coming healthcare nightmare scenario
When I returned to school for a 2nd degree -- this one in Med Lab Tech -- employment was 100% at the back end, with a worldwide shortage. The Dept. Head told us she'd been contacted by Mass General and asked to increase the MLT slots (15) because they liked the lab techs from the program so much.
That was then. This is now. I'm about to enter my final semester, clinical training, in January. A couple weeks ago, the program director -- unaware that the microphone was ON -- accidentally revealed that hospitals that would take 4 students in training in the past are only reluctantly taking 2. Those that took 2 may take 1. Many hospitals have apparently not yet responded -- 6 weeks to go, 2 of them holiday weeks!
The nearest hospital to me has cancelled *all* open reqs and laid off 3 (all managers!). They also reported that their charity cases doubled last year.
The 2nd nearest hospital has had ongoing layoffs for a couple years now, including nurses and other delivery staff. They've agreed to take 1. There are 2 of us in the area -- we both have 4.0s, but he has a really, really poor tardy and attendance record. I feel bad -- it's not 100% his fault, but it is what it is. As long as we pass this semester, they *have* to give us clinical spots and the fallback is the state hospital (not too far either, but very unlikely to lead to employment if a huge portion of us end up there).
Also, a new hospital in the area got approved last week BUT it's a replacement, not addition. And it's going to have FEWER BEDS because they plan on SHORTENING STAYS...again.
Be prepared to be sent home groggy, in pain, half-alive, and needed a lot of help and outpatient followup. That is the future for those who have insurance, anyway...

New thread sure to die the lonely death of denial.

Hah! I'm going to be your boss bitch!
Seriously though. I spend every Monday in the OR for clinicals. To put what I've learned of doctor's, nurse's and other health care provider's of Obamacare in one statement: I haven't met a Democrat yet.

It's all Bush's fault.

It's all Bush's fault.
We should start using the latest version of this:

Around MY area, medical jobs are BOOMING. A good 75% of all of the locally available jobs are in the medical profession. Everything from CNAs and on up.

Good point... what state is this pinhead in?

Is that because so many are leaving the field because of ObamaCare? :-)
-
In my field it is more difficult to take students for the clinical/fieldwork portion of their study, per new Medicare guidelines (which become something of a "gold standard" for the industry). No fault of the economy. More the result of companies using unpaid students to boost their departments productivity. Were they given an appropriate amount of supervision while providing services? Opinions vary.
But as far as the job market, it's still very good.

No, it's been that way since before I moved home in 2008. We have very large elderly population, a regional medical center w/ trauma treatment and another major hospital in Sherman. Not to mention a small VA clinic and a MULTITUDE of Doctor's offices.

She lives in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I would hazard a guess that the reason hospitals are cutting staff there is "Romney Care" Reimbursements to providers goes down, well, a provider is not in business to loose money nor to break even. The goal is to make money. Seeing that personal expenses are the greatest cost in a business...... Work harder, maybe send out more labs rather than buying the machines to run them on site, same with the staff.
This is just the beginning. My boss has made a business decision concerning giving away care and writing off co-pays if someone cannot afford it. In the pass, he would eat the cost of this care because he could make up the cost from well paying insurance plans. Now, more and more insurance plans are electing to use the same reimbursement schedule that medicare and medicaid uses.
This is all because of Obama Care. The people that need the help the most are the ones that are going to get hurt the most. It is just going to get much worse.

^^Doc Savage is right. She's in MA. Good ole' Romneycare is finally digging it's claws into the health care system and the state. I can back up the claims that other hospitals are laying off people, as my brother's girlfriend works at one of the hospitals and says so.
Good ole' HELLCARE will be good for all and it will lower costs, you'll be able to keep your doctor and,.....and, we'll be able to insure about 30 million more people. :orly: ::)

When you seriously look at any problem that the USA faces it can be traced back to too many lawyers.

Pretty much. And the Democratic Party is loaded to the gills with them.

That's just the symptom, if there weren't too many people wanting lawyers to get them free rides, the lawyers would go away. The real roots of the problem are the free-ride/entitlement mentality, the idea that somebody else has to pay for anyone's bad outcomes, and the concept that the Government is responsible to protect everybody from everything.
-
Well DAT, I disagree in that the lawyers foster that idea in people.
I think it was 1998 when the graduating crop of lawyers equaled the entire number of practicing lawyers. These peole had to do something and politics and government was where many went.

There are 'way too many lawyers, but if it wasn't lawyers filling up those jobs it'd be our vast surplus of useless sheepskin-holding MAs/MSs in sociology, public administration, poly sci, and MBAs. Due to the student loan and grant system, we have a populace that is vastly overeducated (On paper) for their functions in society.
Actually I have been thinking that one of the things this easy money initially accomplished was to drive unemployment numbers lower than they would normally be because all this paid-on-the-back-end education takes people out of the workforce for between four and seven years, even if it ultimately doesn't accomplish anything objectively productive in the long run. The corollary of this is that it's a bit of an employment-stat Ponzi scheme, and if at some point the easy financial aid got turned off (Or more people had realistically targeted educational goals) unemployment would surge.

No health care bill would be better than the one Reid and Pelosi gave us. Just got my insurance bill for November. Rates up again. Also got my house insurance bill, 35% increase over last year. My property taxes also are higher next year, 700 dollars MORE.
Sure glad we don't have any inflation,
That taxes won't go up a single dime if I make less than $250,000. (I can't even think that big)
The tax policy and healthcare reform is hurting me. That's a fact. I won't blame Obama on the taxes, but sure as heck will on the skyrocketing cost of my health insurance. They gotta get more money to pay for the people that have pre-existing conditions. I'm the piggy bank they are getting the money from.
After he clearly says, "rates up again" this dimbulb says this:

6. If everything really falls apart next summer, I may just transfer to loans to my credit cards and let *them* take the hit when I go down
Followed by that stupid little icon of the smiley laughing and kicking his legs. Intent to defraud, charming.

Deplorable as that little plan might be morally, the post is a great illustration of the Law of Unintended Consequences, or more colloquially the the difficulty of pushing on a string. Make student loans bankruptcy-proof to protect the banks (Actually the government, which otherwise would have to cough up as a surety on the loans)? Fine, the student figures out he can sign up for 6 or 8 credit cards, use balance transfer checks to move all the loan debt to the CCs, THEN go bankrupt. Deplorable, yes...but highly adaptive.

Hey shithead?! If you do that, you know you ruin your credit, right? You stupid DUmmies. So economically challenged. :lmao: :rotf:
Just like a free loader. But,...but,...your boy lord zero said all will be good. Rates won't go up. This bill will create jobs. You'll be able to keep your doctor. Taxes will not go up. Your lord zero failed on all fronts and continues to fail.
