What an idiot.
I find it hard to feel bad for this kid. He knew better. Did he honestly think he would have survived?
What I want to know is how the kid was able to get on the plane with all the "security" vehicles running around on the runway. Unless things are different in North Carolina.

I've flown out of Raleigh a few times (it's a relatively small airport). Not familiar with the terminal at Charlotte at all. The TSA goons at RDU are a pain but other than that, it doesn't look like a very intimidating or secure building.

That happened about 40 minutes away from me in the inner city. Something's weird with this story. :mental:

Getting a job with one of the airport catering companies is easy... Sky Chefs is a big one. The pay is crap, but it gets you access to the inside of the airport. I can't think of anything else a 17-year-old is qualified to do. I think insurance requires that even the maintenance and trash people be older than 18.

Just how many of us adults know the mechanics of a wheel well on any kind of plane.???
This is akin of a kid climbing into a garbage truck to travel 5 miles. He has no idea about the compacting ability's ---he just wants a ride.

Evil,-- this is because you are educated, not on drugs since you were 9 years old and have the ability to look around an see what is going on.
Have you any idea of the number of kids in this country never get to go to school as their parents travel about the country.
How about the kids that are so called Home Schooled by parents with a 7 grade education. Reason is often religion but the large amount is so the kids will not tell what is going on in their home.
Evil-- today things are going on with in a mile or two that we cannot imagine, drives us nuts to find the nice family down the street has had 2 daughters kept for 10 years in the cellar to be sex slaves to their father.
Why this 17 year old boy climbed into a tire well----notice that adults have tried that also----has to be some kind of desperation that leads to this.
I see this as a desperate attempt to escape horror and terror. Age of a person does not mean that they awake on the day they turn 18 and suddenly from out of the blue they are expected begin to think as an adult.----
Takes time to go from child to adult, and this is the parents most important resonciblity---to see to it the child is ready to become responsible for themselves when the wake up as an adult.

This scenario actually happens all the time, and we just don't hear about it. Particularly at POE airports like LAX and JFK where international flights arrive from third-world countries. People stow away in landing gear wells, without a thought that not only is it minus 40 degrees at cruising altitude, but the wheelwells aren't pressurized, and they will die a relatively slow, painful death from asphyxiation and on arrival they are just a frozen corpse.
At these airports, approaches are typically from out to sea, so the gear is lowered over the water........the bodies just fall out and wash up somewhere, or are in many cases just never found.

Why don't you go volunteer down at the soup kitchen? And regale the other lunatics coming through the chow line with your wit and your imagination?

Well, vesta, my dear, you are wrong on multiple levels. First, I never made any sort of statement about trash compactors. You have me confused with that bat that's flying around in your belfry.
Second, don't preach to me about kids and parental decisions. You don't know me, you don't know my situation, and you DAMN sure don't connect when you pontificate the way you do. Suggest you just drop the preaching angle - it doesn't work for you.
As for what side of the soup kitchen I've been on, I've always been in the kitchen. Never once in my life have I had to live from charity, and I'm grateful for that. Many are not so fortunate.
Now, I'm quite certain you know what a kitchen is for. Why don't you take some of that bat belfry time you have and put it to good use rather than pontificate and preach about shit you don't have a clue about?

Those Third World airports are what they are. People want to get out and go to America and will do anything to get out. Since you mentioned bodies falling from the airplane into the sea, I wonder if they are seen by other people on ground. Talk about ghoulish.

Well.....taking LAX and JFK as the primary examples, international flights are nearly always scheduled to arrive in the early morning, and in the case of both airports, the winds are nearly always "offshore" during these times.
This means that the aircrafts' approach will be from over the water, and the landing gear is lowered when the pilot turns on "final approach" to the active runway.........in both these cases, the aircraft will be 10 miles (LAX), or 15 miles (JFK) out to sea when the gear comes down, and at an altitude of about 8,000 feet.
Therefore unless you are on a fishing boat or something, there is nothing to see, other than a frozen body hitting the water at terminal velocity from an aircraft that has already passed over you several minutes ago, over a mile up.
I read an article a while back that estimated that likely over 500 people per year attempt this maneuver, and typically due to the effects of winds and tides, only about 10% of the bodies are ever found.
