LGBT Civil Rights: I Will Now Be a "Single Issue" Activist.
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 05:27 PM by David Zephyr
I have spent over 40 years of my life working in Democratic candidates' campaigns. Forty years. I have been a delegate to two national conventions, eight state conventions, phone banked, stuffed envelopes, canvassed perhaps as much as 1,000 miles of neighborhoods, donated close to $100,000 of my own money, sacrificed my free time, lost friends who were Republicans, alienated much of my conservative family and more.
All those years, this gay man (once a mere Democratic teen in the 1960's), I have fought for union rights, civil rights for non-whites, for women's rights and their reproductive rights, for farm workers, for migrants,.... blah blah blah the whole laundry list ad infinitum and ad nauseum....... And all of that time, I have worked for the Civil Rights of my LGBT sisters and brothers.
But after 40 years, I am qualified to say this: there has been very little "reciprocal altruism" by the Left blah blah blah
it comes down to this: I no longer have "patience" with those on the Left and those in power within the Democratic Party who have always found it convenient to push LGBT civil rights to the back of the agenda. I'm beyond just being nauseated with cowardly admonitions to "have patience" and "these things take time" and "there are other pressing issues" and blah, blah, blah. (authors.)
now, after 40 years, there is no more important or urgent matter to me than the god-damned basic civil rights that every American freely enjoys, that is with the "single" exception of one class of people. Guess who? The LGBT community. We are the sole group of Americans who are denied our civil rights in housing, in employment, to serve openly in the Armed Forces when we bleed and die for this nation. We are not only denied marriage rights, we don't even have federal protections of our "unions".
So, now I will proudly become that marginalized person on the political field who is dismissively called a "single issue" person. Yeah. That will be me. blah blah blah....we make people squirm, we make them feel uncomfortable. blah blah blah
snip
David Zephyr is a Single Issue person. And proudly so.
Edited for brevity, believe it or not.

23. If every Democrat actively and persistently insisted upon full citizenship
(actually full humanity) for LGBTQI people, how would that diminish the fight for other progressive issues?
Oh brother...

I'm, frankly, surprised anyone could read this OP without being brought to tears.
Oh brother, again. :whatever:
Most of the thread is a big gay love-in hug-fest circle-jerk, but if you want the link, here it is:

David Hotwind should vote for republicans. They have done just as much, if not more, for Teh Gheys as the dems have.

Guess what fool, you have sold your personal soul for the crusade of an identity that you hoped would reward you as being special.
That was your first mistake.
Thinking liberals would be your saviour was your second...all you are to them is a useful idiot.
If you had just lived your life as best as you can and made the most of things you would have been happier for it but I doubt that will ever make sense to you because you want everything given to you.
Enjoy your self bought misery.

HI5 for that title. LOL!

Life?!? You call that a LIFE???

That's kinda what happens when your entire political party is made up of a loose collection of weirdo splinter groups.......each of which firmly believe that their particular agenda should be at the top of the legislative priority list.
Most of your constituents eventually become disappointed and disillusioned........the sight of DUmmie angst (particularly teh gheys) makes my day.....
"I love it when a plan comes together........"

I flushed my life down the toilet for the Democrats,
Well, if your life will fit in a toilet, then it wasn't much of a life to begin with.......and a $100,000.00....sheesh are you stupid.

I find it hard to believe that passing gay marriage and getting gays sent to the front lines in combat would really make everything better.
If those two issues went his way tomorrow, I don't think he would notice an improvement in his personal lifestyle.
This goes way beyond just being B-tchy. (and fulfilling yet another stereotype.)
He's wanting some sort of pandering reward...and I can't figure what that is.
He doesn't really mention what he wants in his B-tch fest. I imagine its a lot.
Finally, I call BS on his claim to have given $100K. Its just another justification for the whole "You Owe Me" premise.

Dear David Windbag,
Sorry you feel marginalized because the American people don't think your fudgepacking self deserves to marry whatever rentboy you're doing this week. Frankly, the difference between the gays and the Civil Rights Movement is that people cannot choose their skin color, but you choose to pervert nature and have sexual intercourse with people of the same gender. Sorry to burst your bubble.
No love,
VM
