Title: Dear Lurkers, If raising the cost of an activity doesn't diminish that activity
Post by: SSG Snuggle Bunny on December 15, 2010, 02:51:20 PM
tell Skinner to turn DU into a subscription forum that charges regular fees.

Surely DU will keep the same amount of traffic if not gain traffic because the increase in revenue will allow him to add features.

This is your chance to put your economic theories (and your own damn money) where you dribbling mouths are.

Show us how higher, automated fees generate additional revenue.

Or you could just shut the **** up, mind your own damn business and/or throw yourselves into a tree shredder.

I vote for the latter! Maybe they could at least perform somethin' useful as mulch!

Is there an "All of the above" option?

Anyway, I know this sort of thing all too well. There was a forum run by a narcissistic, power-hungry moron, but the other people (even the mods) were alright, and even the forum itself was decent enough. This guy would ban people for, among other meaningless reasons, simply being registered to (what he thought was) a rival forum, myself included. Over the years, the forum continued on with relatively little trouble. Then one day, for no apparent reason, he decided to make the forum fee-based.

The forum died that day, and with few exceptions, the comments about it were all glad that it was gone.

Would you actually want to eat anything from a garden that was fertilized with "DUmmie mulch"?

I'd sooner move to the middle of the Nevada desert where all the nuclear bombs were tested.  It would be "safer".

Apparently it involves some mystical process too complex for our Conservative brains to grasp, because if that was true, all the sin taxes on cigarettes should be giving a big fat green light to lighting up, and State and local governments would all be rolling in dough from the additional tax revenue.

Yeah, I don't understand how the magic works on that whole 'Doesn't diminish that activity' thing either.

So, if we tax pot, more people will use it and we can balance the budget, pay off the national debt and get all that other free stuff....right?.....right?......right :whatever:

Just to add a little more realism .... how about Skinner telling them what the charge will be then adding another half of that cost so those who can't afford to use the forum can.

You MUST think of bobbo the hobo.

Taxing cigarettes, alcohol, and other PC sins curbs their consumption.  However, and this is where the super scary smart liberal economic theory comes in, taxing investment and jobs actually increases their occurrence.  Conversely, subsidizing unemployment makes less unemployment while subsidizing productive industry decreases that industry.

It is really weird but I think the left has proven how well this works over the last four years.

Yeah. Get high, eat cheetos and we all get free stuff. Because of course, we will use some else's money. (DUmmy rant.)

I can give an example, I used to spend a lot of money getting my hair done, I gave that up and started to go to a place where you're in and out, the price was like $10 each at that time, well they raised their prices bigtime, the last time we went there a few months ago it was like $40 for both of us, then add the tip in, it came to almost $50, hubby said screw it, and I'm back to using the Hair Trimmer on his hair, and I'm just letting mine grow out and will trim it myself.

Would you believe after I typed that I searched the Flowbee and it led to this, and I just bought it, strange but it must've been the last 1 in stock because it says it's unavailable, it's supposed to ship tomorrow and it'll pay for itself in 2 haircuts:

Wow, what a coincidence! Hope it works. If it doesn't you haven't lost much. Flowbee was a classic, weird TV infomercial, in the same league with the Popeil Pocket Fisherman, Ginsu knives, Chia Pet, and Veg-O-Matic.

You need to exchange it for a genuine Flowbee. Or, if your hair is long enough, I suppose you could put it in a Veg-A-Matic for a trim.

I'm returning it tomorrow, I just ordered a cheaper hair trimming set from Amazon. I knew I should've tried this out on hubby 1st. I looked at the Flowbee again and read the reviews, someone pointed out that it won't work that well on thick hair, I have thick, wavy and curly hair.

Really, truly did your hair get whacked up?  So sorry.  Be sure and leave a review where you bought it.

The original Flowbee looks like it works nicely, but it's not for long hair.

I was going to but hubby got stuck putting a Christmas gift together for my Cousin's Son so I got impatient and decided to try it on myself. It actually looks pretty good from the trimmer, short but good.

Now as long as we are talking hair, what do I use on my Maine Coon Cat that gets mats.??

It costs--grab your heart--$125.00 to clip a Coon Cat in this area.  They have to receive general  Anastasia and sleep this off.

I have taken the beast to a few cat grooming shops in the area, but now the only places I can find are 50 miles away, all the local ones when I give my name and they had groomed my cat in the past, tell me that they no longer do Maine Coons. Strange, I wonder why why.

Being an American raised on the theory that duck tape solves all, suggested to Hubby we tape the claws in duck tape to use a pet clipper on her.

Hubby reacted not too well to the idea, what about his teeth.   Well we could put a sock on his head--sort of like blindfolding a horse to lead them from a burning barn.

Hubby went off for a few hours, sat at a local bar and lamented the day he ever met me.

No freaking way was I going to do this with his help.  He made the last appointment to get the cat a lion cut and now that the cat needs it again keeps an evil eye on me,--no socks or duck tape on HIS cat.

Cats do not get along with vacuum cleaners, I do not think this divice would work too well on him.

So what now do I do now that the male will not allow either of us to comb or brush him, I tried cutting the mats off but Hubby had a shit fit that I was going to cut into the cats skin.

When I married this man 20 years ago I had no idea that he even liked pets.     Now he seems to like them better then he does me.

And anyway, it was all Ballygrl's fault.

Vesta, try a rubber pet brush. My Australian Shepherd gets mats when she switches from her summer coat to winter coat, and a rubber pet brush really helps a lot.  Plus, she loves being brushed with it.

I know exactly what you mean!  When ours gets a gnarly old mat, you can't touch her for awhile.  But after a long time she wants to be rid of it and will just about beg to get us to get it off.  She's not a full registered coon, but a descendant with hair not quite as long as your cat's.

She is afraid of ANY loud noise and will run and hide.  We shoulda named her scardy cat  :-)

I have worn my hair very short like in the youtube video I posted for years.  Wash and wear with just a comb-through was my favorite aspect of it short.  You might like how easy that style of hair is to manage.  I also have wavy hair, and that cut made it so much easier to care for.

Don't be surprised if some women hit on you.  Speaking from experience from up here in the northern MN hinterlands, where the population is sparse and the pickings are slim (so they just didn't know that I just liked my hair short).

Well, twice now in the last year or so, it happened again, so I am growing it a bit longer - going for chin length with bangs.   :hyper:

I've had my hair really short for years on and off, I love not having to go crazy styling it, just put some mousse in it, blow dry it and go. LOL, I know what you're saying when it's very short, but I'm totally a girly girl, make-up on, eye brows done, a few pieces of jewelry on including a wedding ring, and nails painted, no way am I mistaken for a "butch".
