Woohooo - Say goodbye to Omaha Steaks, Mr. Beck.

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201012160028

This morning, Omaha Steaks announced that they were removing their ads from Glenn Beck's program (emphasis added):

Omaha Steaks buys large units of national television advertising during the holiday season. This year, we bought a package of advertising through the Fox Network. We did not specifically request to be included on the Glenn Beck program. As part of our contract, the Omaha Steaks ads run in a variety of time slots throughout the day.

We took your comments regarding the Glenn Beck Program to heart. After further review and careful consideration, we have decided to pull all advertising from Glenn Beck programming effective December 20th, 2010. Unfortunately, due to advertising cancellation policies, we were bound to continue possible ad placements through Sunday, December 19th.

At Omaha, we greatly value the loyalty and support of our customers, fans and followers and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Omaha Steaks are overpriced, anyways. Perhaps we all should contact them and reference that since they pulled their advertising from Glenn Beck, that we will no longer buy their products?? I'm not a HUGE Beck fan, but seriously, this is a crock of shit.

I'm not a fan of Glenn Beck, but he sure as heck has more people who watch his show as opposed to detractors, and I think Omaha Steaks should be told that.

I wonder what their cut off date is for ordering steaks to be delivered by Christmas.  I'm guessing that orders have to be placed by the 20th.  :-)

It makes no difference, they will be replaced by another sponsor and I doubt the ad rates will change as long as the ratings stay on average.

Write/call/e-mail your congressman and ask for them to pass a bill stating that you can't buy Omaha steaks or other high dollar meats with foodstamps.....that ought to hurt 'em.....and Omaha steaks too.

I'm sure there are hundreds of companies ready to take Omaha Steaks place.

Dumb...dumb....dumb.

I would bet that they have more customers who watch Beck than customers who don't watch.

I'd tell Omaha Steaks that they canceled their advertising with people who actually EAT animals.  How many of those people celebrating this are "vegan" or "vegetarian" and not buying this product in the first place?

It's their loss.  I'd never order from Omaha Steaks anyway.  If I want a steak, I'll go to our local market and get one.

Years ago, the ex in-laws and my parents would both send us "care packages" from Omaha Steaks. They felt sorry for us not being able to by the midwestern beef we both grew up on.

It's been years since I ordered any. Got too expensive to justify the cost, and it got easier to buy decent beef around here.

My mother in law orders them for us at Christmas time. They call here every so often. I will mention Beck to them the next time they call. They are way to pricey.

Dumb is exactly right Deb. Beck has about 2-3 million viewers. Why would a company not want to reach that many "potential" customers. :mental:

Amazing. I agree it is a crock. I just got a box from Omaha Steaks yesterday as from time to time I used to send them to my mom and dad, and from time to time they would send some to us. I shall contact them and tell them what a crock it is and that I can take my business somewhere else too. To be honest more and more Ive been taking my business to Allen Brothers (http://www.allenbrothers.com/) steaks anyways. I think Allen Bros is even more 'premium' than Omaha. But this is the last straw.

We sent my dad and my husband's aunt Omaha Steaks last year. We didn't this year.  I had an order for my husband's aunt ready to go then decided on something else right before I paid for it.

As a bit of Irony here. I know where the original owner of Omaha Steaks lives and its his son that is running the show now. I don't know the exact apartment number for the location but I am willing to bet the the postal service would get any letter there to the building and I know the mail is handled by only one person there during the day so getting the letters to ol' dad might have some effect. Then again that it just might tie up the office that handles the mail and that would work too since I also know that the people working there now are a bunch of asshats .

There is thing called the Internet - where you can do this search thingy - and I guaran-freaking-tee you, you can find local custom grass fed, hormone-free beef that is CHEAPER than Omaha cow-shit Steaks.
I buy the grass fed, drug-free beef from Corvallis Oregon from a local butcher for about 20% less than Omaha and the quality is far better.
I have eaten Omaha steaks before - meh!

I always thought that Omaha Steaks were overpriced.  Way overpriced.  Now, their prices will go up to compensate for the lost revenue of their ads being removed from Beck's show.  Plus, if I want great beef, I go up the Northway to Oscar's off Exit 23 in Warrensburg.  It's about an hour or so north of me.  ('Course, a chain butcher just opened up less than a mile from me, so I just might have to go check them out.)

Overpriced ain't the word for it.  I looked at their choices of ribeyes...boneless ones, 6-10 oz steaks for $132.00?  AYFKM?  Over $35/lb PLUS shipping?  And no, you're not the best steak I've ever eaten.  Not by a longshot.

Newsflash, Omaha Steaks--I can get 28-day dry aged, BONE-IN ribeyes (20-24 oz each) for less than $20/lb.  No shipping, taste as good as anything you've got.

Same here. If I want a top-notch ribeye, there are two butchers near me who have marvelous, super-high-quality, aged beef.  Why would I want Omaha Steaks?

Now, after they've shown their lib-allegiance, I wouldn't eat one on a bet.

Bone in is the way to go, Spark, you know it. Oh, ye gods, it's morning and all I can think of right now is a nice, grilled, 6-7-inch-thick, rare ribeye, with creamed spinach on the side, a salad with crisp cucumbers, radishes, maybe a few hearts of palm and artichoke hearts, fresh crusty bread, and a baked potato with sour cream and chives. And a bottle of chianti (I like a neutral, non-bitter wine).

Thanks for letting me know what I'm making for dinner tomorrow night.

Maybe not 6-7 inches thick, but certainly 1 1/2 or 2 inches.  And yes, BBQing on the grill in 20-degree weather while having to take your beer INSIDE the house periodically so it doesn't freeze...ah, nice.

As if any of the DUmmies can afford to buy ohama steaks anyhow.  Besides, aren't most of them vegans?

My one experience with ohama steaks was when I got a gift certificate from somebody and was redeeming it.  Steaks weren't bad considering they were free, but I wouldn't have paid that for them when I can get USDA Prime at Costco.

For the next 2 years I was bombarded with e-mail advertising as well as direct mailing pieces.  Once they get your info, they don't let up on pimping their products.

I want to get this right. A steak/meat company is bowing to pressure from leftist concerns that have a much higher percentage of NON meat eaters?  My guess would be a three to one meat eater ratio for conservatives (because we are awesome). This would be like me calling Tofu Inc. and demanding they no longer advertise on The Munch's show (hat tip to GoBucks).

I have ordered from Omaha a couple of times on one of their specials. I have been getting e-mails from them for the past few months every few days. I shall call to complain and send in an unsubscribe to them. Truth is that their meat does not match their hype.

I do remember when The Drunk Rhodes on AA ran that skit shooting president Bush and learned that HP advertised on her show.  We were buying lots of high end testing equipment. I called our rep and told him I was going for quotes on our secondary vendors on their equipment. Less than twenty minutes later the regional VP for HP called me and assured that their advertising was being yanked.

IMHO, poor move by pissing off current customers to appease unlikely customers. The old one in the hand is worth two in the bush.

From Broadcasting & Cable.com: (http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/440766-Cable_News_Ratings_Fox_News_Has_Highest_Rated_Year_In_Network_History.php)

Quote
FNC topped the competition in all dayparts: morning (1 million total viewers, 340,000 viewers in news' target demographic of 25-54-year-olds); total day (1.2 million viewers, 323,000 in the demo); primetime (2.2 million viewers, 551,000 in the demo). Those numbers mark year-to-year demo gains of 14% in the morning, 16% in total day and 10% in primetime (Mon-Sun), according to Nielsen.

FNC saw double-digit gains for all of its programs. Year-to-year, Glenn Beck is up 96% among total viewers (2.3 million) and 148% in the demo (612,000). Special Report with Bret Baier posted gains of 25% among total viewers (2 million) and 33% in the demo (454,000). The O'Reilly Factor is up 13% among total viewers (3.3 million) and 27% (801,000) in the demo, marking its tenth consecutive year as the No. 1 cable news program.

Yeah, I'm sure Fox is ****ing terrified over losing a shitty-meat-by-mail account. Just like Roger Sterling losing Lucky Strike on Mad Men, they're running away to hide in a hotel room and drink themselves into oblivion, right?!?!?

Done!!

I wouldn't buy a damn thing from them anyway as I grow my own, this is still absolute BS to listen to a bunch of anti free speech, leftist pukes!

Beck has recently gone a little to religious for me lately, but the facts he has brought out into the open over the Left's organizations influencing our government needed to be brought out into the open!

DUmmies can't stand the fact he shines a light on their socialist/communist agendas!

ETA:

Besides, from what I hear, Allen Bros has them beat hands down! Still, mine are better and they don't cost me $30/lb!

Note to the lurkers:

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the reason they stopped advertising on Beck is that they couldn't afford the new higher advertising rates.

With success comes the increased privilege of hawking your wares where the most people will see it.

I checked on their site and their delivery time is 5 days or so.  That  means that stopping their advertising on the 19th still gets them their Christmas orders. Suck it DUmmies.
