N.J. proposes rules to make it harder for workers who quit or are fired for misconduct to collect unemployment

TRENTON — It could soon be more difficult for some unemployed to collect jobless benefits in New Jersey.

The state Labor Department has proposed rule changes that would tighten unemployment eligibility for workers who quit or who are fired for misconduct.

The changes create a tiered system for misconduct cases that would prohibit the payment of unemployment benefits or extend the wait period before benefits are paid.

A public hearing on the proposal is set for Friday.

1. More slippery slope legislation to keep from paying people

money they are rightfully entitled to.

4. I quit a job and got it

Had good reason though :)

Apparently they wanted him to work or something.

I think the word "productive" was even floated once or twice.

Sounds pretty cruel to me.

Probably for one day.  And I bet he didn't even make it through his full shift before leaving.

For all the newcomers here you need to know the background of TSS.

He has 3 or 4 children by 3 women/wives,has moved between California and Ohio several times supposedly in search of work that never materializes which is of course not his fault.

He has posted sob story after sob story hoping for the DUmp to send him money and that has been successful.
Once posted how terrible it was that he had to shoot is little daughters cat because he couldn`t afford to take it to a vet and how he was forced to lie about it because of the terrible Bush economy that was to blame for all his woes.

He has backed off the woe is me,no no I don`t want anyones help crap in the last year but you won`t find much of a bigger piece of shit then him.

Wow. So, in other words, he fits right in the DUmp. :-)

So this means in New Jersey you can just say to hell with it, stop going to work, and sign yourself up for unemployment compensation? Or you can shoot up with dope, go to work, fail your drug test, and automatically start drawing checks? So how is it that New Jersey can afford this?

I had always thought UE insurance did not apply when you quit or got fired. Maybe it varies from state to state.

I believe that most states UE is only for those get fired, unless there's good cause for quitting like violations of ADA

In Idaho, if you quit or get fired for cause, you can generally kiss your unemployment good bye until you earn 8 times what your weekly amount would be and then get laid off!

There are exceptions of course, like medical, or family emergencies. But you get fired for a good reason, you're ****ed, as it should be! You fail a drug test for a potential job while collecting unemployment, same thing!

But of course my state is 99% Red blooded conservative repubs! Makes a huge difference in where ya live!

I think CT was pretty strict, had to be a mass layoff due to business conditions.  You couldn't just quit in a huff, or goof off all day and expect to get it.  One change they made, though...they took any discomfort out of it.  The firing company fills out the forms, then one just calls in, pushes buttons, and there you go.  Check in the mail.

Anyway:  CARL, I DID NOT CATCH THE SHOOTING KITTENS PART OF STRAIGHTSTORY.  What????

$20K a year property tax bills, for starters.

And I guess I'm just exposing my ignorance of UE due to lack of use, but I always thought that if you quit or were fired for cause you couldn't draw UE anyway.

Currently Kalifornia is borrowing 42 million dollars each day to pay UE benefits. So goes Kali, so goes the USA.

I actually have some (somewhat dated) experience with this process in NJ, representing an employer.  The initial denial of the UE claims in terminations for cause was really fairly common, however there was a rehearing/appeal process structure that let the employee keep going back again and again until the examiners got tired of seeing his or her mug and just gave them the benefits.  All they had to do was be persistent, not right.

Wow. That is epic FAIL. :mental:
And the goons keep telling us, the economy is picking up. Really?! ::) Is it now?  :whatever:
Isn't that "borrowed" money? Doesn't that have to get paid back somehow?

Well, down here in Red State Hell, very few homeowners pay more than $3K property tax, and no income tax, so we just don't get all those great benefits.
The government doesn't take good care of us. We're defenseless, so corporations keep moving headquarters and new plants in here to take advantage. That's why so many people down here are desperate to find a way to move north, or at least dream of retiring to Michigan.

Obama's regime is working day and night to stop that.
