Democratic Underground Responds to Righthaven Copyright Troll Lawsuit

"...Democratic Underground -- represented by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Fenwick & West LLP, and attorney Chad Bowers -- was sued by Righthaven on August 10 for a five-sentence excerpt of a Las Vegas Review-Journal news story that a user posted on the forum, with a link back to the Review-Journal website.

Democratic Underground, a political message forum, refused to be intimidated by Righthaven’s action. They retained counsel and responded with a counterclaim that joined Righthaven’ affiliate and funder, Stephens Media, LLC (publisher of the Review-Journal), and laid bare the numerous defects not only in Righthaven’s claims, but in its business model itself. Not surprisingly, Righthaven now wants out—so badly, in fact, that it has moved to voluntarily dismiss its claim with prejudice in order to avoid a decision on the merits. However, Righthaven pleads to be let off the hook for Democratic Underground's fees and costs defending the lawsuit...blah, blah, blah continued at linky......

Go free speech!  I think ?

9. Yeah Skinner! What DU is doing is what has been needed in this country for a long time. It's called guts. It's called fighting back against the very enemy of free speech.
In that case, you may be fighting that imposter occupying the White Mosque very soon when Net Neutrality takes over. That action is against free speech. Glad you're on board DUmmie.

137. are these
the same wingnuts/baggers who've brought this same sort of action against the Drudge report and the Denver Post? Sounds like intimidation or an extortion attempt to me.Sounds like some faction of the wingers/bagger have decided that despite their recent supposed electoral successes their message is not that popular so legal intimidation is the only way to reinforce their message- which is don't tell the truth about us or we'll sic one of the despised, a lawyer, on you. Speaking for my own part I'd be sure that the readers here will be more than happy to help with legal costs even at this season in this economy.

Just for the record DUmmies, the RightHaven group, and their attorneys are closely connected to Obama and his 2008 campaign.  You'll be hard pressed to find a copyright troll, and a bunch of trial lawyers that have any relationship to the "Teabaggers"........but you're welcome to prove it to me.......

Further for the record, the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), is closely allied with the Landmark Legal Foundation, which, ironically is a "right-wing" group......imagine that.....a bunch of "wingers" actually defending DU's free speech, a right that they don't even grant to their members.......

The Stupid is very very strong at the DUmp.

If it could be harnessed as an energy source, it would eclipse the sun.
