The list of American innovations that have changed life on Earth is practically endless, but President Obama is trying to inspire America's next technological wave by referring back to a 50-year-old achievement by a defunct nation -- Sputnik.

At times I wonder if TOTUS just does not know any better. It is a wonderful thing Mao with this bunch. So I am sure Sputnik is a huge achievement to them.

Well......bad analogy or not, I was in HS when Sputnik was launched.......it inspired me to enter engineering school as an undergrad, and go on to do graduate work (a lot of it). I wanted to be a part of making the country the technological leader in the world, along with a lot of other kids my age.
That single event created a lot of momentum in science and technology, which we seem to have lost interest in as a nation.......last time I looked, we were "importing" more engineers than we are training.
I'll throw rocks at Obama for a lot of things that he comes up with, but I can't really do it for this......

With him if it was this alone I would have no problem.. it is the sum of all he is about that bothers me. Why didn't he pick something American?
