*Sigh* -- It's gonna be a looooooooong Thanksgiving holiday
And I ain't talking about how many days MG Jr. has off school.
My Beck-obsessed fundie-Catholic aunt is hosting Thanksgiving dinner, as usual. She LOVES to "talk" politics (read: parrot whatever has aired on Faux Nooz TV and radio), which of course makes my blood boil.
Got a "sneak preview" today when she dropped by my mom's--commented that she sold all her General Motors stock (she used to work at GMAC) because "it's not General Motors anymore--it's GOVERNMENT Motors!"
Oh hee yuck hee yuck. How I love right-wing jokes. :puke:
Sigh. A VERY long Thanksgiving. x(

9. My Mom hosts every year. Years ago, she banned politics at the table.
The elder relatives are all hard core RW and those of my generation are hard core liberals.
Banned not because of arguments, but because the liberals' arguments toasted the RWingers point by point.
She didn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable after a few years of having their points of view driven over, then backed up and driven over again.
LOL!
Dunno if that approach will work for you though. Its all in the timing and we lucked out.
Yes...I'm sure THAT'S the reason... :whatever: In reality, I'm sure a lefty in the family cried buckets of tears, and threatened to never come back. That would be my guess as to why it was banned at the dinner table. :rotf:

Only one time in all of the Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners I have had with the family has politics ever come up. It was from an uncle from one of the inlaws. He blurts out "as an Independent" how Bush will go down as the worst president ever. I asked what about Carter and his triple double and the whole midwifing islamic terrorism and asked who was the last republican he had voted for. That was the end of the political discussion.

Her aunt isn't necessarily alone on selling GM, a lot of fairly smart people seem to have taken the point of view that GM might have peaked for awhile with the IPO.

I don't have to worry about it. I don't associate with liberals, much less break bread with them.
