The coyote to the right was caught on video running loose in the middle of Chicago at 3:00 am on Monday morning. The police didn’t seem to know what it was doing there, but Brad Block, a supervisor for the Chicago Commission on Animal Care and Control told Chicago Breaking News that the coyote is let loose in the city to monitor the rodent population:
The animal has the run of the Loop to help deal with rats and mice. He said no one has called today to complain. “He’s not a threat…. He’s not going to pick up your children,†Block said. “His job is to deal with all of the nuisance problems, like mice, rats and rabbits.â€
Block told Chicago Breaking News that the animal is outfitted with a GPS collar to track its whereabouts while it hunts mice, rats, and any other small tasty animals. Treehugger though, believes that these coyotes are actually part of the Urban Coyote Ecology and Management project, run out of Cook County:
As far as a coyote being released on purpose to eat up rodents… well, that’s probably more a tactic to keep city residents calm about their furry neighbors. Instead, the animals-as-pest-control is likely more a happy side effect of letting the coyotes do their thing to find out more about them.

You may not know this but I have been a long time proponent to use the garment industry to use rat skin or hide.
Rats have a hide that is water proof and stronger then the other hides we use in garments.
\
Take the city's over run with rats, put a $.50 cent bounty on the rats turned in to the city. People with a rat problem will find a way to catch the vermin and make money doing it.
The city then sells the hides to the Military or garment industry and it becomes a win-win to rid the rats from the city's and produce strong hide for clothing.
Put a bounty on rats and and use the hide for strong weather proof material. The meat from the rats will go into pet food or hog feed.
If I were to go to say NYC and offer a street gang a bounty on Rats, within a week I would have 3-4 if not more Dumpsters filled with them.
What about the teeth and bones, great fertilizer for crops.
So for say 10 years this goes on, all big city's have the hunt for the rats. Then some one in Government will place them on the endangered species list.
What is the problem with rats gone from our citys----easy , less disease---not good for the hospitals that see 30 rat bites a month on baby's, less injudicious diseases to hire more doctors to combat and need government help.
Then Pita steps in and we have a mess on our hands.

You know something, Vesta? I think you're on to something there. We should definitely see some progress toward fewer rat bites on babies, and just THINK of the rat stoles that can be made up and sold for a premium!
The mind boggles!!!!!!eleventy!!!!!

Hunt them my ass....just pickup the waste around town and raise them in a pen...it'll be easier than catching them .....and that's what will happen if you pay a price for them.

One of the unintended consequences of this is that cats will start to disappear. Coyotes love cats.
-
They should let some loose in my old neighborhood for a few days. Stray cats everywhere. You could hear them gather around the dumpsters at night.

Can we send them to DC there are a few rats in the White House LOL
