Former President Bill Clinton gave a statement after his meeting with President Obama about his tax compromise with the Republicans.
However, after his statement, Clinton began to call on and take questions from the press with Obama at his side. Obama promptly after a few moments and said he had to see Michelle, as he was keeping her "waiting."

The depressing truth: Given the alternative, it really would be great news.
I can’t do justice to what you’re about to see. The spectacle of the president bugging out of his own press conference to go to a Christmas party is weird enough, but having Clinton back at the White House podium fielding questions on the hottest domestic issue of the day shoots past deja vu and lands firmly in “am I hallucinating?†territory. (The good news: It turned Twitter into an hour-long snark free-for-all, with Michael Goldfarb taking first prize.) I get that The One’s trying to leverage BJ’s popularity to pressure Democratic fencesitters on the tax deal. What I don’t get is why he’d leave him alone to address reporters, suggesting either (a) that Obama doesn’t respect a former president — who’s doing him a favor — enough to change his schedule to accommodate him or (b) Obama’s confidence in his own ability to influence the caucus is now so low that he figures the tax deal will stand a better chance if he just gets out of the spotlight entirely

Obama Ditches Tax Cut Presser After Bill Clinton Takes Control
Former President Bill Clinton gave a statement after his meeting with President Obama about his tax compromise with the Republicans.


However, after his statement, Clinton began to call on and take questions from the press with Obama at his side. Obama leaves promptly after a few moments and said he had to see Michelle, as he was keeping her "waiting."

My husband was telling me about this. Then I found this thread and video right after.
Obama is... just, wow. How could you just get up and leave a press conference like that?
"My wife is waiting and if I stay for five more minutes, she will rip my head off."
If I were Bill, I would have said, "Pussssahhhhh-whipped."

I saw a couple of clips of this press conference. Surreal is the word I'd use to describe it. He did bail on Bill and he looked weak (even for him) by doing so. Clinton looked and sounded like a frail little old man.

Well I have to hand it to Obama.
He truly has made history.
I don't think any of his predecessors have turned over the White House briefing room to a former President to explain an administration policy.

To add he was having a full out revolt of his party in the House and Senate.
Sanders, Brown, and Landrieu represent 3 of the groups of the democratic party.
Sanders is an old fashioned liberal, Brown a labor guy from a mid-western state, and Landrieu a southern blue dog.
It would be the equivalent of
DeMint, McCain, and Snowe filibustering a Bush policy.
This stunt was the only way he could capture the news cycle.

WASHINGTON DC - Ending weeks of speculation and rumors, President-Elect Barack Obama today named Bill Clinton to join his incoming administration as President of the United States, where he will head the federal government's executive branch.
"I am pleased that Bill Clinton has agreed to come out of retirement to head up this crucial post in my administration," said Obama. "He brings a lifetime of previous executive experience as Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, and has worked closely with most of the members of my Cabinet."
Clinton said he was "excited and honored" by the appointment, and would work "day and night" to defeat all the key policy objectives proposed by Mr. Obama during the campaign.
"I am gratified that the President-Elect has entrusted me with this important responsibility," said Clinton. "I'm looking forward to getting back behind, and under, the Oval Office desk again. As I have told the President-Elect, I pledge to do whatever I can to serve his historic administration by making sure that none of that bullshit he talked about during the campaign will ever see the light of day. Americans can rest assured that he will be safely confined to the East Wing, as far away as possible from any potentially dangerous office equipment or nuclear buttons."
The long anticipated naming of Clinton to head Obama's Oval Office team comes after a week that saw Obama appoint dozens of Clinton associates to his transition team including John Podesta, Rahm Emanuel, Eric Holder, Larry Summers, and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Hundreds of other Clinton Administration holdovers are rumored to be in line for remaining appointments, including Bill Richardson, Janet Reno, Webb Hubbell, Chelsea Clinton, zombie Vince Foster, and zombie Socks the cat.
"Let's face it, it's obvious I'm in way over my head here," explained Obama. "Anyone paying attention knows I am a disaster waiting to happen, and who can blame them? I mean, just look at the stock market. That's why I think it's in the best interest of the country that I hand over the reins to people who, whatever their ethical shortcomings, at least have a faint clue about what they're doing. Damn, I actually find myself missing Billy Goat Clinton. At least he possessed the political instincts of a master, who went along with the Republican dominated Congress and got shit done. Some good, some bad, but honestly, compared to this Affirmative Action Bozo we got now, he was good.

I'm sure in Lord Zero's own inimitable way, he was acknowledging Slick Willie's superior political skills and downplaying his own weak skills by just going ahead and bowing out of the "conversation", knowing full well that Slick Willie would get the job done.
Zero's insanely stupid comment about keeping the First Wookie waiting was just that - stupid - and in no way indicated any loss of confidence in SW's ability to handle the presser in a way that would be beneficial. He was actually being honest with the press in an effort to find a way to graciously bow out.
