VERNON — A Windsor woman says she was told to remove or cover up her traditional Muslim head scarf during a visit to the Ron-A-Roll indoor skating rink this week.
Marisol Rodriguez-Colon and her sister-in-law were planning to attend a niece's birthday party at Ron-A-Roll on Sunday. But once inside, Rodriguez-Colon said, they were stopped and told they would have to remove their head scarves because of a policy prohibiting headwear. The Ron-A-Roll employee, who identified herself as a manager, Rodriguez-Colon said, offered the women two options —either take off their scarves or wear a helmet over them. Rodriguez-Colon said she believes the policy is discriminatory.
"We couldn't enter the facility because we had our scarves on," said Rodriguez-Colon, who has worn the scarf, or hijab, for 16 years.
:hammer: Then do not go to the Skating Rink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

no, it is not discriminatory. You were given a choice. Take off the head rag or wear a helmet over it. You are too stupid to realize that they were giving you an option to still wear your head rag but you are spring loaded to the victim position and want to prove a point.
btw, nice last name, but you didn't have to have a name that refers to a body part to let us know you are an asshole. Your actions prove that for us.
-
Whatever........... Crying discrimination. They are crying wolf aren't they. ::) :whatever:
-
Either take the costume off or go somewhere else. It's that easy.
Reminds me of the mooselim that worked at Abercrombe and Fitch but was "subjected to loud music and provocative posters". She sued the company because of it.
-
Many places have these bans on head coverings as way of controlling gangs. Muslims are the largest terrorist gang in the world.

:fuelfire: Devils advocate here.
No shirt,, No shoes, no service.
Jackets, shirts with collars, ties required to dine here.
One must order in English to get service.
Dress code must be followed in order for kids to attend their Proms. Chaperons will be at the door to measure the length of the girls skirts and the amount of bosom showed.
No shorts or Shirts allowed in the pool.----No infants in diapers allowed in the pool.
One in the past was not allowed to fly if a woman's clothing offended others. Skirt too short, print on Shirt that offends someone.
No jewelery of religious nature allowed in school but Muslim kids can wear scarves and hats. No bandannas for non Muslim kids.
No bagged home lunches from kids that have a BLT or ham sandwitch.
All hats and guns must be checked at the door. No spurs allowed on hard wood floors. Horses must be tied up at the rail before entering.
This woman is in America, she may have even been born here, she should know that a business can dictate darn near anything if a customer arrives. Safety and health rules are more important then religious, lifestyle or tradition a customer follows.
When a business has rule's, no hats or scarves but does offer the option for their customers to wear an alternative clothing supplied by the management--then WTF.
Darn. I am retired now with time on my hands, I believe I will take my Holliday money and head up state to one of the stores that cater to Muslim woman and buy a couple of set ups, scarves and dresses.
Next year I will don this clothing and spent hours a day traveling from place to place until I find a business that I can complain about due to my dress.
Lets see, in 12 month I should be able to find 4 places to sue, their insurance will consider me a nuance suit so say $15,000 buy out from each.----$60,000 a year for my embarrassment and loss of rights for my clothing--not bad.
Signs, signs, everywhere signs --do this, do not do that, can't you read the signs????

I didn't know roller rinks still existed in America.

I think there's a couple here.

My Hubby was a competitive skater, Trophies galore about the house---When he was in his 20 ies. :-)
I am a bit surprised that a Muslim woman would want to go to a rink where woman wore those skirts so sort one could see their panties on a spin.
We still have skating rinks and has anyone heard of bowling Candle pin.?

No.

No.
It has been a while since I bowled with Candle Pin----
Best I remember is the balls weigh less then 2 1/2 to 3 pounds are solid.
One has 3 trys to knock over pins set up the same way as in big ball bowling.
New England has hundreds of alleys for this sport and the games are often televised on a Saturdays on local TV.
Most everything is the same as the big balls except the scores will in this sport be lower. The pins are smaller then the duck pins used in big ball bowling.
HELP, any one out there can explain this better to Evil then I can??????

No, because it sounds like bowling for people who fail at bowling with the original two tries.
I was on a bowling league from 6-18 yrs old. I don't really need someone to explain bowling to me. lol

I thought roller skates were out, let alone roller rinks.

Evil, you were using big balls with holes in them correct.??
This is a whole different game still using the same rules as the big boy balls.
The difference between ice skating and roller skating----Perhaps--.
This is still bowling, same alleys and pin setters. I did not want anyone to explain to you about big ball bowling only the Candel Pin that you said you did not know about.
I am sorry I was not clearer in my answer to you, you said you had never heard about Candle pin Bowling and I tried to explain it to you and even asked if anyone could give you a better answer then I.
In no way did I wish to cast aspersions on the big ball bowlers--and I beg your forgiveness for your taking offence at my poorly worded responce to you.

Thor, just gave you high 5 for bringing back memories.
Son home from college in grandparents drive way washing their car and radio playing full blast.
This song came on and the elderly neighbors were looking out their windows.
Grandfather a knuckle dragging Bosen mate came out of the house to have his say, then the words of that song finally got through to him and he and grandson laughed their butts off.
It is no wonder that man became the Hero of the family, darn I miss him.------Thank you.

There are a couple of rinks in Omaha. The policy is the same here as in the OP. You either keep your head uncovered or wear a saftey helmet. It applies to everyone so trying to sue based on discrimnination will get them no where.
-
What I'm trying to figure out is why the policy to begin with? What's the problem with hats or head coverings on a rink? Something that may fly off the head and screw somebody's skating up? Safety concern?

Yeah, I'd imagine if your hat or whatever else you're wearing falls off, the skater(s) behind you could hit it and get seriously injured.... which is just a huge lawsuit on the skating rink. Why risk it?

The one in question is the next town over from me. I suddenly feel the need to support local businesses.

We have a similar issue like this going on where I work at Disneyland with a muslim cast member who worked at the park for 2 years then suddenly decided she HAS to hear her head rag at all times on the job. It is strongly suspected that her "crisis " is concocted by the hotel workers union who have been battling Disney for years and is using her as a pawn to stick it to the company. Disney has offered her several options, but she refused them all and is pressing a lawsuit. Fortunately Disney has dug in their heels and is not backing down on their adherence to the "Disney look" for all cast members.

Good for Disney. More companies need to start standing up to this sort of nonsense.

There's one about 7 miles south of me. Never been there.

I pass what used to be a skating rink on the way to work that I grew up going to. There's a business there now, but the building still looks the same.
Checking Google Maps, there's at least three within 20 minutes of here.

I wonder if skating rinks these days still use the classic roller skates of have roller blades taken over.
I haven't been to a skating rink in well over 20 years.

That's the one that has been in the news, isn't it? She works in public view, and Disney has offered to allow her to wear her head covering, but she would be out of public view.

Yup. The throwbacks keep pushing and pushing.
