretty well known that the Taliban's hideouts have been eradicated, especially in their former strongpoints. Sure, it's tough going, but our willingness to adopt flexible ways of warfare are having an impact.
Or do you subscribe to the Harry Reid meme that "The war is lost?" You do realize he's called "Dingy Harry" for a reason, don't you?

Well, whaddya suggest we do? Sing a few verses of, "Kum-bah-ya," and give 'em a big old hug?
Lemme clue you in on a little secret here, scooter--I'm beginning to think that you're probably late teens/early 20's, very limited in terms of travel or exposure to the world, because you're thinking that the rest of the world thinks just like we do.
Newsflash--it ain't, and they don't. So while you're trying to wrap your mind around why they aren't all warm and fuzzy cause you're trying to grovel and appease, they're trying to wrap a nice sharp blade around your neck because you're a ****ing infidel who deserves to either die or live as a second-class citizen, with death being at their whim.
Beginning to understand the picture?
