God, these people ****ing suck. Updated at 12:50 PM
DeMint to Force Readings of Bills
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) will force readings of both the New START Treaty and the 2011 omnibus spending bill on the Senate floor, a move that could eat up over 70 hours of the remaining lame-duck Congress, The Hill reports.
"DeMint's maneuver will no doubt cause a headache for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) as he figures out how to fit all of the remaining legislative items into the waning days of the lame duck. Lawmakers had been set to leave Washington on Friday, but that deadline appears flimsy at this point. Reid had sought to avoid working the week of the Christmas holiday, as lawmakers had done last year, and has now threatened work after the holidays if necessary."
White House statement: "This is a new low in putting political stunts ahead of our national security, and it is exactly the kind of Washington game-playing that the American people are sick of."

...and find out it's about a Republican.
Thank you.
Someone is trying to get a following again with his rage. :whatever:

I was hoping to scroll down and see Alan Grayson. Now that would have been entertainment!
I applaud Demint for this. It's about time they read the ****ing bills. Don't want to read them? Don't make them 2,000 pages long packed full of bullshit. Or else don't apply for a job that requires reading. Simple.
-
I'm thinking Cristie can make room for DeMint in my bromance fantasies.
-
We need to get them to enact legislation that requires a bill to stand on its own. There should be no piggy back rides for anything.

I don't know why everyone thinks Christie is such hot stuff. He's a solid fiscal Republican, yes, but he's no conservative.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie warned his fellow Republicans Monday that they may be “overreacting†to the issues presented by planned construction of a mosque near the site of the World Trade Center attacks.
Christie said he worried that some Republicans may be painting "all of Islam" with the brush of terrorism amid the swirling controversy about the Ground Zero-area mosque.

Wouldn't work. Any future Congress could just repeal it.
It would probably be more effective for the House and Senate to change their internal rules to require standalones--those rules are, in some ways, much harder to roll back than statutes.
-
White House statement: "This is a new low in putting political stunts ahead of our national security, and it is exactly the kind of Washington game-playing that the American people are sick of."
Better read the bill before passing it than passing it and then finding out what is in it.
-
I want to see every damn dilatory tactic possible employed. This--the reading--is a great one.
Every Senator who opposes this crap should make a motion to refer the matter to a committee (can this be done? anyone know?). They should ask for a gazillion quorum calls and have senators deliberately absent and sent for (but actually available). How about umpty-ump motions to adjourn? What else can be done to bring the Senate to a screeching halt? Because the good guys need to pull out all the stops.

DeMint is totally moving up on my list of people I want to run for President.

As far as I'm concerned, no bill should ever be voted on until it is read in it's entirety on the floor! If that were the case, they'd still be readin' the ObwanaCare turd instead of thinkin' of new ways to rape the taxpayer!

27. And they need to DEMAND that cameras be around for this.
Where are the "hastily called news conferences" now? Are we ever going to go on offense? Or are we just gonna be the ones reacting all the time?

5. This is a prime example of what is wrong with the Democratic party. The message should be
the repubs are playing politics with our national security. If enough of the Dems went on camera, sent out press releases - it just might make it to the msm on other channels besides Msnbc.
It's time for these assholes to be "Dixie-Chicked".
This is bullshit.
Well, we are in agreeement about the bullshit, just not on the "this."
:mental:
Yes, yes, PLEASE demand cameras! You actually imagine that your people are the ones who will come out looking good?! After November? DeMint will end up looking like Mr. Smith from the movie (although he won't be doing the reading and this isn't a filibuster). And the name and face ID he'd get for 2012? Priceless.
Hold that thought...Yes, absolutely, what am I thinking, of course cameras will help you, Reid should take your advice immediately. Right. Oh I am so scared of this idea.

Ballygrl, you genius, what a find!!! :lmao:
I just went over to The Hill, and read the comments after the article where Gibbs is blathering about "a new low." They're rich, you should go over and see. Sample:
More laser focus on jobs from the White House.
BY LaserFocus on 12/15/2010 at 13:52
Gibbs you are still mad at that young republican shaking you down for your lunch money in Junior High School.
BY Tony on 12/15/2010 at 14:01
Obama called us the enemy , remember Gibbs. With that statement in mind, taking a close look at his treaties with foreign governments seems like a wise and prudent course of action.
BY Mike on 12/15/2010 at 13:22
No, 'Herr Goebbels' (I meant Gibbs): the real low occurred when Comrade Obama was elected and you became 'propaganda' minister.

H5 for finding that, BG!

How 'bout we give him the WILLIE award instead? :-)
-
The Omnibus bill is the equivalent of an evicted tenant ripping all the copper out of the apartment before leaving, plugging the sinks and toilet so they overflow, and dropping a duce in the middle of the living room floor. Anything to derail it is welcome in my book.
As for Pitt -
- that 24 business hour comment pushed him up a notch in my book. :-)

Wait, whoa, what?
The spiralling hawk primitive says "it's no wonder Americans don't trust Republicans."
Huh?
Americans trust the political party that lost the House in the last election, and came perilously close to losing the Senate, too?
Americans vote for people they don't trust?
What exactly is it, the spiralling hawk primitive is saying here?
I think what he's saying is.....the primitives themselves, and themselves alone, don't trust Republicans.

I am feeling NO pain at this point. I think my nose is still stuffed up but I don't even care.

Remember, Will, that Johnny Slash changed the name of his band from "Open 24 Hours" to "Open 48 Hours" because it was twice as good.
If we are not evolving we are dying.

Stupid like that should be painfull but I repete myself and others here. WE should post all the screen caps we have of how many times the Dems pulled something out of thier asses like this to stop Reagan and Bush 1 and 2 from getting what they wanted done.

And the DUmmies/liberals say they stand for America? How do they stand for America when bills aren't read and the contents endanger/affect the American people? :banghead:
