School bans children from putting their hands up - "alienates" less intelligent children
School bans children from putting their hands up
A school is to ban pupils from putting up their hands when they know an answer in class – because it "alienates" less intelligent children.
Children at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, will now have to wait to be asked questions in class, rather than putting themselves forward.
The radical new plans come after teachers at the school worked alongside teaching guru Professor Dylan Wiliam – who claims that asking children to put their hands up alienates other pupils.
Teachers will now be picking pupils at random to answer questions – to stop brighter and more outgoing children from answering too many questions.

This thread is HUGH!

When I was in public school and even in my Navy schools, teachers/ instructors often picked on the student that wasn't paying attention, regardless of who threw up their hands first..... I was one that appeared never to be paying attention, but I usually knew the answer.

I love it when they bitch and moan when liberalism is being followed.
This whole self esteem being the most important thing is all dreamed up by liberals.

16. So we punish the kids who do work hard in school
so those who don't can feel better about themselves? :eyes:
dg
Why not? We punish those who work hard and make money by taxing them at higher rates.

109. Making students repeat grades is evil. Updated at 5:07 PM
So a student gets passing grades in all subjects except Geography. You make him repeat the entire grade including all the subjects he DID pass. Come the end of next year, he gets a passing grade in Geography but not in Science, so he gets held back AGAIN, even though he passed all subjects at least once.
Yeah. Excellent to "build character". Not.
I think schools should have a college-like system from very early on.
How is that evil? It teaches the kids a lesson. If you don't perform then you don't move up.
That's how the real world works.
Plus if the kid fails one class they could always go to summer school pass the subject and move on.

52. You're so right
God forbid that kids become intelligent adults who might question the B.S. being fed to them.
Like us teabaggers who don't buy Barry's bullshit?

Most of my teachers did the same thing. It seems to me that calling on the kids that aren't raising their hands will be singled out and shown to not know the answer in some cases. That will embarrass them more than not raising their hands.

60. Enough about law school, already
It's the reason we have so many utterly incompetent lawyers. Every lawyer I've ever known is a Republican, and since facts have a liberal bias, that tells you all you need to know about lawyers.

Just when you think you heard it all!. WOW! Who's the genius behind all this? ::) :whatever:
Ever since we had a stupid president come into office, it seems like stupid policies have been put into place. :argh:

Uhh, this is in England. They've had stupid policies since before The Won.

This reminds me of a story The Onion had the other week about a pair of progressive parents that refused to tell their child what sex it was.

Don't bet against some "edjumucater" trying to do something similar here.

I know. As I was writing my response, I was thinking that. How sad.
A red diaper doper baby and all his red diaper doper baby friends. He can run a mean "community organization" though. :lmao: :loser:

Very true. Their anxiety will go through the roof also.
The whole process of raising their hands teaches children to participate in instruction -- the whole interactive learning experience. Some college professors base grades on class participation.
In this instance the "guru" is wrong.

Facts have a liberal bias? What? You know, this looks like a very cleverly crafted mole post. DUmb enough to poke fun at them, but not anything that would raise a red flag.

88. I have a high IQ and a few anxiety disorders.
Generally, I have not been the one raising my hand in class
I love people who brag about their "IQ"! :rotf: They usually have very low self esteem and not really all that bright besides. Sort of like guys bragging about the size of their dicks. Hey dummie? When measuring IQs and dicks it isn't the size but how you use it! :-)
