Conservative: A person who may or may not have money in his or pocket...

But is usually too emotionally and intellectually broke to afford any empathy or compassion for someone unlike themselves.

It is because I have compassion that I think people are better off controlling their own lives rather than being at the mercy of some stranger in a state or federal office.
Conservatives believe in real charity, where we reach into our own pockets to help folks not, saying we support some tax funded program to help people.

Liberal: One who cares what is in a conservative's pocket only because he wants to "pick" it.

I see Lamond is displaying his entitlement obsession.

The op can be boiled down to one word. "GIMME"

Yeah, no kidding, MrsSmith.

better off controlling their own lives
Heard on the radio news this morning that if you are on food stamps, you can't buy sugared drinks with it.  Regardless whether that's a good thing or not, it goes to show you how, when you rely on the government, you've got their boot on your neck.  This never ends in happiness.  Witness Bobolink, who thinks she should have a furnished mansion all to herself, with pocket money to boot, paid for by the rest of us.  Since it's not going to happen, she's reduced to her car (as the tale goes, of course).  Take money from the government, put a ball & chain on your ankle.

Why is this such an attractive proposition for so many people?

Some people prefer the security of the plantation even if it means giving up their freedom.  DU is a perfect example of that attitude.

I have no problem giving a hand out to someone in worse financial shape than I am.  I've done it with family members several times.

What I DO resent...is what the Liberals want and that is forced donations.

There's a BIG difference between willfully giving and forcibly having money taken from you and given to others.

Libtards never manage to grasp the difference between the two.

I have no problem having empathy and compassion for people like me. It's the DUmmies I have contempt for. I don't want anyone's hands in my pockets unless I've invited them.

security of the plantation
but, ya know, it's not even secure.  There's a guy in our town, who subsists on $600 welfare per month.  Could you do that?  He walks or bikes to town, and is completely helpless in bad weather.  The state tells him where to live, and they are the worst shitholes, packed with crazy and disgusting people, and extremely mean landlords.  If he says "I just can't live there anymore" the state says "Tough.  It is what it is, and you can't go anywhere else."  They provide him with one pair of shoes, and they have decreed that they be steel-toed boots, whether or not they are comfortable or appropriate.

That is life on the plantation.

But, that is why the DUmmies are trying to get the government to steal more from them.   I just realized something.  Maybe the reason the DUmmies hate the cops and usually side with criminals is that they look up to the criminals as someone who is trying to get "their fair share" from the man without working.

The town drunk used to get a government check and in a few days he was broke, hungary and no place to stay. They put a woman in charge of his check and affairs. One winter she bought him a new pair of shoes, that afternoon he was bare foot and drunk. She'd get him a room at the local flea bag hotel and pay a month in advance, he'd "sublet" his room and get drunk. She'd buy him food but if she didn't sit and watch him eat it, he'd sell it and get drunk. Bleeding heart liberal that she was, she finally gave up on him and said there was no hope for him.

Great point.
